Message From The President:

Another month has come and gone. Man, the time does fly. Only four months left in this fishing year.
A lot of action items need to be accomplished in that time. Let's see, there is the hunt for and election of new E-board members, the discussion and voting on proposals for changes to the club constitution and bylaws, planning for the annual awards banquet, and getting the records ready for the next E-board. Whew!
Speaking of new E-board members;
if you are interested in any position, let one of the current E-board members know.
Glad to hear that some of the members that have recently been under the weather are feeling better. Good to see Dewayne fishing again.
We had a good turn out for our June meeting and tournament.
Sorry the fish didn't bite any better. Let's keep those numbers up.
For those that didn't make the meeting and haven't heard, Pete "Sweetie Petie" Potter was awarded Lifetime Membership into the Hawg Hunters for his years of membership and dedicated service. Congratulations Pete. Now for your monthly safety note. Summer is smack dab on top of us. HOT temperatures and pop-up thunderstorms. If you get caught in one of those afternoon lightening storms, put your rod down and get to some sort of shelter as quickly as possible. If there is no shelter around, get low in the boat or find some land and hunker down. Bottom-line;
try not to be the tallest thing around.

Kevin

Minutes of the Meeting:

The June Pensacola Hawg Hunters meeting was brought to order at 7:00 P.M. on June 20, 2007 at Founaris Brothers Restaurant. President Kevin Simmons presided.
There were 21 members present and 1 guest, Bill Myrick.

Old Buisness:

Kevin referred to a previous vote of the club to add lifetime members, the names were identified and will be added. Kevin also attempted to contact members that have been absent to see how they are doing.

New Buisness:

Jere Jaillite nominated Pete Potter as a Lifetime Member, motion was seconded by Jim Bailey Sr. (and numerous others). Vote was made by secret ballot IAW Article II section 5 of the By - Laws and passed with unanimous approval.

Hawg Hunter Life Member

The Pensacola Hawg Hunters awarded Life Membership status to Pete Potter this month as Pete will be moving soon to go fish with the boyz up on Lay Lake.

Boy!!...Bet that was a tough decision wasn't it Pete...

Just remember...You always have a home to come back to.

Congratulations and Best Wishes
The Pensacola Hawg Hunters

CONGRATULATIONS - "Old Pete"
A reminder was issued regarding eligibility to vote at the October meeting on Constitutional changes. The requirement is to fish at least 6 tournaments not counting last October. There was much discussion about possible action the club should take to protect members from potential liability issues; such as incorporating or becoming an L.L.C., Charlie Cetti agreed to research for best course of action. Also more discussion on the minimum amount of liability insurance boat owners should carry as well as an umbrella policy. Ron Faribanks state that the "big box" insurance companies do not cover fishing tournaments.
Further discussion concerning the club keeping copy of boat owner's insurance policy as an effort of accountability to ensure an adequate amount of coverage is maintained. Mack discussed the requirement to make a rule change for such a requirement. Frank Kelly offered to contact the Insurance commission to get definitive information on the insurance issue.
"Good of the Order"
Dave Dyess donated some items to be auctioned off as a fund raiser for the special fund.
"Old Pete" performed splendidly
as the auctioneer.
Mack announced his next fishing trip to Mexico and is looking for 1 more person to go along; 7 days ~ $1500 plus airplane ticket.
Brian Metcalf mentioned the weekly "fruit jar" tournament at Tensaw every Thursday night 5 - 8 pm;
$10 per person. Dan Nash mentioned there is a similar tournament at Fish River on Tuesday nights.

June Tournament:

What a pleasant way to spend the day, a warm comfortable day sitting under the shade of a big oak tree with a gentle breeze blowing in off the water while sipping on a cool drink with your arm around a ….Whoa Whoa Whoa!! That was what I was wishing for during the entire day out fishing during this tournament because it was just plain HOT!
How hot was it you ask? Well, I'll tell you…while I was dedicatedly pitching my worm into the most strategic locations that I could see (in between wiping the sweat out of my eyes that was running like it was coming out of a faucet from under the Hottest Hat I ever wore) I heard this quiet little sizzling sound coming from the front of the boat. I looked around to see what was going on and their was my, always prepared for anything, partner with not one but two "Golden Rules" laying side by side up on the front fishing deck. On top of them was the source of the sizzling sound. I asked Tony what he was doing and he side he liked ham & cheese sandwiches but really liked them grilled. So he was using those "Golden Rules" that had been laying in the sun as a grill and cooking his lunch. Yeah, that might be a little stretch but I KNOW there was a water faucet under my hat somewhere. There really was some fishing going on even though it wasn't the most comfortable day we've spent on the water. Mostly it was a day of survival. Trying to stay cool and find the fish willing to leave the cool water for the pre-heated water of a live well…hmm, that sounds pretty hard to pass up.

1st Place
Pete Potter

Pete Potter managed to convince 3 of 'em to go for a ride back to the boat ramp, they were stocky enough to win him first place.

3rd Place
Kevin Simmons

There was only one other member able to land 3 keepers, Kevin Simmons; his weren't as big as Pete's but still good enough for 3rd Place.

2nd Place
Lee Brannon

Mr. Big Fish Lee Brannon used his big fish and another one to hold onto
2nd place.

4th Place
Jim Bailey Sr.

The final money winner was
Mr. Jim Bailey Sr. with a pair of nice keepers. It was sure good to see so many members out fishing.
This was our biggest turn out
(9 boats) since last November
(8 boats). Good job to everyone on such a hot day to stay safe and for keeping all those fish (15) alive.
Next month we are in Escambia River and if temperatures remain consistent as is probable it will be another hot one so bring lots of water and if you like your lunch grilled bring along an extra "Golden Rule".
