Minutes
Of The Meeting:
The
October meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. October16, 2013
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 28 members
present.
Old Business:
The reading of the Minutes from last month was waived. The Treasurer's report
was given and accepted. The Booray Pot rolled over once again last month with
23 members participating. See Bill Myrick for specific details. The
start of the new season means everyone has to pay another $24 due at the
November meeting. If you’re not in the
Booray Pot now's your chance to get in to it.
New participants will
need to pay $38 to enter the pot which will be payable for the biggest fish
over 5 pounds caught in a Hawg Hunter tournament.
Nominations for club positions
were voted on by a unanimous vote.
Jeff Weaver, Buddy Yates and Dave Bock have been extended one year in
their current positions while Don Jahnke and Bill Myrick will step down to be
replaced by Mack Cramer-Tournament Director and Carlito Silvania-Assistant
Tournament Director.
3
cheers for the new E-Board!
2014 Proposed Rule Changes:
So in a nut shell……The rules for 2013 stay intact
for the 2014 season. Be sure to look
them over and become familiar them. If
you would like to make changes to the rules remember according to our
constitution they need to be submitted in writing to the e-board prior to the
August 2014 meeting.
From the
Treasurer:
Reminder if you haven’t paid your dues for the 2014 season you have until
the start of the November meeting to pay your $40. Contact Buddy Yates to participate. Don't be left home missing out on all the
fun.
Reminder:
Jim
Bailey will be retiring from hosting our Web page after making it happen
seamlessly for the past 18 years. Jim
will add a link from Hook1.com to our new
PensacolaHawgHunters.com
starting November 1.
He will remove the old Hawg Hunter fishing site November 15.
New
Business:
50/50 Drawing was held…
Half to Carlito and the other half to the Special Fund.
The
President handed out a Tournament Site Wish list for the 2014 season to be
filled out by the members. The E-board
will meet to compile the sites and decide on the tournament sites which will
be published at the November meeting.
The President held a discussion on boater and
non-boater responsibility during the tournaments. It boils down to after the draw is
conducted, get with your partner and work out all the details of the trip to
include…..who, what, where, when, why and how are you getting there.
As an added note for boaters....
be sure your
equipment is up and operating before the draw takes place so we don’t leave
anybody behind.
If your boat insurance renews….be sure to turn in
the forms to our new Asst. Tournament Director aka Carlito.
Cookout duties were handed out with Dave Dyess
picking up the steaks, John Buck cooking, Jere Jaillite bringing the club
grill, Ron Bridges and Dave Bock cleaning up.
Roger Helm donated a Boat Tackle Organizer to be
raffled off at the meeting which garnered $15 for the special fund. Thanks Roger.
The year End Banquet will be Held December 6th,
Friday Night at the Cock of the Walk on 9 mile road. All the spouses are invited to this
prestigious event. We will be
conducting a head count at the November meeting. If you can’t make the meeting but are going
to attend the banquet, contact the secretary with your intentions.
From Bryan McCarthy & Jeremy Burkart
The October tournament was the last tournament Bryan
and Jeremy would be fishing as the US Navy has something better for them to
do. Bryan is moving to Illinois and
Jeremy is moving to Colorado. (I know
they are sailors and should be rotating to the coasts…but these guys are
recruiters so they are getting America’s sons and daughters to the coast
instead). Here is some parting words they
had to share with us:
You might be a Hawg Hunter if:
If your
club’s E-board studies the farmer’s almanac to ensure that the weekend of
fishing will be either post cold front or pouring rain conditions,
YOU MIGHT
BE A HAWG HUNTER.
If you fish every
tournament with a black or junebug trick worm,
regardless of weather conditions, time of year, current or type of cover,
YOU MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER.
If your club
President brings something to sell at every meeting and spends 10 minutes
explaining it, only later to try to hurry the meeting because it is running
to long,
YOU MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER.
If more the
50% of your club owns and wears solid colored Velcro shoes,
YOU MIGHT BE
A HAWG HUNTER.
If your
clubs average membership age is greater than 55, and people mention making a
rule that no one under the age of 50 should be allowed to join,
YOU
MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER.
