TOURNAMENT REPORT

Escambia River June 19, 2010
Smith's Landing

The Hawg Hunters fished the Escambia River this month. We launched out of Smith's landing in the delta. We had mostly clear skies and a falling tide for about half of the day. The water was stained pretty heavy but there were a few places that were clearer early in some creeks. Surface temps ranged from 84 -89 throughout the day. The air temps started out about 85 and rose to 96
and it was so very hot!!

Kevin Simmons and I paired up for this tournament and since he and I have only fished together one time in over 15 years, I was glad to fish with him. We both wanted to fish the same basic place and that made our plan easy to work with. We started out in Goggleeye Lake and when the tide started turning we moved to the main river (White's River). We caught fish throughout the day but most were small. We probably caught 30 bass between the two of us and Kevin also caught maybe 15-20 goggleeyes. Kevin caught most of his on a jig, (green pumpkin) and I caught mine on june bug baby brush hog and greenpumpkin/blue baby brush hog. We caught fish early in the lake and later when the sun got up on the White River.

At the scales 15 guys had fish to show and 7 had nothing. We were fishing the Escambia River!!! Mack Cramer took the win with a nice limit weighing 9.57 lbs and also the lunker @ 3.24 lbs. He caught them all on a buzz bait throughout the day. Good job Mack!! In 2nd place was Buddy Yates with a limit @ 6.26 lbs. John Buck took 3rd with a limit @ 5.47 and Butch Gunnels took 4th with 3 fish @ 3.68 lbs. Fish were caught on a variety of lures but most guys said the had their best luck on soft plastics.

Overall we did a great job of keeping the fish alive and well in the heat so hats off to all you guys for your efforts to keep the fish well. Frank did a good job of keeping the weigh in process going steady so to minimize the time for fish in weigh-in bags
and quicker release.

Remember guys, in the summer to really drink lots of fluids and prepare well for the heat while fishing. Also our next tournament ends at 2 PM and will be held at Cliff's Landing on the Tensaw River. Hope to see you all at the meeting and at the tournament.

Until next time…Keep your hooks sharp!!!

John
