September
2001

Message from the President:

Part of my job is to insure compliance with the Constitution, By-Laws, and Tournament Rules. I assure you its not always a pleasure. In keeping therewith,
I offer the following important reminder. Quote:
Article II. Membership; Section 4. Dues; Paragraph a.

"DUES ARE DUE AND PAYABLE AT THE OCTOBER MEETING FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR.
ANY MEMBER WHO HAS NOT PAID HIS DUES BY THE NOVEMBER MEETING WILL BE REMOVED FROM MEMBERSHIP AND MUST RE-APPLY AND FISH A GUEST TOURNAMENT."

Be advised that there will be no letters or telephone calls on this matter nor will any excuses be acceptable. So please don't fall into this trap, help each other to remember. For those who may have forgot, your annual dues are $40.00............
Until the next meeting, Keep those lines tight, see you on the water....
.

September Tournament:

The September tournament was held at Lake Eufaula. Saturday started at safe daylight and there was a slight chill in the air. The day was absolutely perfect as far as weather. The lows were in the 60's and the highs were in the 80's. Water temperature averaged about 80 degrees. At weigh-in Brian Metcalf came in with four fish to pin the scales to 6.55 lbs followed by Neil Springstead with 5.20 lbs and Jere Jaillite with 5.15 lbs. Big Fish was snagged by Dave Dyess at 3.45 lbs. Later that evening the Hawg Hunters enjoyed a fish fry held at one of the cabins. Thanks to Lee Brannon for bringing the fish. The fish fry was sponsored by Wally's Special Fund. Sunday arrived and the Hawg Hunters were itching to return to the water with all new baits tied on (for some). Another day with perfect weather (remember the last time at Eufaula on Sunday).

The scales were opened and things began to change. Paul Sullivan leaped to the front of the line and took over first place with a largemouth that weighed 5.30 lbs and a total weight of 13.15 lbs, Jere Jaillite and Mack Cramer tied for second place with 10.60 lbs. Fun was had by all and Eufaula goes in the record books.

Proposed
Constitution and By-Law Changes

The Constitution and By-Law changes that were submitted are as follows:
Please read the proposed changes carefully, because a few changes have been made to what was read at the meeting. These changes were made by the members that submitted the proposed changes.

1) Change the first sentence of Tournament Rule 5 to read as follows:

Partners will be chosen by random draw conducted by the Tournament Director.

As Tournament Rule 5 reads now:

Partners will be chosen by the Tournament Director
. It is each man's responsibility to notify both the Tournament Director and his partner if he is unable to participate, giving as much advance notice as possible. Each boat will contain two contestants. However, a club member will be allowed to fish alone if pairing of two club members would not allow a potential member to fish his guest tournament, or an odd number of participants exists.

2) Add Tournament Rule 24 to read as follows:

If your intentions were to go as a boater, and were drawn as a non-boater, and fished the tournament as a non-boater; for the next tournament, if your intentions are to go as a boater, then your name will be put in a boater box along with all other members that are in the same situation. All members that were drawn as boaters for the last tournament, whether they took there boat or not, if there intentions are to go as a boater again, then there names will go into a second boater box. All members that choose to go as a non-boater will go into a non-boater box. After all members have declared theirintentions, the Tournament Director will randomly choose a boater from the first boater box and a non-boater from the non- boater box. If there isn't enough non-boaters in the non-boater box the Tournament Director will randomly pick a name out of the second boater box until all boaters out of the first box are accounted for. After all boaters from the first box are accounted for, then and only then will the Tournament Director draw the rest of the names out of the second boater box, with the first name drawn being the boater and the second name drawn being the non-boater
.

As Rule reads now:

No Tournament Rule 24 exist.

3) Change Tournament Rule 17 to read as follows:

All tournaments shall be live release. Fish shall be placed in plastic bags with adequate water and carried to the weigh master. The weigh master will have plastic bags available. The tournament Director will remove fish from the bags, weigh them and return them to the bags. Fish that show any sign of life will be considered live. Members may keep a lunker for mounting.

As Tournament Rule 17 reads now:

All tournaments shall be live release. Fish shall be placed in plastic bags provided by the weigh master. The weigh master will remove fish from the bags, weigh them and return them to the bags. Fish that show any sign of life will be considered live. Members may keep a lunker for mounting.

4) Change Fish-Off Tournament Rule 4 to read as follows:

There will be two payouts in the October tournament. The regular club tournament and a "Fishoff" pay out which will include all moneys earmarked from regular monthly tournaments and a draw down of the club treasury as follows: After the September tournament the E- Board will meet to review the club treasury. They will set aside enough money from the general fund to pay all existing expenses, and anticipated expenses for the remainder of the year to include banquet and awards for year-end. To those anticipated expenses they will add a $150.00 budget allowance to maintain in the club treasury. All remaining general funds will then be added to the "Fishoff pot".

As Tournament Rule 4 reads now:

There will be two pay outs in the October tournament. The regular club tournament and a "Fishoff" pay out which will include all moneys earmarked from regular monthly tournaments and a draw down of the club treasury as follows: After the September tournament the E-Board will meet to review the club treasury. They will set aside enough money to pay all existing expenses, and anticipated expenses for the remainder of the year to include banquet and awards for year end. To those anticipated expenses they will add a $150.00 budget allowance to maintain in the club treasury. All remaining moneys will then be added to the "fishoff pot".

5) Increase the monthly tournament fee by $5.00:

Three ($3.00) will go into a kitty to cover awards for the "Top 3" fisherman at the end of the year. This is in addition to the normal awards that are presented to the "Top 6" fisherman each year. This is to be a cash award and broken down the same as the monthly tournament payback, ie, 50% --- 1st place, 30% --- 2nd place, and 20% --- 3rd place. The other $2.00 is to be added to the monthly tournament payback and will give our monthly payout a 40% boost.

6) Change Constitution Article IV Section 1 a. to read as follows:

The Constitution and By-Laws, Tournament Rules and Fish-Off may be amended at the regular October meeting by a majority vote of those members present, provided notice of the proposed amendments have been presented to the membership via the September newsletter prior to the October vote.

As Constitution Article IV Section 1 a. reads now:

ARTICLE. IV
Section 1. Amending the Constitution and by-laws.

a. The Constitution and By-laws, Tournament Rules and Fish-off may be amended at the regular October meeting by a 2/3 vote of those members present, provided notice of the proposed amendments have been presented to the membership via the September newsletter prior to the October vote.