If you have
someone in the club who thinks every fish over 17 inches is a 7 pounder,
YOU MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER.
If you club
has an out of town tournament and at 9:30pm everyone is in bed,
YOU
MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER.
If your club
has an out of town tournament and the caravan has to stop at all the rest
stops,
YOU MGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER.
If someone
in your club is late to the morning launch because they lost their false teeth,
YOU MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER.
****AND****
The
number one way to know you are a HAWG HUNTER is....
If you
have been getting beat from the back of your boat by the youngest 2 guys in
the club for the past year, then
YOU MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER!
Bryan and Jeremy....
The
Club wishes you well in your Naval careers and you are always welcome back
when you retire....ie after age 50.
Thanks for your continued service and sacrifice to our Nation. As for fishing.... may a fish bring your bait
back every time you throw it out.

From The Tournament Director:
The
September tournament results were given. Great job to the top 4 last month.
The October draw was conducted for 18 members filling 9 boats.
The
Meeting was adjourned at 8.02 p.m.
Safety Corner:
Well seems we had another blow out of a trailer tire on the way home from
Apalachicola. Get out there and check them tires and hubs.
But that wasn’t the biggest thing that happened over the weekend. Seems we had a boater forget his relative
bearing grease at home and ended up high and dry. Would have been a slammer nomination had it
occurred on tournament day. Seems our
good friend Ron Bridges forgot which side of the red buoy you should be on
when you are headed up river. The
mnemonics are “Red Right Returning”… red-colored buoys are nuns,
which are kept to the right (starboard) side of the boat when returning from
the ocean to port. “Green Going Out”
The complement to "Red right returning,"
indicating that green buoys are left to starboard when you are heading out to
sea. Good thing Ron was only about a
1000 yards from the ramp so we could see him stuck like chuck. Check out the tournament pictures page for
a visual representation of his predicament.
I’m sure Ron would like to thank all of us for helping him getting
unstuck. One thing is for sure…I have
a shorter rope now.
October Tournament:
The October
2 day Tournament was held on Apalachicola River out of Pine Log Road
Landing. We had 18 members fishing
out of 9 boats. Even Roger Helm
brought his boat all the way from Jacksonville.
You
could tell it was Hawg Hunter weekend because it started out as a nice day on
Saturday then someone turned the lake upside down on us as it poured down
rain like cats and dogs on us. Too bad
it wasn’t fish pouring down. Well at
least 4 boats had that happen as they came in with double limits to the
weigh-in. Day one we has 17 out of 18
members catch fish including 8 limits.
Total fish caught were 64 fish weighing in at 81.13 pounds.
Saturday’s Top Six
1st
– Mack Cramer – 5 fish 8.92 lbs.
2nd – Jim Bailey – 5 fish 6.51 lbs.
3rd –Dave Dyess – 5 fish 6.36 lbs.
4th – Buddy Yates – 5 fish 6.32 lbs.
5th – Roger Helm – 5 fish 6.25 lbs.
6th – Jeremy Burkart – 5 fish 6.03
lbs.
Saturday Big Fish Honors
Mack
Cramer - 3.36 lbs.
Like all 2 day tournaments the Hawg Hunters fish Sunday was a completely
different day. The temperature dropped
some and the sky cleared up to give us blue sky conditions. The fishing also
changed as everyone seemed to struggle to catch a fish. Only 3 limits were caught Sunday with 7
members dropping into the 1 fish category along with 2 members getting in the
also fished category.
Sunday’s Top Six
1st – Jeff Weaver - 5 fish 6.07 lbs.
2nd – Mack Cramer – 5 fish 5.15 lbs.
3rd – Roger Helm – 5 fish 4.93 lbs.
4th – Dave Dyess – 4 fish 4.62 lbs.
5th – Jeremy Burkart – 4 fish 4.07 lbs.
6th – Jere Jaillite – 3 fish 3.21 lbs.
Sunday Big Fish Honors
Mack Cramer – 1.42 lbs.
On to the Top Four of the Tournament!
