Minutes Of The Meeting:

The September meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. September 18, 2013
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 26 members and 1 guest, Justin, son of Chris Myers present. The club was really excited to welcome Ken Repine back into the fold. Ken your looking good and we can't wait to see you fishing again.

Old Business:

The reading of the Minutes from last month was waived. The Treasurer's report was given and accepted. The Booray Pot rolled over once again last month with 23 members participating. See Bill Myrick for specific details. Buddy Yates reported the good news that his son is now living with him at home.

From the Treasurer:

Time to start paying your dues for the 2014 season. Dues for membership are currently $40 and are payable at the October meeting. Any member that hasn't paid his dues by the November meeting will be removed from membership. Don't miss the boat....get your dues paid. Also if you are eligible for the fish-off and missed any tournament this season add $5 per missed tournament to the fish-off entry fee of $30 due at the October meeting.

Reminder:

The name of our new web site is www.PensacolaHawgHunters.com
and will officially be up and running for the start of the 2014 season in November.

The President brought to the membership the proposed Rule Changes to the Constitution & Bylaws and the Tournament Rules for discussion concerning the 2014 season. Those eligible to vote are encouraged to attend the October meeting in order to have their say.
Bryan amended his change so be sure to read through them one more time before the vote.

New Business:

50/50 Drawing was held…
Half to Jere Jaillite and the other half to the Special Fund.

Hawg Hunter Life Member

Eboard position nominations are currently being accepted for consideration. A nomination from the floor was accepted and seconded to nominate Mack Cramer to Tournament Director and Carlito Silvania for assistant Tournament Director. The current President, Treasurer, and Secretary have agreed to stay on for next season if there are no other nominations. If you want to get more involved and make a commitment just step up and make your intention known so you can be nominated.

The President asked for volunteers for the Cookout to be held at the September tournament. Dave Dyess and Lee Brannon were in charge of bringing us a Fish Fry of mullet and mullet backs to enjoy. Those of you who helped cook and clean-up the club thanks you…it was a great success.

We will have the President’s dinner of steaks voted to be cooked by John Buck during the October Fish-off. Make plans to come and enjoy the food and fellowship of some great fishermen.

Bill Myrick graciously donated to the club a 10’x10’ canopy he bought for the weigh in’s. (Sure wish I could of fished with it on Saturday).
Thanks Bill!

Proposed Rule Changes:

Notes:
From The Tournament Director

The August tournament results were given. Great job to the top 4 last month.

Don has chosen not to reenlist as the tournament director next year so if you are interested get your nomination in.

The September draw was conducted for 16 members filling 8 boats.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:47 p.m.

Safety Corner:

Well seems no matter how prepared you can be…something will always happen. This month we had two blown trailer tires by two of our club members. Don had one and the other was yours truly….seems I just bought that tire last year after the Seminole trip when I almost dropped the axle on the trailer. Anyway it was really lucky for me it was just a tire and I had the tools to change it and get back on the road. As a club we seem to be getting away from the caravan. Could it be because most of us are getting retired and have more opportunities to leave even earlier on these two day trips?

September Tournament:

The September Tournament for Saturday was held on Lake Mitchell out of Higgin’s Ferry. We had 16 members fishing out of 8 boats and 2 tag along guests/members for the two day tournament.

Once again the weatherman was right.
He said it was going to rain and rain it did….ALL DAY. At least it stopped in time for the weigh in and cook-out. The fish didn’t seem to mind though as everyone caught fish on Saturday. In fact we had 10 out of 16 members catch a limit of fish.

Saturday’s Top Six

1st - Tony Boyett – 5 fish 10.89 lbs.
2nd – Buddy Yates – 5 fish 10.2 lbs.
3rd – Mack Cramer – 5 fish 9.77 lbs.
4th – John Buck – 5 fish 9.67 lbs.
5th – Jere Jaillite – 5 fish 9.41 lbs.
6th – Jeff Weaver – 5 fish 8.66 lbs.

Saturday Big Fish Honors

Mack Cramer - 3.11 lbs.

Sunday was a completely different day as we fished on Lay Lake under blue sky conditions. The fishing seemed tougher as only 5 limits were brought to the scales but everyone still caught fish.

Sunday’s Top Six

1st – Lee Brannon - 5 fish 12.73 lbs.
2nd – Dave Dyess – 5 fish 8.87 lbs.
3rd – Mack Cramer – 5 fish 8.23 lbs.
4th – John Buck – 5 fish 7.94 lbs.
5th – Jere Jaillite – 3 fish 7.32 lbs.
6th – Dave bock – 5 fish 7.26 lbs.

