Minutes of the Meeting:

The September meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at

7:00 P.M. September 17, 2014
at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.
Our President Jeff Weaver presided over the meeting. There were 22 members present.

Old Business:

Jeff started out the meeting in his customary  manner by telling us a little joke to put us all in a good mood.

The reading of the Minutes was waiver and the Treasurer's report was given and accepted.

Once again the Booray Pot rolled over from the August tournament as no one caught a fish over 5 pounds at Tensaw.  (Roger Helm this month at Lake Mitchell came awful close with a 4.82 pound Largemouth.)  See Bill Myrick for details.

A civil discussion was conducted on the only rule change we had submitted this year.  The Vote will be conducted at the October meeting.  We have 16 members who meet the criteria of having fished 6 tournaments  prior to the October Meeting eligible to vote.  Remember it takes a 2/3 vote of those members present to change the rules.

New Business:

50/50 drawing was conducted and Cliff Armstrong was the lucky winner.

Please Keep the Johnson family, Michael and Marion, in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of their loved one.

Hooyah!   We got a nomination by Mack Cramer who nominated John Buck to be our next President.  ( And John didn't say no!)

We will be voting in our Officers for the 2015 Season at the October meeting.

Proposed Officers:

President:  John Buck

VP/Treasury: Buddy Yates

Secretary/Web Master: Dave Bock

Tournament Director:  Mack Cramer

Asst. Tournament Director: Bill Myrick

If you haven't already done so.....you need an Alabama fishing license before our next tournament in October as we will be having our Fish-Off tournament at Lay Lake.

Volunteers were needed and accepted for our cookouts at the September and October tournament.  September if the fish fry with October being our Presidents dinner with steaks.

Two of our members Roger Helm and Bill Myrick brought in a couple items to auction off which netted the club $30.  Thanks guys!

Rumor had it, Pete Potter, one of our honored lifetime members will be relocating back here to fish with us again.  Welcome back Pete!

August tournament results were given out and the draw was done for partners for the September Tournament at Lake Mitchell.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.

From the tournament Director:

Mack handed out tournament wish list sheets for everyone to fill out.  Please make your wishes known for where you want to fish next year by turning in the form.  Didn't get one?   Just pick lakes/rivers for all 12 months beginning January through December of 2015, write it down, and turn them in.  It's that simple.   I'm sure he'd accept an e-mail too.  Put another way....if your don't state your opinion now....you'll have nothing to bitch about later.

Mack also reminded us that if your fish the tail race below the dam....you need to wear your life jacket at all times while in the vicinity.

From the Tackle Box...

October finds us headed to Lay Lake for our annual Fish Off. Can last year’s winner defend his first place finish?  Can Jere J. hold on to first place ranking? Or will Jeff surge forward and take it, will Mack crash and burn or will he make a run for the club championship? Or will someone lurking in the shadows lunge forward.  To witness these turn of events you gotta go so come on fellow Hawgs lets make an effort for all of us to be there. As I mentioned we will be at Lay Lake and we will be staying at the Inn of Clanton. PLEASE DO NOT CALL TO MAKE YOUR ROOM RESERVATIONS!!!! THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE. Last month we had 2 people call thus the motel thought we wanted 10 rooms. Luckily I was able to get this straightened out. Now if you are going up Thursday give me a call and I will make your reservations for you, or you can call FOR THURSDAY ONLY.

Now let’s talk fishing:  Lay Lake is a great fishery and anglers are able to catch both large mouth and spotted bass. Normally spots don’t like muddy or stained water and won’t bite however there are exceptions, largemouth on the other hand don’t care. They are a true predator and will cease any opportunity to grab an easy meal. Now some of these meals they like are dark worms with the tail dipped, crank baits, spinner baits (white) and top water, Spots like your green pumpkins, gourd green, and watermelon red. You can use spot sticker or Texas both can produce fish.  Hope some of these tips help you have a good day on the water and remember Always respect where others are fishing.

Tournament:

The September Tournament was a two day tournament held at Lake Mitchell out of Higgins Ferry.  We had 16 members fishing out of 8 boats.  Saturday morning we were greeted by a couple other tournaments happening the same as ours but with our 4pm weigh in they were all gone by the time we weighed in.  Saturday morning was overcast then turned into billowing clouds later in the day followed by blue bird skies on Sunday.  Temps were in the low 70's to mid 80's.  Fall is coming.

Tournament Results:

1st Place

Jeff Weaver

Jeff Weaver takes first place honors with a two day total of 9 fish weighing 17.34 pounds.  Put another notch on Jeff's worm rod as this is 5th win this season!   He had a whopping 11.22 pound limit on Saturday and then brought in 4 more on Sunday to keep the lead and win the tournament.

Great Job Jeff!

Congrats Jeff!

2nd Place
Kevin Simmons

Kevin is really showing us what he's made of by doubling down on 2nd place again this month after taking 2nd place last month.  Kevin brought in 9 fish in two days weighing 17.25 pounds just missing 1st place by .09 pounds. Kevin had the heaviest stringer on Sunday for 8.63 pounds.

