Minutes of the Meeting:

The March meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. March 19, 2014
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
Our President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 22 members present and 1 guest present, Warren Jaillite, brother of none other than our own Jere same last name Jaillite.

Old Business:

Reading of the Minutes from the February Meeting was actually read this time....now we know why they are waived each month.   The Treasurer's report was given and accepted.

The Booray Pot has rolled over again with 20 members participating and all of us were hoping it would be ourselve to catch that elusive 5 pound Hawg to collect all that money. See Bill Myrick for details.  If it does fall to a lucky angler it would be an oppurtunity to get in the pot if you haven't been participating.

New Business:

50/50 drawing was conducted and Mack Cramer came up with the winning ticket. Remember you can't win if you don't buy a ticket.  Half of the 50/50 goes to the winner and the the other half to the special fund which pays for our meals at the 2 day tournaments.

The Cookouts are coming!  Jeff passed around a sign-up sheet for the cookout.  Thanks for all those who volunteered.

(IMO the cookout turned out to be really good.  Hard to top the hambugers and Brats Dave Dyess gets for us every year.  Great job to the cooks who grilled them to perfection and the cleanup crew who made sure we left the place better than we found it.)

Carlito brought in some items to raffle off with the proceeds going to the club.  Thanks Carlito.  (Guess we need to start bringing more money with us if we continue to get donations from the memebers.  Wanted:   Aucutioneer....must be able to get the most bang from items sold.....

Bill Myrick is going to fish a tournament at Lake Martin and is accepting guidance on how and where to catch them....if you want to share your honey hole.....give him a call.  Maybe you'll get to share his winnings.

Jeff Weaver told us of the United Way Charity Tournament being held on April 5th at Blackwater River.  It's a team format and if you are interested contact Jeff for details.

From the tournament Director:

Reminder: if your insurance renews...please give a copy to the Asst. Tournament Director Carlito otherwise your boat may become disqualified for use during the tournament.

As the warmer weather comes our way...be thoughtful of your fish in the livewell. We are trying to avoid killing the fish we catch.  We want to release every fish possible to be caught again another day.

If you have any comments or suggestions on how to make our weighin's more efficient, fun or just better be sure to see Mack with your ideas.

Maps to Trails End Landing were handed out to all.

February tournament results were given out and the draw was done for partners for the March Tournament at Lake Seminole.

We also raffled off a free cabin 2 night stay with the $140 collected going to the special fund.  Kevin Simmons and his partner were the lucky winners.   Special thanks to the Land's End Lodge for their gracious gift.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:56 pm.

From the Tackle Box...

You know we spent several years trying to get the Hawgs to go to Jordan and finally we got the go ahead, Now it’s Why aren’t we going to Jordan if it’s not on the schedule.  Well for the April Tournament that’s where we are headed. Jordan is the type of lake where all can catch fish booth large mouth and Spotted. One of my favorite techniques is the spot sticker better known as the shaky head. I like to use an assortment of colors at Jordan, Green pumpkin blue, June bug/ and blue fleck and of course the spinner bait. Top water can sometimes be good and when it is I like the chug bug and buzz bait. I have also found that if they are pulling water go to the damn and work a crank bait or rattle trap in the current this can be very productive. Anyway take the few tips I’ve mentioned put it with what you like to do and hopefully you will have a successful day on the water. Remember we are staying at the Inn of Clanton (Guest House Inn) at exit 208 and we are putting in at Bonners, That’s the price we pay to get away from motels that don’t want us. Good luck to everyone and remember be safe on the water and RESPECT WHERE OTHER PEOPLE ARE FISHING.

Tournament:

The March Tournament was a two day tournament held at Lake Seminole out of Lands End Lodge and Landing located just off the Chattahoochee River.  We had 9 boats with 18 anglers make the uneventful drive over.

