Message From The President:

Spring time always brings excitement to bass fishermen. The expectation of warmer days, and big bass create a fever that most of us cannot resist.
But don't let the quest for the big ones over take common sense especially when it comes to maintenance of your equipment and tackle. Make yourself a check list of items about your boat that you should do before you start the fishing season…like check the grease in the wheel bearings on the trailer, replace oil in the foot on your motor. Do you need new spark plugs,
what shape are your batteries in…
the list can be quite large.
However, failure to address these and other maintenance needs can quickly spoil your trip, not to mention the possible safety issues that may be involved. Also be sure that your reels are clean and well oiled, check the eyes and tips on your rods for any signs of roughness, and replace if even the slightest rough spot is found…
Your line never breaks until you get the big hooked up!! Check the hooks on all your lures to make sure they are sharp and make sure that the blades on your spinner baits are clean and the spinner bearing free and working well.
The list could go on and on but you get the idea….so make that list now and then use it before each trip. You will have a more enjoyable time on the water.

February Tournament:

Daybreak on Tensaw....How wonderful. 31 degrees, 5:30 AM and dark.
The Team of 17 Hawg Hunter's were slipping their boats off the trailers into the water in and amongst the boaters of the The Fisher's of Men Contestants. What a crowd!! The parking lot was filling up fast as everyone from both tournaments were anxious to get a place to park. For most of the morning there was very little wind to contend with. That changed later that day though as the cool wind picked up and the sun began to hide behind the wispy clouds. It got really cold if you were trying to fish in the wind. At weigh in 13 of the 17 anglers had fish to bring to the scales. Only 4 anglers got to be listed in the ALSO FISHED category.
In total 34 keeper fish were brought to the scales for a total weight of 46.63 lbs.

1st Place
Dave Dyess

Dave Dyess took the 15 point spot with 5 very nice fish weighing 8.17 lbs.
This gives Dave a 1st place win for two month's in a row. I Think we need to take his hooks away from him before he hurts somebody....hehe

2nd Place
Bob Hanson

Bob Hanson took the 14 point spot with 5 very nice fish weighing 6.69 lbs. Bob fished with Dave and evidently they found the fish. Bob is another one we need to watch. He took 2nd place last month as well. Maybe we need to do the same thing to Bob that I mentioned about Dave.
I can see it now...
Instead of calling him BIG FISH BOB in the future we can start calling him
NO HOOKS BOB!!

3rd Place
Ron Bridges

Third place was claimed by one of our newest club member Ron Bridges with 3 fish and 4.71 lbs. Ron also got lunker fish weighing 2.41 lbs.

4th Place
Lee Brannon

Lee Brannon came in Just in the money with 4 fish weighing 4.68 lbs.
Next month the Hawg Hunters travel to Lake Seminole. We'll be launching at State Park Landing near Chattachoochee. This tournament will take place on March 21 and 22, 2009.

Florida State Record

~New Florida State Record~

Jim Bailey Jr missed out on most of Super Bowl Sunday while trying to pull his new Florida State Record out of the woods.

Jim bagged this trophy 6 point while hunting on the old Champion property just north of Cantonment.

The rack measured 110.8 inches on the Boone and Crockett typical antler scale with a inside tine spread of over 21 inches making it the largest 6 point ever taken in Florida.
