Minutes of the Meeting:

The March meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. March 20, 2013
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 27 members present along with 2 guests.  Bob Jaillite, Jere’s brother visiting from out of town and our Guest Speaker for the meeting Tony Bigot a Semi-Pro angler out of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  Tony gave us a great presentation on products he uses to catch fish.  Be sure to check out his sponsors to get your fish catching tools.

Old Business:

Reading of the Minutes from the February meeting were waived.

The Treasurer's report was given and accepted.  The Booray report was given knowing it would probably be won at Lake Seminole.  See Bill Myrick for specific details.

“Fishin with a Mission” Tournament is April 6th….see Jeff Weaver for further info about participating in this worthy cause.

New Business:

50/50 Drawing was held…
Half to John Buck and the other half to the Special Fund.

Volunteers were selected for the Cookout of Hamburgers and Bratwurst to take place Saturday Night at Lake Seminole.

The Assistant Tournament Director reminded us we needed a Georgia Fishing License fishing in certain parts of Lake Seminole.

Safety Corner

Vehicle Maintenance.  This month we turn our attention to Dave Bock.  (Yep I’m telling on myself)  Two days before the meeting I did some preventive maintenance on my truck like flushing out and changing the radiator fluid.   Been quite some time since the last change…well things went good….until the drive over to the lake on Thursday.  The truck started billowing White smoke out of the exhaust where, being a diesel it should have been black. White smoke usually means one thing….water boiling in the exhaust.  Seems like the flushing really flushed things out including debris which probably kept it from leaking radiator fluid into the intake manifold in the first place.  Looks like it got a leak from the EGR Value Cooler which according to multiple web page sources is a common fault with the diesel engines.   Well to make a long story shorter…I made some phone calls and was rescued by one of our very own club member Dave Dyess who graciously donated the use of his truck for the weekend so my partner and I wouldn’t be left on the bank during the tournament.  This also enabled me to get my boat towed home while leaving my truck at a dealership in Marianna.  The main reason I joined this club when I returned to the Pensacola area is because I knew if I had trouble anyone of you would give the shirt off your back to help.  That’s the great thing about this club….Thanks again Dave Dyess!

February tournament results were given out. Great job to the top 4.

The Caravan was scheduled to leave Wal-Mart on Hwy 29 at 4:00am Friday morning.

The Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

March Tournament:

The March Tournament was held on Lake Seminole at Seminole Lodge.  We had 18 members fishing out of 9 boats for the two day tournament.  Saturday’s launch was uneventful with everyone having high hopes of catching a Booray fish.  We saw rain showers pass through during the day and at weigh in time, it was raining quite a bit.  However, everyone managed to catch fish.   In fact we had 62 fish caught weighing a total of 141.15 pounds on Saturday.  We had a total of 4 limits come up to the scales along with 1 fish over the 6 pound mark, 4 fish over the 5 pound mark and another 4 fish over the 4 pound mark.

Saturday Big Fish Results:

6.41 lbs – Don Jahnke

5.81 lbs – Tony Boyett

5.56 lbs – Mack Cramer

5.51 lbs – Bryan McCarthy

5.33 lbs – Jere Jaillite

4.74 lbs – Dan Nash

4.72 lbs – Lee Brannon

4.59 lbs – Roger Helm

4.5 lbs – Dave Dyess

Saturday’s top 6:

1st - Jere Jaillite -5 fish 13.8lbs

2nd - Tony Boyett – 5 fish 12.75lbs

3rd - Bryan McCarthy – 4 fish 11.57 lbs

4th - Mack Cramer – 4 fish 10.78lbs

5th – Don Jahnke – 4 fish 10.56 lbs

6th – Carlito Silvania – 5 fish 10.51 lbs

You had to catch 10 pounds of fish to make it into the top six.   Saturday night we had our cookout of Hamburgers and Bratwurst which were outstanding.  Great job to the cooks….Ron Bridges and Carlito Silvania….in fact I believe we even held a vote and nominated them to be permanent cooks!  Also great job to the cleanup crew who quickly dismantled everything and put it away before the rain washed it all away.

