Minutes of the Meeting:

The December meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. December 11, 2013
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
Our President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 24 members present.

Old Business:

Reading of the Minutes from the November meeting was waived by the membership. The Treasurer's report was given and accepted.

Cliff Armstrong was voted into the club by a unanimous vote.  Welcome back Cliff!

Booray Pot now has 20 members participating and hasn’t been won since March of last year...see Bill Myrick for details.

Brenda Weaver sent us a Thank you note for the Plaque she received at the banquet.  Well we say “Thank you back for all the brownies you make for us on our weekend trips.”

Kudo’s went out to all those involved in putting on a highly successful year end banquet at the Cock of the Walk.

Name Plaques were made up for the weigh-in tub and installed at the tournament…..to note Jere Jaillite now has his name on both sides of the tub.  Fisherman of the Year and a Big Fish of the Year.   Good Job Jere!

New Phone lists were e-mailed out.  If your info changes be sure to let the secretary or Jere know so it can be updated.   Do yourself a favor….CHANGE OUT the one in your wallet NOW.

New Business:

50/50 drawing was conducted and Bill Myrick was the winner. ½ goes to Bill and ½ goes into the special fund.

Turns out we had a Guest Speaker in our ranks.   “The Bob Jones” stepped up and discussed First Aid for Fishermen with us.

Here’s some of his recommendations:

1.     Have a First Aid Kit in your boat.

2.    Know where it is!

3.    Check the Dates on the items in the kit.

4.    Throw away the out of date stuff!

5.    Check the ointments to make sure they are not petrified.

6.    Get some stretchy tape like the kind they use at the clinic’s when you get a shot.   It’s a great way to use direct pressure to stop the flow of blood.

7.    Include a pair of side cutters or “dikes” capable of cutting a hook.

8.    Learn the hook removal snatch technique before you fish with Bob.

As our club gets older we are more prone to mishaps…..like Bill Myrick losing his hearing aid at the weigh-in.

  “What did you say?”

Frank Kelly brought some items in to auction off….thanks Frank.

From the tournament Director:

A reminder that in order to get Hat/Shirt points at the weigh-in:  You have to be there AND actually be wearing BOTH the hat and the shirt.

Show some respect for other peoples boats while we are standing around the weigh-in.  Don’t leave your trash in them.

In the event we have Dead fish….(none so far this year)…don’t throw them back for the turtles….take them home or utilize the “unwanted item bin receptacles found

near the landings”

Remember at the weigh-in’s decked out in our fancy Hat and Shirts we are on display to the public and what we do reflects on us as a Club.

Mack invited us over to his house for the Annual Super Bowl Gala Event he sponsors every year to be held February 2nd.  See Mack to make your intentions know for attending this fun filled event and for directions to his house.

If you need to cancel out your participation in an upcoming tournament see the rules…but above all “Contact the Tournament Director!”

The golden rule on the tournament tub is the official ruler…if you want to you can have yours calibrate to it….just bring it over to Mack’s shop for fine tuning…

November tournament results were given out and the draw was done for partners for the December Tournament at Escambia River.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:43 p.m.

From the Tackle Box...

Well its back to the Tensaw river system for January out of Cliffs landing. Looks like we will be fishing an outgoing tide for the better part of the day.  This is good, outgoing tides seem to produce a better bite. This time of year the water and air temperature has started to drop. For me I like this.  Having fished this system for the past 37 years I have been able to gain a lot of knowledge fishing tidal waters.  The cool air and water temps with an outgoing tide sets into motion HEAD FOR THE GRASS.  Now once you get there make sure you find the moving water in creeks and the river. For me I have found that the Junebug finesse worms with a 1/8 ounce weight are better along with ¼ ounce spinner baits, now I know we all have our favorites but give these a try. I hope that my suggestions help you in catching fish. Oh by the way small crank baits are good also. When fish in the winter REMEMBER SLOOOOOW presentation for all baits. We will discuss Rule 5 B at the meeting. Remember to be safe on the water and Always respect where your fellow Hawg Hunter is fishing.

It is each man's responsibility to notify both the Tournament Director and his partner if he is unable to participate, giving as much advance notice as possible.

December Tournament:

The December Tournament was held at Escambia River out of the Swamphouse Landing.  As this is in our backyard we just all met there instead of our usual caravan.  After one cancelation, hope you are feeling better Cliff, we had 9 boats with 17 Hawg Hunters present.

The weather started out pleasant for December then rained a little because it WAS a scheduled event for the Hawg Hunters.   Air temps in the 60’s with the water temp at 55.

1st Place

Jeff Weaver

Jeff showed us that even though he got himself a new boat it didn’t detract him from catching fish.  His 3 keepers weighed in at 6.26 pounds with a kicker fish weighing 3.71 pounds.  That fish now happens to be big fish of the year for the 2014 tournament season.

Great Job Jeff!!!

2nd Place
Mack Cramer

Mack brought in our only limit of fish caught during the tournament.  His 5 fish tipped the scales at 6.16 pounds…just .1 pound behind 1st place.  Mack is now the only person in the club who maintains a 100% fish caught rating after 2 tournaments.  10/10 fish.

Congratulations Mack!!!

3rd Place
Jere Jaillite

Third place went to Jere Jaillite who was drawn out as a non-boater this time.  Funny how Randy’s boat looks just like yours.  Jere’s 3 fish weighed in at 3.31 pounds.  Jere is starting out once again this season with 2 tournaments placed in Top Six just like last season which led to his AOY title.

Congratulations Jere!!!

4th Place
John Buck

John, now back from tackling Bambi in Nebraska, rounds out our top 4 fishermen.  His 3 fish weighing in at 3.18 pounds was good enough to take away the last money spot. This propels John up the rankings 10 spots from tied in 22nd to tie for 12th place.

Tournament Rule #5b & 23
Would like to remind everyone that Tournament Rules 5 b. and 23 deals with our responsibility as a boater and non-boater. Basically it deals with notifications and payment of fees. Please take a moment to read these 2 rules.

5b. It is each man's responsibility to notify both the Tournament Director and his partner if he is unable to participate, giving as much advance notice as possible.

Rule 23. Should a member or potential member elect to fish in a club tournament as a non-boater and pays the required fees,

it is expected that that member will fish and pay ½ of the boater's expenses. These expenses include boat and truck gas, oil, ramp fees, and motel room if necessary. If the non-boating member cannot fish and contacts the  Tournament director

prior to 9:00 PM on Thursday the non-boater's obligation for half of the expenses is waived and his tournament fees will be returned to include big fish. After 9:00 PM on Thursday, the non-boater is committed to pay ½ of the boater's expenses whether he actually fishes the tournament or not.

Tournament Results:

We had a total of 17 Hawg Hunters with no guests fishing the tournament with only 12 people catching fish. Could have been 13 except one of our members went home early.  Big fish honors went to Jeff Weaver and the money was handed to his Wife.   See what happens when your spouse comes to the weigh-in….  Jeff’s 3.71 pound largemouth was a thing of beauty.   Dwarfed all the other 12” fish caught.  We had 1 limit and no dead fish.  The club caught 26 fish for a 1.5 fish per person average weighing 32.85 total pounds.  This means the average weight of a fish was 1.26 pounds.

No one pulled the yellow ball during the golf ball draw so it rolls over to next tournament….will it be you?    It’s really easy to win….all you have to do is catch a fish in the tournament and draw the yellow ball out of its resting place next to the 20 other white golf balls.  Simple!  In technical terms it’s a “Logical AND gate”.  Both statements must be true and in a specific order to get a true output.

Catch a fish first AND then draw the Yellow Ball = winning the pot.
