Minutes of
the Meeting:
The
May meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. May 15, 2013
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 21 members’
present and 2 guests, Jordan and Justin, daughters of Chris Myers.
Old Business:
Reading
of the Minutes from the April meeting were waived.
The Treasurer's report was given and accepted. The Booray Pot rolled over
last month with 23 members participating.
See Bill Myrick for specific details.
Kudos was given to Dave Dyess and the Cooking/Clean-up crew for a
successful Saturday night dinner of Chicken and all the fix-ins at the April
Tournament.
New Business:
50/50
Drawing was held…Half to Don Jahnke and the other half to the Special Fund.
Dave
Dyess submitted a change proposal to Change our Summer Tournaments to 1:00pm
so we would only have 2 weigh-in times…4pm for Saturdays and 1pm for Sundays
and Summer Tournaments. Currently we
have Summer tournaments weigh-in at 2pm and Sunday tournaments weigh-in at
1pm. E-board has for action and will
make a decision before the June Tournament.
John Schaff an ex club member donated
bunches of plastic worms and maps for the club to raffle off with the
proceeds given to the special fund.
Thanks John…
Buddy
Yates provided good news about his son’s recovery….he’s awake from his coma
and getting better every day. Your
thoughts and prayers have really helped.
Ken Repine
is undergoing treatment for his issues so keep him in your thoughts and
prayers for a speedy recovery as well.
I’m sure he’d welcome communication from the club members.
Safety Corner:
Seems I find myself in the Safety Corner column again this month. Not only was I suffering from the
butt-whipping my partner put on me in the fishing arena but the heat got to
me too. Was feeling mighty poorly come
weigh-in time. Thought it might have
been from my 2 day old sandwich I ate but I think it was the heat that did me
in. I should have been drinking more
water though-out the day. By the time
I realized it I drank quite a bit of water but it actually was too little too
late because all I did was fill my stomach up and it wouldn’t absorb it for
some time. All it did was slosh around
in there. Thanks John Buck for taking
over and doing the driving to get us home while I slowly recovered in the air
conditioning.
We are
approaching the Hot months….time to think about Heat Stress and Heat
Stroke. Drink Plenty of water to stay
hydrated all day long…not just when you feel thirsty. Keep an eye on your partner too and
remember…the quickest way to cool them down…is to jump in the water.
Notes:
From The Tournament Director
Friendly reminder about your boat insurance.
You need to make sure you have up to date boat insurance on file with
the club before you can be drawn out as a boater. 3
members are expiring before the June tournament and need to provide updated
insurance. They are Buddy Yates, Dan
Nash, and Frank Dodge.
The April tournament results were given. Great job to the top 4
last month.
The Caravan was scheduled to leave Wal-Mart on Hwy 29 at 4am Friday morning.
The Meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

May
Tournament:
The
May Tournament was held on Miller’s Ferry at Ellis Landing. We had 16members
fishing out of 8 boats for the one day tournament. Saturday’s launch was very
eventful with a full launch ramp. This time we made plans to get there early
and it paid off as almost all the club was in the water before the local people
fishing a 40 boat tournament showed up.
We even beat the rain as a small shower passed over us before safe
daylight
On to the
Top Four of the Tournament!
1st Place
Jeremy Burkart
Jeremy fishing out of the back of Jeff Weaver’s boat was culling
fish by 8:00am on tournament day. His
5 fish weighed in at 6.73 pounds. Way
to go Jeremy!
That’s makes him the first two time winner this year as he also won
the February tournament at Perdido River.
Something to note is that the Navy Senior Chiefs in the club have been
dominating the top spot. If you count Jeremy’s 2 wins with Bryan
McCarthy’s win in March and Dave Bock’s win in February that makes 4 out of 7
tournaments won by the Senior Chief’s Elite Fishing Team.
Jeremy’s win jumps him up 3 places in the year end standings.
Hooyah Senior Chief!
2nd Place
John Buck
John was also culling fish during the tournament and ended up
with a 5 fish total of 6.58 pounds.
Just .15 pounds behind Jeremy.
Good job John! He too was
fishing out of the back of the boat.
Seems this year you don’t have to be up front to get into the money
spots. This moves John up 1 spot to
tie with Bryan for 4th place in the year end standings.
Congratulations John!!!
3rd Place
Jere Jaillite
Jere was 1 fish short of a limit but good enough to take 3rd
place from us with 4 fish tipping the scales at 5.96 pounds. Jere’s kicker was
a 2.91 pounder. Rumor had it Jere
caught a 4 pound spot on pre-fish day.
Jere has finished in the top six in each of the 7 tournaments he’s
fished this year. His consistency has
paid off because he is now our point’s leader in the year end standings.
Congratulations Jere!!!
4th Place
Thom Labelle
Rounding out the top 4 was Thom with a limit of fish weighing in
at 5.59 pounds. This will jump Thom up 4 places in the
yearly standings. Good Job Thom! Thom has had 2 - 4th place
finishes this year.
Congratulations Thom!!!

Tournament
Results:
We had a total of 16 members and no guests fishing the one day tournament
with everyone catching fish. We caught
49 fish for a 3 fish per person average. Total weight was 64.27 pounds for a 1.31
pound per fish average. Seems this
year the fish got smaller on us as last year we had a 3.5 fish per person
average with a 1.8 pound average per fish.
Last year it took 12 pounds to win the tournament.
Honorable mention goes to Marion Johnson who has gotten the
stink off the skunk by catching and weighing in 2 fish for the tournament
earning him 2 fishing points with his 14th place finish.
Great Job Marion!
Also we had a winner at the Golf Ball Draw! Congrats to Lee for pulling the yellow ball
away from Jeff as they both tried to grab it due to them being tied for 5th
place.
On the yearly standings we had 10 people advance while 8
declined. Biggest mover up was Thom
Labelle. Remember you have to fish to
advance in the standings. Make your plans now for the June tournament.