1st Place
Mack Cramer
Mack’s limits of fish
for both days were good enough for him to grab the top spot of the
tournament. He also caught big fish
both days with a beauty on Saturday tipping the scales at 3.36. More than triple the size of all the other
fish caught. His 10 fish weighed 14.07
pounds. Good job Mack…but you know as
this is the fish off we are going to have to call the IRS and report your
earnings for this tournament. You
would of also thought with all that money…he would
of led us to a nicer restaurant than Burger King….like maybe a Hardies or a
What-a-Burger. With the win under
his belt he was able to take over the 3rd place spot from Lee in
the year end standings.
Great Job Mack!
2nd Place
Jeff Weaver
Second place went to
Jeff who also brought in double limits of fish during the 2 day
tournament. His 10 fish weighed in at
11.84 pounds. For the year Jeff was
solid in 2nd place….he couldn’t catch the AOY but nobody could
catch him either. A Second Place
finish fitting for a Season Second Place finish. One thing to note is Jeff with these limits
caught more fish than anyone all year.
A total of 66 fish weighing 88.17 pounds for a 1.33 pound average.
Great Job Jeff!
1st Place
Roger Helm
Roger with his 2 limits
of fish tipped the scales at 11.18 pounds.
Our superstar all the way from Jacksonville showed us how to catch
fish on a tough fishery. In fact
according to Jim he was an excellent guide as Jim Bailey also caught a limit
of fish on Saturday out of the back of his boat. Roger nice to see you again and we look
forward to the next 2 day tournament when we meet again.
Great
Job Roger!
4th Place
Dave Dyess
Rounding out the top 4
once again was Dave Dyess who also had double limits of fish. Last month Dave caught 17 pounds to claim 4th
and this month he only needed 9 fish weighing 10.98 pounds to do
it. Way to go Dave! Dave jumped up 5 spots in the year end
standing to finish the year in 10th place even though he only
fished 8 tournaments and as a non-boater at that. His season total of 39 fish weighing 66.22
pounds averaged 1.69 pounds each.
Not like Canada eh?
Great
Job Dave!

Tournament Results:
The October tournament at Apalachicola had a total of 18 members fishing the 2
day tournament with everyone catching fish one day or the other. The golf ball draw pot grew bigger by $33
as no one drew the yellow ball. Was
it even in the bag?
As a Club we caught 104 fish for a 5.7 fish per person average. (I wish I could have weighed in 5.7 fish as
I only weighed in 2 all weekend. Would
have done just as good with Eagle sightings as I saw two of them magnificent
birds.) We had 8 limits out of 4 boats
on Saturday and only 3 limits caught on Sunday for a total of 11 limits. That’s 8 + 3 = 11 if you can’t do the new
math. Our top 3 finishers all had
double limits. Total weight for the
tournament was 125.47 pounds for the 104 fish caught. We need to add that to Bryan and Jeremy’s
sayings…..if you schedule a Year-end Fish-off at a place where the average
weight of the fish is 1.2 pounds then, YOU MIGHT BE A HAWG HUNTER!
Saturday
night at the Presidents dinner we all enjoyed a great meal prepared by Dave
Dyess and cooked by John Buck. A tip
of the hat to these gentlemen who out did themselves again with the 1 pound
NY strips, baked potatoes, rolls, and salad.
Also a great big “Thank You” to Brenda Weaver for making the Banana
pudding for us to enjoy. It was
fantastic and a great addition to the meal.
And Lee thanks you for the brownies.
Analysis
Of The Year End Standings:
On
the year end standings we had 11 members advance their position in the year
end standing while 11 other members declined.
Biggest mover up was Dave Dyess who advanced 5 places from 15th
to end the year in 10th.
Good job Dave
But
the real story is we now have a winner for the 2013 Angler of the Year Title
and it is Jere Jaillite! Three cheers
for Jere!
This
is Jere’s first time wining the prestigious AOY title since he became a
member way back in November of 1993.
He fished his guest tournament with Buddy Paul after being sponsored
by Rick Bankston owner of Buck & Bass on Pine Forest Road. Jere has been Mr. Consistent all year
placing in the top six for every tournament except this last one….which is
okay because all he needed to do was show up to seal the deal. He joins the ranks of an elite group of
members who have been crowned AOY. 3
of which are still current members.
