Message From The President:
Two more tournaments left this year and WOW! what a tight race we have for Angler of the Year. The way I score it, any of the top four could win it. Good luck.
I believe you can officially chalk up the score from the August tourney as Tensaw "1" Hawg Hunters "0".
Tough, tough, tough conditions. Congrats to those who were able to bring a fish to the scales. Special congrats to Jeff "Sleepy" Weaver on his first win since
..well, I don't believe the club records go back far enough to tell you when. To quote Jeff, "It's about time."
Don't forget to get your proposed Constitution, Tournament, and Fish-off changes to Marc well before the September meeting. That way he can make copies and pass them out to those present at the meeting.
Also, push a copy to Jim Sr., so he can put them on the website for those that miss the meeting. Remember, clarification only at the October meeting, so if you want your voice heard on proposed changes,
be at the September meeting.
We are also taking nominations for
E-board members in September.
If you are not asked but would like to serve, call one of the E-board members. Several people have already stepped forward and volunteered to serve. Thank you to all that have. Even if not elected, it is good to know that you are willing to help out.
I'm still working the Awards Banquet. Thanks for the input at the August meeting. Whatever decision is made will not please everyone, so my apologies in advance if the date and time selected do not fit into your schedule. The only solid decision that I've made is to have the banquet before Thanksgiving.
Hopefully, things will start cooling off for the September tournament, but if not, continue to properly hydrate before and during the tourney. Now,
LET'S GO FISH!
Kevin
Minutes of the Meeting:
The August Pensacola Hawg Hunters meeting was brought to order at 7:00 P.M. on August 15, 2007 at Founaris Brothers Restaurant. President Kevin Simmons presided. There were 19 members present, including 2 lifetime members Pete Potter and Jim May. There were also 2 guests present, Shane Miller and Jim Bailey Jr..
Old Buisness:
Dave Dyess discussed difficulty finding an insurance agency willing to write an umbrella policy for the club because we are not a business and need to have a business license. Ron has been trying to get with his agency to see if they could write a policy for us but they have not responded so seems that they are not interested. Ron's wife did research becoming a non-profit organization the cost would be approximately $300 one time fee plus an annual $80 filing fee. There was also some discussion regarding B.A.S.S. website having information regarding insurance policies. Kevin will research and contact Charlie Cetti for assistance. The new boat S.O.P. for insurance requirements has been created and can be read on Jim Bailey Sr.'s website. Mack announced that there are 5 insurance policies that will expire soon. During the boat draw each boater will be verified to have their insurance "deck" page turned in with the required minimum insurance coverage. E.W. Coombs was put in the hospital Thursday, August 9th to have a defibrillator installed. Went home on Friday and seems to be doing okay. Mack reported there was a little change with E.W.'s smile.
New Buisness:
NEXT MONTH WILL BE A LONG MEETING, there will be discussion of changes to the constitution. Any proposals should be emailed to the secretary with cc to Jim Bailey Sr. Reminder, the October meeting will be to vote only on the changes with discussion restricted to clarification. A motion was passed to start next month's meeting at 6:30.
Pete Potter discussed briefly his attendance at a new club in Clanton, Al. He reported is was a refreshing change because there were not
"too many rules."
Next meeting nominations should be made for next year's E-board and voting will take place in October.
Reminder also that the November and December meeting and tournaments are 1 week earlier than normal due to the holidays in those months. There was some discussion regarding the awards banquet, where and when
more to follow later.
Kevin discussed the wording in the S.O.Ps regarding the wearing the shirt and hat; also the wording regarding the no-shows for tournaments-more to follow later (bottom line, if money is refunded no tournament points will be given). John Buck recommended adding, "Lifetime Members may participate in function such as fish off as long as all normal prerequisites are met."
"Good of the Order"
Dave Dyess bought and donated a new gas grill to the club. Thanks Dave!! Neil Springstead is having a Hawg Hunter only fishing tournament on October 6th. Friday there will be a grill out for dinner and on Saturday during the tournament there will be lunch at the dock. Entry fee is $15.00 each plus $5 for Big fish pot.
Rules will follow Hawg Hunters guidelines but there will be no draw. Pick your own partner.
The Alabama fishing license is going up to $49. The Alabama state troopers will be out in force from Aug 13th to Sept 3rd, adding additional 200 troopers to the highways and marinas. The new Bass Pro Shop in Prattville, Al is open.