Tournament Results:

1st Place

Don Jahnke

Don's two day total of 8 fish weighing in at 23.21 pounds was a good 5 pounds heavier than 2nd place finisher.  He also claims the Heaviest One Day Stringer Title this year with a 15.29 bag of beauties on Saturday.  His kicker fish was big enough to win the Booray monies with a 5.91 whopper.   Seems to me....Don won the Booray last year at Seminole too.  Somehow we need to talk him into not going to Seminole next year although rumor has it Don has already turned in his Tournament Wish List for the 2015 season...with Seminole listed 12 times.

 Congrats Don!

2nd Place
Marion Johnson

Marion finished the tournament with a two day total of 7 fish weighing a whopping 18.7 pounds!   On Saturday Marion caught his first limit of fish in the club weighing a respectible 11.99 pounds.  Then on Sunday he brought in 2 fish averaging more than 3 pounds apiece.  Marions kickers for the tournament were a 4.13 pound beauty on Saturday followed by a 3.67 pound stud on Sunday.   This is Marion's fisrt time in the top 4 since joining the club and everyone gave him a round of applause while gladly handing over their tournament entry fees to him.

Great Job Marion!

3rd Place
Dave Bock

Third place went to Dave Bock who brought 7 fish to the scales weighing 17.67 pounds.  Dave's 5 fish limit on Saturday weighed 14.44 pounds which had him in 2nd place on day 1 but as usual the conditions changed on Sunday and he wasn't able to maintain it dropping him to 3rd place.  Dave had two nice kickers Saturday topping 4 pounds apiece and rumor has it one of them came out of Mack's livewell or so you'd of thought.

Congrats Dave!

4th Place
Jere Jaillite

Rounding out the top four we find Jere Jaillite back in the money after taking the month off last month..   Jere brought in the most fish of all of us to be weighed in.  His 9 fish weighed 17.56.  This 4th place finish jumps Jere up to 1st place in the AOY race.

Congratulations Jere!

Tournament Results:

Our annual Lake Seminole tournament turned out to be a good one this year with 18 anglers catching 96 fish for the two day period.  We had 7 limits caught the first day but things slowed down just a bit for the second day.  Those 96 fish gave us a 5 fish per person average out of a possible 10 per person or a 50% rating.  Total weight  for the tournament was 212.01 pounds of fish which comes out to a 2.2 lb average per fish.  Unfortunately 4 of those fish didn't survive the ordeal.  But the rest...even Don's Big Fish of 5.91 lbs made it to be caught another day.
At the weigh in there was a couple complaints about the Orange Ball being put in the Golf Ball draw.  But that didn't stop two of our lucky anglers, Terry Smith and Rick Howard from drawing it out.  If you pull the Orange Ball you have to Pay another dollar to the pot.  We all had a great laugh about it....which I believe was the purpose of added it to our game of chance.  We did however have a truly lucky winner who pulled the Golden Yellow Ball which means you Win the pot.  Marion Johnson was just that guy.  Turned out to be a great weekend for Marion.  Well done!

AOY Analysis

Well things got moved around a bit on our AOY race.  Jere's 4th place finish jumped him up from 3rd last month to 1st place.  Points wise he's now tied with Mack but if you go to our rule book Jere has caught more fish thus the 1st place standing.  Mack drops to 2nd while Jeff maintains his 3rd place spot.  Bill still in 4th place closed the gap a little to just 10 points behind 3rd.  Last month's 5th place Buddy Yates couldn't make the tournament so he drops down to 12th place.  He was spending real good quality time with his wife turning Country.  By no means is he out of the running as only 10 points separates 5th and 12 place.  Dave Bock's 3rd place finish propells him up the leader board to take over the vacant 5th place spot.  He jumped from 10th last month to 5th this month.   Rounding out the top 6 is Ron Bridges who holds on to this place from last month.

We had 8 anglers advance while 15 anglers declined.  Most of the declines was because they missed out on the tournament.  Remember you have to participate to get points added.  Biggest movers up the leaderboard where Don Jahnke and Marion Johnson our 1st and 2nd place winners.   Funny thing is they were in the same boat too.   Don's boat saw 41.91 pounds brought to the scales for the weekend.  I heard Don was culling on Saturday too so I'd say they were in the right spot.   Did anyone get a GPS fix on them?
