Minutes of
the Meeting:
The
August meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. August 21, 2013
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 20 members’
present.
Old Business:
The
reading of the Minutes from last month was waived. The Treasurer's report was
given and accepted. The Booray Pot rolled over once again last month with 23
members participating. See Bill Myrick for specific details. Buddy Yates
reported that his son is continuing to improve since his accident 6 months
ago. Ken Repine is also improving and getting around more maybe we’ll see him
at the next meeting. Let’s keep them in our thoughts and prayers as the days
go by. We are also happy to see Dan Nash up and walking about. He
had some serious medical trouble since the last meeting and it's good to see
him still with us. Dan we understand why you took this tournament off
and look forward to fishing with you again on the next tournament.
Our host
at Founaris Brothers says we are doing better so continue to enjoy their fine
food while we conduct our club business.
Dave
Bock reported that it cost us a little bit more to host the web site than we
had voted for but we got a better deal in the long run by locking in a lower
hosting rate for the next 10 years.
The name of the site is www.PensacolaHawgHunters.com
and will officially be up and running for the start of the 2014 season
November.
A
motion was called and passed to pay the extra money from club money. Dave is currently is progress of moving
all the stats from the Hook1.com web site to be uploaded to our new
site. If there is anything you want to
see on the new site…contact Dave B.
New Business:
50/50
Drawing was held…Half to Bryan McCarthy and the other half to the Special
Fund.
The
end of the year banquet questionnaire told us the majority of the club wanted
to go back to Cock of the Walk so that’s where the banquet will be on Friday
6th December 2013. Make plans
to attend and remember your spouses are invited too!
Jeff
Weaver gave a presentation on backup live well pumps. You never know when you are going to have
problems on the water and you don’t want to wind up with dead fish. We are doing real good this year with only
5 fish out of 526 caught to date that didn’t survive their ordeal.
E-board
position nominations are being accepted for consideration. If you want to get more involved and make a
commitment to the rest of us….
just submit your nomination.
A
nomination for Lifetime Membership was received by the E-board and
read to the club to be voted on by secret ballot at the next club
meeting. Click the following link to
read the nomination.
Proposals
for the constitution and rules received by the E-board prior to the August meeting
will be discussed during the September meeting and voted on during the
October meeting as per the Constitution and SOP. We have currently have 20 members eligible
to vote. Dan Nash and Jim Bailey need just one more tournament while Kevin Simmons needs to fish the last 2
tournaments to become eligible. Click
on the following link to read the proposed changes.
Proposed Rule Changes:
Safety Corner:
We just finished our last hot summer month tournament but remember to watch
the weather anytime you are out on the water. Also it would be a good idea to check you
trailer tires before our next out of town tournament. Just because the boat is new to
you….doesn’t necessarily mean everything is in good working condition. A pound of prevention is better than an
ounce of cure.
I wonder what boat
Mack will bring next….Seems he’s been changing boats as much as we change
rods during a tournament.
Also a
good idea to remember where the no-wake zones are so you don’t find yourself
in trouble with the law. As a boater
you are responsible for the damage your wake may cause.

August
Tournament:
The August Tournament was held on Tensaw River out of Hubbard’s
Landing. We had 20 members fishing out of 10 boats for the one day
tournament.
The weatherman was good to us as he held off the rain until way
after weigh-in.
On to the Top Four of the Tournament!
1st Place
Jeff Weaver
Jeff has been absent from the winners circle this year after
winning AOY last year but he showed us he still knows how to win one with
style. His 5 fish limit topped over
9.32 pounds a full pound ahead of the rest of the pack. Rumor had it he was culling by 8:00am. This is Jeff’s 5th time in the money this
season. He is currently in 2nd
place for the AOY standings and continues to close the gap on Jere with a
total of 170.5 points. A whopping 27
points ahead of 3rd place.
Great Job Jeff!
2nd Place
Dave Dyess
Second place went to Dave Dyess with a nice 5 fish limit of 8.00
pounds even. Jumping him up 5 places
in the AOY standings. Way to go
Dave. Something to note is that Dave
fished out of the back of Jeff Weaver’s boat so once again whoever gets to
fish with Jeff ended up in the money.
Dave said he was culling by 9:00am too.
Sounds like them two guys had a fantastic day.
Great Job Dave!
3rd Place
Dave Bock
Dave also brought in a limit of nice fish totaling 7.29
pounds. I’ll tell you now what I
caught them on because you probably won’t let me tell my story on meeting
night. I caught one on a fluke…Buddy
Yates style and the rest on a 3/32 oz. Shaky head rigged with a 6” June-bug
shaky head worm. I filled out my
limit on the last cast….so never give up!
This is Dave’s third time in the money this season.
Great Job Dave!
4th Place
Jere Jaillite
Rounding out the top 4 was Jere with a limit of fish weighing in
at 6.91 pounds. Mr. Consistent! Jere once again has finished higher than 6th
place maintaining his lead in the AOY race. Only one person has the ability to catch
him with the rest of the club being 40 or more points behind him. It’s possible he could sew it up on the
next tournament. Can he do it? Come to the next tournament to find out
first hand!
Great Job Jere!
Notes:
From The Tournament Director
The July tournament results were given. Great job to the top 4 last month.
Don has chosen not to reenlist as thetournament director next year so if you are interested get your nomination in.
The Caravan was scheduled to leave the old Food World parking lot on Pine
Forest Road at 4:00am Saturday morning.
The Meeting was adjourned at 7:47 p.m.

Tournament
Results:
We had a total of 20 members fishing the one day tournament
with 17 out of the 20 catching fish. As a Club we caught 56 fish for a better than last
month 2.8 fish per person average.
There were 5 limits caught by the top 5 fishermen. Jim Bailey was 5th with his
limit weighing 6.8 pounds. Total
weight for the tournament was 78.27 pounds for a 1.39 pound per fish average.
On the yearly standings we had 7 people advance their position
while 9 declined. Biggest movers up
were Dave and Dave both advancing 5 places. 5 fish for 5 places…..Remember
you have to fish to advance in the standings.
With the season winding down and only one tournament to go before our
annual fish-off tournament at Apalachicola our top 3 are still catching fish. Jere, Jeff and Lee have caught fish in each
of the 10 tournaments fished….Good job guys.
Honorable mention goes to John-8/8, Frank 7/7, Dan 5/5 and Kevin 4/4
for also being consistent in the tournaments they’ve attended. Big fish for the August tournament went
to John Buck with a 2.51 summertime beauty.
The September tournament is a two day tournament with the first
day being on Lake Mitchell and the second day fishing Lay Lake. Saturday night we have a fish fry planned
so make plans to attend.