Sunday morning we woke up to heavy thunder and lightning right over the motel in which the Tournament director assisted by the E-board make the call to suspended the launch until more favorable and especially more Safe conditions prevailed.  We then launched safely at 7:30 am.  Well after the front went through the blue bird skies returned and changed the fishing from the day before.   Sundays weigh in found only 22 fish brought up to the scales by just 10 of 18 members.  This time only 1 fish made it over the 5 pound mark.

Sundays Big Fish was caught my Mack Cramer stretching the scales at 5.35 pounds.  Good job Mack!

Sunday’s Top Six:

1st – Jeff Weaver 5 fish 10.52 lbs

2nd – Mack Cramer 1 fish 5.35 lbs

3rd – Lee Brannon 2 fish 4.89 lbs

4th – Carlito Silvania 3 fish 4.82 lbs

5th – John Buck 3 fish 4.76 lbs

6th – Bryan McCarthy 3 fish 4.57 lbs

Jeff had the only limit on Sunday.   Great job Jeff!

On to the Top Four of the Tournament!

1st Place
Bryan McCarthy
Bryan with a Y caught a two day total of 7 fish topping the scales at 16.14 pounds including a Booray fish candidate at 5.51 pounds.   Bryan’s total weight was only .01 pound heavier than the second place finisher.   Talk about every ounce counts!   Seems our active duty Navy guys have been putting a whipping on us…last month Jeremy won, this month Bryan!  This win jumps Bryan up two notches to 5th place in the year end standings.

 Congratulations Bryan!

2nd Place
Mack Cramer
Mack’s two day total of 5 fish tipped the scales just .01 pound behind 1st place for a total weight of 16.13 pounds.  Mack caught a Booray candidate both days of the tournament.  A nice 5.56 pounder on Saturday and a nice 5.35 pounder on Sunday which won him Big Fish honors for Sunday.  Great job Mack!

Congratulations on your Second place finish keeping you on top with 6 points ahead of the pack in the year end fishermen of the year standings.

Congratulations Mack!!!

3rd Place
Carlito Silvania
Third place went to Carlito with a two day total of 8 fish weighing in at 15.33 pounds.  Carlito caught a limit on Saturday then finished up with 3 more on Sunday.  Only one other person – Jere – shared in the 8 fish category as Carlito.  They sure showed us at the weigh in.  Carlito jumped 4 places to 9th in the year end standings.  Good job!

Congratulations Carlito!

4th Place
Jeff Weaver
Rounding out the top 4 was Jeff with his two day total of 8 fish weighing in at 15.05 pounds.  Jeff was the only one with a limit on Sunday when conditions got rough for the rest of us.   Good job Jeff!   Okay that now makes Jeff in the money this year 4 out of 5 times.  Gonna have to check with the IRS on this guy….tax season is just around the corner.   This moves Jeff up to 3rd place for the yearly standings with 87 points only one point behind second and within spitting distance of 1st place.  A solid 10 points in front of 4th place.

Congratulations Jeff!!!

Tournament Results:

We had a total of 18 members and no guests fishing the two day tournament with everyone catching fish on Saturday and only 10 catching fish on Sunday. Big fish honors of the tournament went to Don Jahnke who also captured the Booray money for the largest fish of the tournament over 5 pounds.  His “Hawg” weighed 6.41 pounds which also became the lunker of the year beating out Mack’s Escambia River fish of 6.32 pounds.
Total fish caught was 84 weighing 185.94 pounds for a 2.14 fish per person and 2.21 lb average.
For the year end standings, we had 12 people advance and 15 declines.  Most of the members who dropped in the yearly standings did so because they didn’t come to the tournament.  Remember you can’t advance if you don’t show up for the tournaments. Top advancer was Roger Helm which proves when you come fish with us you get points.   Honorable mention was Carlito and Tony each advancing 4 places on the standings.  Top decliner’s were folks who couldn’t make the tournament.  Unless of course you want to count Jere in this…he was in First place with 5 fish on day one totaling 13.80 pounds then walked up to the scales on Sunday empty handed dropping him from 1st place all the way down to 6th place for the tournament.   Jere becomes this month’s “Hero to Zero” winner!
