Minutes of the Meeting:

The October meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at
7:00 P.M. October 15, 2014 at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.  Our retiring President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 21 members present along with 2 guests.   One we've met before, Jason Weaver, Jeff's son and the other was Chris Robey a prospective member who just moved into the area for flight school after graduating college.  He fished with his college's team in the North Carolina area.

Old Business:

Jeff started out his last official meeting in his customary  manner by telling us a little joke to put us all in a good mood.  He will be sitting on the side lines in the cheap seats for a break from the politics of it all.  Join me in wishing him well in his future endeavors.  If we are lucky he'll also give us a chance to win some tournaments.  He racked up 5 wins this past year while holding the office of the President.

The reading of the Minutes was waived and the Treasurer's report was given and accepted.   Buddy wanted to remind us that dues are due at the start of the November meeting.  If you haven't paid your $40 by the November meeting you will have to do a guest tournament to rejoin the club per our constitution.  If you have paid your dues already like some of us did....starting November 1st you are tied for First Place in the Angler of the Year standings for the 2015 season.  Hooyah!

The Booray Pot will roll over again this month as no one caught a fish over 5 pounds at Lay Lake.  Lee Brannon came pretty close with his 4.55 pound Hawg.  November marks the time for us to feed the pot again.  Everyone who wants to stay in the pot needs to ante up $24 at the November meeting to cover the $2 per month that gets added every tournament.  See Bill Myrick for details.

A vote was conducted on the only rule change we had submitted this year.  Of the 16 eligible  voting members present 8 voted for, 8 voted against.  Per our voting rules a 2/3's majority was needed so the proposed changed failed to pass.

The Vote will be conducted at the October meeting.  We have 16 members who meet the criteria of having fished 6 tournaments  prior to the October Meeting eligible to vote.  Remember it takes a 2/3 vote of those members present to change the rules.

Dave Dyess mentioned that he fished all last tournament with 3 broken ribs after his spill in the shower.  Now that's Hawg Hunter dedication!

Voting for club officers was held at the meeting in which All nominees were voted in by a unanimous vote.  The following officers will make up our E-board for the 2015 season:

President - John Buck

VP/Treasurer - Buddy Yates

Secretary/Web Master - Dave Bock

Tournament Director - Mack Cramer

Asst. Tournament Director - Bill Myrick

New Business:

The 50/50 drawing was conducted and Jere Jaillite was the lucky winner.  The 50/50 money the club gets is used to feed us at the 2 day tournaments.  This month at Lay we had the Annual Presidents Steak Dinner which was picked up by Dave Dyess and cooked by John Buck.  Great Job guys!  Also a special shout out goes to Brenda Weaver for the deserts!   And don't forget Jeff and Dave Bock for carrying up the cooking supplies and grill.

Kevin Simmons reported to the club about prospective Year End Banquet spots and the club voted to go to Sonny's down on Navy Boulevard.   So we are now confirmed for Sonny's BBQ located at 630 N. Navy Blvd.  Friday December 5th at 6pm.  Kevin will bring us the menu's at our next meeting.

Bill Myrick will be having a medical procedure in the first week of November so keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

September tournament results were given out and the draw was done for partners for the October Tournament at Lake Lake.

The Meeting was adjourned at 8:07 pm.

From the tournament Director:

Mack reminded us that everyone needds to bring weighin bags to the tournament so that each individual has his own fish in his own bag.  Also remember no markers on fish at the scales.  Each member should have their own life jacket too.  Mack also asked for a little respect by answering his e-mails when he is looking for information on who's going to fish.  Another point is the boater's need to make sure your gas tanks are full prior to the start of the tournament so expenses can be split fairly.

From the Tackle Box...

They call it Claiborne Lake, it’s sandwiched between 2 dams about 65 miles apart. We will be putting in at the upper dam just below Millers Ferry.  When they pull water the race is on to get to the dam first but if not you gotta hunt. Let’s go on the basis that the water is being pulled. There is plenty of room for about 4 boats around the dam. Some things you might want to throw would be rattle trap, crank bait, and scrounger and Alabama rig. Remember Alabama Law requires that if you are within 500 feet you must have a life jacket on provided of course Tony brought you one.  Just down from the landing is not a bad place to fish, I like buzz baits and spinner baits there. From there work the deep bends with worms and jigs, Dark is always a good choice, and red shad.  John Buck and I have a secret worm from back in the 80s sure hope the fish hasn’t forgotten it. Anyway we need the water temp to drop just a little and the spots should be very active. If you plan on going up Friday better call the Southern Inn (334) 682- 4148 I just reserved mine and he said he was getting full.  REMEMBER TO TURN OUT YOUR HEAD LIGHTS AND ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS SO YOU CAN HEAR.  Of course remember to roll the windows back up (Bob Jones).  Could this be another Slammer Award Nomination? Remember to be safe and respect where others are fishing.

