TOURNAMENT REPORT

Fish River
November 14, 2009
Hwy 98 Bridge

Well, back in the saddle again....I'm tuning up my writing skills while John Buck is out of town as he did not fish the
Fish River tournament.....consider that fact a blessing John. Here goes.

For the first tournament of the 2010 season, last year's e-board selected Fish River. All you hear year round is people griping about Fish River but everyone seems to have a good time in spite of the carping.Because everyone lives so far apart, we decided to meet up in a couple of different places but all managed to arrive at the ramp at about the same time. Jeff took his usual DAYTIME NAP in the morning and overslept but got there in time to start with the rest of us. The temperature was about 50 and the fog was quite thick at blast off time so we found ourselves in a holding pattern for a few extra minutes.

I drew Glenn Kittrell for a partner, someone I have never fished with before. Most of the Hawg Hunter's stayed close to the ramp because of the fog and Glenn and I were no different. We fished a little creek not far from the ramp and stayed there for about 45 minutes. With not even a nibble there, we ran north and started fishing Cowpen and north. We only saw one DINK landed so we ran south and pretty much stayed on the river the entire day. We threw absolutely everything; worms, crank baits, spinners, etc. Glenn,
your always welcome in my boat.

At about 11:30, I landed a keeper on a crank bait which proved to be the only keeper I got that day. I landed 6 or 7 dinks but no other keepers. Glenn struggled the entire day until he landed a keeper at 3:35...proving that old adage...NEVER give up. Starting to CARP ourselves, we ran back to the landing to set up for the weigh-in.The new tub seemed to be a BIG hit. Thanks to all for helping me pay for it. Jeff instituted a new weigh in procedure and thanks to him and Glenn, everything went smoothly.

Two people found limits, Lee and Mack, with Lee taking first place AND big fish for the day with a total of 6.94 and the big fish of 3.23. (NOTE: Lee complained out loud that he was fishing USED water all day......not a bad result for the USED water.) Mack had 6.77....(beaten by just a whisker) for second, Kevin Simmons had 2.42 for third and (BELIEVE IT OR NOT) Jim senior had 2.37 for a STRONG showing and fourth place.

As a reminder to EVERYONE, please prep your boat for launch in a preparation area and not sitting on the ramp. This will alleviate any BOTTLENECKS and allow others to launch their boats while you are getting yours ready for the water. See ya'll in December.

Frank!!
