TOURNAMENT REPORT

Tensaw River July 24, 2010
Cliff's Landing

Frank Kelly here...John Buck asked me to write this month's article for him.

With the storm looming in the Gulf, we all arrived at Cliff's Landing expecting showers and winds,
although
we knew it shouldn't be too bad as the storm itself was falling apart.
It turned out to be a pretty good weather day...humid but not very hot.
The fishing however wasn't hot at all, in fact, 8 anglers went without
a fish.
We haven't seen that high a number of "also fished" in quite some time.

At blast off time, some went north while several went south. It turned out that fish were caught in both areas.

My partner, Butch Gunnels, and I were pretty much held near the landing as I forgot to add extra oil into my reservoir.
That turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I probably would have run all over the place if I had enough oil to go searching.
We stayed in Dennis and Red the entire day. We caught several DINKS, and I hauled in what I thought was going to be a limb from the bottom that turned out to be a huge ANGRY snapper turtle. Butch estimated it's weight at between 40 and 50 pounds. I cut the line. Butch caught the first keeper on a worm at about 10:00AM. I caught my first, 2nd and 3rd keeper in different areas of Red. Butch ended our day with another keeper at1:00PM. Four or our 5 keepers came on Junebug Finesse worms and one on a crank bait.

At the weigh in, frustration seemed to be the key element. Not only did 8 go without a fish, 7 only had 1 fish and NO ONE caught a limit. Mack Cramer beat me out of the money by .20. He had 4 keepers for 3.73.
Third went to Tony Boyett with 3 fish at 4.28; 2nd went to Ron Bridges with his 4 keepers that went 4.91.
Our champ of the day was Jeff Weaver.....were tired of you Jeff....you're not taking enough naps. Jeff had 4 fish for 5.37 pounds.
Lee Brannon's only keeper was just enough for Big fish honors.....1.97 pounds.

John will be back next month.....Tensaw at Upper Bryant's Landing.....

Stay Hydrated.......Frank