Congrats Kevin!

3rd Place
Dave Dyess

Dave managed to hang in there for the weekend despite excruciating pain due to his last minute decision to take a bath instead of a shower at the hotel Friday night.  Dave caught 9 fish totaling 16.11 pounds including Saturdays big fish of 3.95 pounds.

   Great Job!

Congrats Dave and were all hoping you are healing up nicely!

4th Place
Roger Helm

In 4th place we have our "out of town" member Roger Helm.  He brought 6 fish up to the scales the totaled 14.57 pounds over the 2 day tournament anchored by a 4.82 pound Largemouth beauty on Sunday.  Almost big enough for the Booray!

Great Job!

Congratulations Roger!

Great to see you again.

Tournament Results:

Lake Mitchell's 2 day tournament was a great time had by all....except maybe Bob Jones.   Good ole "Good Luck Bob"   This time instead of having maintenance problems with his partner's gear he had  problems catching fish himself.  In fact I think I remember him saying he "Choose" not to participate in the golf ball draws on both days.  At least Bob stayed in Good spirits all weekend.

Saturday's top six were as follows:

1st - Jeff Weaver - 5 fish @ 11.22 lbs
2nd - Roger Helm - 4 fish @ 8.66 lbs
3rd - Kevin Simmons - 4 fish @ 8.62 lbs
4th - Dave Dyess - 4 fish @ 8.3 lbs
5th - Tony Boyett - 5 fish @ 8.05 lbs
6th - Jere Jaillite - 5 fish @ 7.69 lbs

Saturday Big Fish Honors
Dave Dyess - 3.95 lbs

Saturday night we had a great fish fry back at the motel.  Nothing like good old Mullet backs deep fried over a propane tank.  I think Lee Brannon out did himself this time as the mullet and the backs were great!

Maybe because Ron Bridges was supervising....anyway...Great Job Lee and Ron on the cooking!   I believe everyone had plenty of food and I know for a fact the beans kept things interesting on Sunday.
Also special thanks to the clean up crew and Dave Bock for hauling all the gear to the tournament.

Sunday's top six were as follows:

1st - Kevin Simmons - 5 fish @ 8.62 lbs
2nd - Dave Dyess - 5 fish @ 7.81 lbs
3rd - Buddy Yates - 4 fish @ 6.87 lbs
4th - Jeff Weaver - 4 fish @ 6.12 lbs
5th - Jere Jaillite - 5 fish @ 5.30 lbs
6th - Roger Helm - 2 fish @ 5.91 lbs

Sunday Big Fish Honors
Roger Helm - 4.82 lbs

We only have one birthday boy for the month of October.

Rick Howard

AOY Analysis

Okay....after 11 months of fishing this is were our Top anglers stand.  Still in 1st place is Last years AOY, Jere Jaillite who by the way was the only Hawg Hunter this month to catch double limits of fish.  But his lead is fading...he's only 6 points ahead of 2nd place.  Last year at this point Jere only had to show up to the fish-off to claim the title.   This year it looks like he's gonna have to fish to win the Coveted AOY title.

2nd place is now being held by Jeff Weaver who is coming off his 5th win of the fishing season pushing him up one notch on the standings.  Jumping 9 points ahead of 3rd place and only 6 points behind 1st.

Mack Cramer struggle at Lake Mitchell and ended up dropping down to 3rd place as a result but still 23 points ahead of 4th place.  At this point there's no catching him but can he reclaim 2nd by finishing 9 places ahead of Jeff?

4th place is currently being held by Bill Myrick and we thought he was untouchable but 5th place Kevin Simmons is charging up the standings to within 6 points.  Could Bill lose his 4th place standing he's held onto since January?

5th place Kevin Simmons has been climbing the leader board coming off 2 back to back 2nd place finishes.  Increasing the gap behind him to 19 points but more importantly gaining ground by only 6 points behind 4th place.  Looks like Kevin has nothing to lose but everything to gain.  Can he do it?

6th Place is getting harder to catch by everyone.  Prior to the September tournament we had 6 people within striking distance with Dave Dyess being the one to pull it out.  Dave's 3rd place finish puts him 9 places ahead of the pack vying for 6th.  Will he be able to cement it in stone?

This month we had 7 people advance while 13 declined.  Biggest movers were Cliff Armstrong and Roger Helm who both advanced 5 spots.  Great job guys!

Well only one more tournamet to go!  The stage is set for a good time with our annual Presidents dinner.  Steaks for everyone!  If you go that is.

October marks out fish-off with 19 members eligible for fish-off money.  Remember we pay 10 places on this tournament so make your plans to attend.  Per the Treasurer, if you missed a tournament this year you will owe an additional $5 per each tournament missed plus the $30 entry fee for the fish-off.

It promises to be a good time.

Hooyah!  See you there!