Sunday Big Fish Honors

Lee Brannon – 4.42 lbs.

Honorable Mention

Jere Jaillite - 4.41 lbs.
(.01 lbs. away)
You should of let him swallow the bait Jere

On to the Top Four of the Tournament!

1st Place
Lee Brannon

Lee had limits of fish both days but wasn’t even in the top six on Saturday. In fact he was way down in 9th place after the first day but really Wowed us on Sunday with his 12.73 bag of beauties to win the two day tournament. His total weight surpassed the 20 pound mark to weigh in at 20.64 lbs. This win by Lee closed the gap between 3rd and 2nd place from 27 points down to 19 in the year end standings.

Great Job Lee!

2nd Place
Mack Cramer

Second place went to Mack who also caught his usual double limits of fish during a two day tournament. Mack’s 10 fish tipped the scales at 18.00 pounds. His bag of fish was anchored by a 3.11 pound Big Fish he caught on Saturday.

Great Job Mack!

3rd Place
John Buck

John also brought in double limits of fish. His 10 fish weighed in at 17.61 pounds. This keeps John in 5th place for the year end standings while jumping up 7 points on Bryan making a 12 point gap between 5th and 6th place. Pretty good John considering you missed 2 of our tournaments.

Great Job John!

4th Place
Dave Dyess

Rounding out the top 4 was Dave Dyess with double limits of fish weighing in at 17.27 lbs. Dave’s 2 dead fish penalty of .4 lbs. cost him a 3rd place finish. So this 4th place finish Dave jumps 5 places in the year end standings up to 10th place.

Great Job Dave!

Tournament Results:

September’s mixed tournament of Lake Mitchell on Saturday and Lay Lake on Sunday had a total of 16 members fishing the two day tournament with everyone catching fish on both days. That means we added $32 to the Golf ball pot since no one drew out the infamous yellow ball.
As a Club we caught 124 fish for a whopping 7.75 fish per person average. We caught 10 limits on Saturday at Mitchell and only 5 limits on Sunday at Lay for a total of 15 limits. 5 members caught double limits over the weekend. The Top 4 and Dave Bock who ended up in 7th place. I believe this might have just been the first time Dave has weighed in back to back limits on a 2 day event. Total weight for the tournament was 209.75 pounds which propels the club up over the 1,000 pound mark for the year and we still have 1 tournament to go. The average per fish comes out to 1.69 lbs. On the yearly standings the top 9 stayed where they were while 2, Dave Dyess and Tony Boyett, jumped up 5 places. We had 5 advance and 7 decline. Overall we had a great tournament and an even better cookout. Tip of the hat to all involved in making it a great success. The mullet expertly cooked by Ron Bridges, Lee Brannon, and Bill Myrick was Outstanding!

Next month during the Fish Off at Apalachicola is the President’s Dinner.
A great meal to be had by all. Dave Dyess has volunteered to pick up steaks and John Buck got voted to do the cooking as we all remember what a great job he’s done the last couple of times. Seems we get rewarded with continued service if you do a good job.

Analysis Of The Year End Standings

Currently in First Place is Jere Jaillite which he’s managed to hold since May.
He’s done this by being Mr. Consistent. Every tournament this season including this one he’s finished up in the top six. Jere is 16.5 points ahead of 2nd place so all he needs to do is show up for the fish off to get the hat/shirt and participation points to be crowned Angler of the Year. Catching a golf ball fish on Saturday would seal the deal.

2nd place in AOY standing sits Jeff Weaver 19 points ahead of 3rd place. Showing up to fish would cement Jeff in 2nd spot for the year. Even if Jeff won the fish-off, which is always possible he’d be short of the points needed to claim the #1 spot. (unless Jere decides not to come play with us)

The real story is going to be what happens in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th spots currently being held by Lee, Mack and John.
They are neck and neck with Lee 2.5 points ahead of Mack and Mack 3 points ahead of John. This tournament they finished 1, 2, 3….will they do it again?
I’m sure Lee hopes so.

Rounding out the Top Six is Bryan McCarthy who is 12 points behind John and 14 points ahead of 7th place Bill Myrick. Meaning Bill would have to win and Bryan skunk for him to fall out of the top six. I guess that’s why Bryan gave me his forwarding address 2 months ago of where to send his plaque
.
