Message From The President:

Bass and grass ….hmmm….those two words just seem to go together.
I really like to fish hydrilla and pepper grass in the summer. There just isn't much if any of it in our immediate area. Recently I had a chance to make 2 trips to Millers Ferry and found pepper grass making a comeback in the lower portions of the lake. Needless to say I also found bass there. Also last week I was fishing on the Escambia delta and found eel grass growing well. (also found fish there too!) I mention this just to say it seems that it is finally starting to return to some of our local waters and for me it is a welcome sight.
I will be going to the Mobile delta soon and hope to maybe find some fresh growth there also. The storms a few years back really wrecked our deltas and marsh areas and to see some of the grass starting to return is great. For me targeting grass beds in the early morning has always been productive.
If you find some give them a try. Try small buzzbaits or frogs around them, if they don't produce try a small spinner bait or a worm around the edges.

June Tournament:

For our June tournament the Hawg Hunter's headed to one of the best bodys of water for fishing in the southeast. By 10:00 am Saturday morning the temperature was well up into the 80's and higher temps into the upper 90's by mid day. The heat index at the end of the day was 109 and everybody was looking for a little patch of shade.
If you were man enough to stand the heat everyone was able to catch fish although not all were able to catch keeper size fish. At the weigh in all but five had fish to weigh in but only one person had a limit. Most had only one, two or three fish.

1st Place
Jeff Weaver

Jeff brought in 4 nice fish for 7.88 lbs and also caught the lunker of the day for 3.12 lbs.

2nd Place
Buddy Yates

Buddy Yates took second place for two months in a row as he brought in the only limit for this tournament. His bag of fish weighed in at 5.92 pounds.

3rd Place
Frank Kelly

Frank Kelly brought in 3 fish to take the third place spot with 4.83

4th Place
Dan Nash

Dan Nash was able to bring in 4 fish to take fourth place with 3.56 pounds.
Next month we will be fishing another one dayer on the Alabama river out of Holley Creek .