PS: Only 7 wish lists were turned in, of the 7 only 5 were completely filled out. This makes it difficult for the E-Board to get a handle on the club wishes. We will do our best to select sites that we think is in the best for  the club .

Tournament:

The October Fish Off Tournament was a two day tournament held at Lay Lake.  We had 18 members fishing out of 9 boats with 16 of those members eligible for the top 10 fish off payouts.  All they had to do was make it in the top 10 after 2 days of fishing!

Prefish day Friday we had temps in the lower 40's with Fog so when we got up Saturday morning to mid 50's with no fog we were able to blast off at safe day light.  Sunday was a little cooler but luckily no fog.  Both days were clear blue bird skies with temps rising to the mid 80's during the day.  Sundays wind was heavier than Saturday unless you fished with Don and I.  Our little place was tucked out of the wind.

Tournament Results:

1st Place

Jere Jaillite

Jere finally got his first place win of the season and what better time to get it than during the fish off!  His 5 fish limit on Saturday of 11.93 pounds added to the 5 fish limit he caught on Sunday of 10.86 pounds totaled a whopping 22.79 pounds.  Jere's win cemented his Angler of the Year Title for the 2014 season.

  Great Job Jere!

Congrats Jere!

2nd Place
Jeff Weaver

Jeff brought to the scales 2 limits of fish during the two day tournament.  His total weight was 19.37 pounds.  I heard he was culling fish both days too.   In the AOY race Jeff needed to beat Jere by 6 points to unseat Jere for the AOY title and he really brought his A game to the tournament...unfortunely for Jeff....Jere brought his too.  The 2nd place finish is Jeff's 7th time in the money spot the season!  So Jeff will end up finishing 2nd in the AOY standings.

Great Job Jeff!

Congrats Jeff!

3rd Place
Kevin Simmons

Kevin finished up the year strong with this 3rd place finish.  His 6th time in the money this year.   Kevin caught 10 fish over the two day tournament weighing in at 16.24 pounds.  This strong finish enabled Kevin to jump past Bill Myrick in the AOY Standings taking over the 4th place spot for the 2014 season.

   Great Job!

Congrats Kevin!

4th Place
Michael Johnson

In 4th place is our newest member Mike who brought in a nice bag on Sunday of 10.56 pounds to add to the 5.36 pounds he caught on Saturday.  His two day total of 15.92 pounds beat 14 others to take 4th place.

Great Job!

Congratulations Michael!

AOY Analysis

Alrighty then.....the season is done and the AOY race is over.

Congratulations go out to:

Jere Jaillite

 Angler of the Year!

2014 Season

He was able to hold off Jeff's end of season charge to come out on top.  Jere's first place finish at Lay Lake ensured his success.  Jere finished in the money 8 times this year.  1-1st, 2-2nds, 3-3rds, and 2-4th place finishes.

Great Job Jere!

2nd place finisher is Jeff Weaver

who knocked Mack out of the spot last month.  Jeff finished just 7 points behind Jere and is probably wishing he would of fished the June tournament.  Jeff finished 7 times in the money spots.  5-1st's, 1-2nd and 1-3rd place finish.

Great Job Jeff!

3rd place went to Mack Cramer who had a couple of tough tournaments near the end of the season.  He started out the year by winning the first tournament and pretty much stayed in the top six all year.  Mack finished 5 times in the money.  1-1st, 1-2nd, 1-3rd and 2-4th place finishes.

Great Job Mack!

4th place was earned by Kevin Simmons who was on fire the last 3 months.  He up rooted Bill Myrick who held it for most of the year.  Kevin finished 6 times in the money.  1-1st, 2-2nds, and 3-3rd place finishes.

Great Job Kevin.

5th place in the AOY standing went to Bill Myrick.  Everyone thought he was untouchable but Bill also struggled the last couple of tournaments falling into 5th place from 4th.  Still, maintaining a position in the top six, is not an easy feat.  Bill finished in the money only 1 time this year, a 2nd place finish in April, but he consistently caught fish in all but one tournament.

Great Job Bill!

Rounding out our top 6 fishermen of the year is Dave Dyess.  After Zeroing on Saturday we all thought he would drop out...but he proved he is worthy of the 6th spot by catching a nice bag on fish on Sunday weighing 9.31 lbs.  And he did all this from the back of everyone else's boat.  Dave finished twice in the money this year. A 2nd place in February and a 3rd place in September.

Great Job Dave!

Slammer Nominee's

Seems we may have another Slammer Nomination or two this month.  Both Dan Nash and Bob Jones did the same thing but Bob's act carries more weight because this isn't this first time he's done it.  What is it you may ask....well you know how Mack keeps telling us to turn off the headlights and roll down the windows while backing the boats down?  Seems Bob and Dan did just that....but both forgot to ROLL UP the windows before starting the fishing day.  So Kevin's and Tony's trucks were unsecure all day.   Good thing it didn't rain like the last time Bob did the same thing to Tony's truck.
