And
now what you all been waiting for. Insights from our Tournament Director:
From the Tackle Box... | Hello fellow Hawg Hunters, December finds us heading to Escambia
River out of Swamp House landing. Please make sure you pay the 5.00 launch
fee. Now fishing The Escambia. Many of you have probably fished Escambia more
than I but Let me pass on some things that could help you catch some fish. As
always fishing the grass the spinner bait and DOA can be very productive
(always call Joe Patti Seafood to find out what color local shrimp are and
adjust accordingly). Small finesse worms are good, Black/June bug/ and green
pumpkin. Mid river crank baits (crawfish colored) are good along with worms
and spinner baits. Up river (my favorite) fishing fast water, I like to throw
spinner baits and Buzz Baits. I hope some of this info will help you
have a better day on Escambia. God knows we need all the help we can get on
Escambia. Below is Rule #8 in the Tournament rules. We will discuss
this rule at the Dec. meeting. Be Safe on the Water and Always Respect Where
Your Fellow Hawg Hunter Is Fishing. | Tournament Rule #8
8. Prior to the start, partners should resolve a schedule that
permits equal time at the Trolling motor.
The contestant who is operating the Trolling motor shall have
the privilege of selecting the route to be fished. However, in the event that
one contestant elects not to operate the Trolling motor, and such election is
satisfactory with his partner,
the contestant who waived his right to operate the Trolling
motor will have the right to select areas to be fished. |

November
Tournament:
The
November Tournament was held at Tensaw River out of Cliff’s Landing due to
Live Oak already having a tournament scheduled. We met at Food World and had a uneventful drive to the river. “Knock on Wood”. After a couple member cancelations we ended
up with 9 boats for 16 club members and one guest, Cliff Armstrong of Gulf
Breeze.
We all
started out in 1st place but only one member was able to stay in
first after the weigh-in was concluded.
None other than our new tournament director Mack Cramer.
1st Place
Mack Cramer
Mack put a good whipping on us by bring
5 fish to the scales weighing in at 9.48 pounds almost 4 pounds ahead of the
rest of us. He also caught the big
fish of the tournament a 2.79 pound beauty.
So for now…Mack is currently our Fisherman of the Year and has caught
the Big Fish of the Year. Will his
titles stay in tack? Come fish with
us to find out.
Great Job Mack!!!
2nd Place
Jere Jaillite
Jere brought in a limit of 5 fish weighing in at 5.70 pounds for
a second place finish. This means he is starting off the year consistently finishing
in top six places which was the key to his success last year in earning the
coveted AOY title.
Congratulations Jere!!!
3rd Place
Kevin Simmons
Third place went to Kevin Simmons catching a limit of fish out
of the back of Mack Cramer’s boat. His
limit weighed in at 5.65 pounds. Also putting
Kevin in the number 3 spot for AOY points.
You’ll never guess what Kevin did after catching his limit.
When you are tired of guessing, click this link. Kevin at his best
Congratulations Kevin!!!
4th Place
Frank Kelly
Frank
found himself in the last money spot with 4 fish weighing 4.76 pounds
fishing out of the back of Randy Cole's boat. We heard Randy was
a good guide. This also puts Frank in the 4th place spot for AOY
points. Can he stay there? We have a whole new year of
tournaments to find out.
Congratulations Frank!!
Tournament Results:
We had a total of 16 Hawg Hunters and 1 guest fishing the
tournament with 14 people catching fish. Big fish honors went to Mack
Cramer with a 2.79 pound lunker. We had 3 people catching limits
and to start out right for the new year....all fish were released
safely back to be caught again. In other words if you can't read
between the lines...No dead fish. Good job all. We
caught a total of 36 fish for a 2.5 fish per person average weighing
47.44 pounds for a 1.31 lb average per fish. Most of us had 12"
fish and our new Tournament Director made sure they all measured! New
Sheriff in town or old Sheriff which ever way you want to look at it. Mack was the only one with quality fish so it would stand to reason why he won the tournament. I
should also mention that during this tournament Jeff Weaver and his
partner Don Jahnke broke Jeff's winning streak of "someone in
his boat placing in the money spots." Well maybe next time!
We also had a winner of the Golf Ball Draw. Rick Howard pulled the infamous Yellow Ball to win the pot.
Prospective New Member! | Cliff Armstrong | Gentelmen,
meet Cliff Armstrong of Gulf Breeze, Florida. He is a ole Hawg
Hunter from the 90's who has just recently retired and wants to get
back into chasing them little green trout again with our club. If
he looks familiar, he's currently in the Panhandle Club but would like
to join us fishing from the back seat now that he has more time on his
hands after leaving his Sheriff's patrol car. He's also an
Airforce Veteran who spent a couple years in the missle silo's
keeping us safe from anyone who would do us harm. Good thing he
never had to push "that button" Do I dare say....Cliff is being
sponsored my Mack Cramer. (I hope that won't change your vote as
I enjoyed fishing with Cliff. I told him it wouldn't look right
him bringing in 5 fish on a guest tournament ..so he kept
shaking them off after 4!) |
