Minutes of the Meeting:
The August meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order
at
7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 19th of August by our President John Buck. We
had 25 members present which was a good night for us.
Old Business:
Minutes from last meeting was read and accepted.
The
treasury report was read by Buddy Yates who is back in business and
thanks us for all the support during his convalescent leave. The report
was accepted by the membership.
Booray Report: Rolled over from last month with 21 members
participating. See Bill Myrick for details.
50/50 draw was conducted and won by Kevin Simmons. Remember fellas that
the money collected in the 50/50 draw is what pays for our food at the
weekend tournaments so don't be afraid to lose it. Think of it as a
donation if you don't win.
Reservations have been made for Lake Point at Eufula and a
deposit was paid. Those attending the
October Fish Off will be
charged $75 per person to cover the cost. Any money left over will be
added to the special fund for our President's steak dinner. Keep Mack
informed on any changes for your plans to attend.
Club
shirts
The coveted Hawg Hunter shirt worn at each and every tournament is
currently worth 12 points
for the fishing season. To
make sure you don't miss out it's only $67 plus tax for the
shirt with your name and logo on the front. The back embroidery patch
is optional and an additional $40. The club hat is only $15 and also
needs to be worn for the points. See Jeff Weaver to get yours.
Perdido Boat Ramp - it's reported that they are making a lot of
progress on the new boat ramp at Perdido. Swing by and check it out
sometime.
Boat Insurance - Remember in order to be drawn out
as a boater in our
club tournaments you have to have a current boat insurance policy on
file with the Assistant Tournament Director prior to the draw. Be sure
to give him a copy when it renews.
New Business:
With the new season approaching and
it's time to talk about
club officers. Nominations for club officers will be accepted from the
floor at the September and October meetings. If you or anyone
you know is interested in being an active part of the club operations

Fish Fry - Our Annual Fish Fry during the September tournament is
comming up. If you've never had "deep
fried mullet backs" you don't know what
you've been missing. Best thing about them is once you are done eating
the fish there is plenty of bones to be used as tooth picks. Then there
is the Mullet it's self. Always fresh and cooked to a light golden
brown by our very own "Expert Mullet Chef" Lee Brannon. Make your plans
now to attend.
From the Tournament Director:

tournaments remember to contact our very own travel guide Mack Cramer

Payouts were given for last month and the draw was conducted for the
August Tensaw River Tournament.
Meeting adjourned at 7:50pm.
Mack Cramer's "From the Tackle Box for August" Well as summer
begins to leave us the Hawgs find themselves easing into early fall and
headed for the Alabama impoundments Known as Mitchell Lake and Lay
Lake. First we head to Mitchell Lake out of Higgins Ferry
Landing. The Hawgs have always done well here, many limits being caught
and very few if any on the also fished category. My experience has
always been Buzz baits and plastic worms. Colors very by individual
taste but you can’t go wrong with green pumpkin. Grass is usually the
key, Remember in the early fall the bait fish begin to move to the
mouths of creeks and as Oct. nears they are in the creeks. When the
bait fish move so do the bass, so watch your electronics and find the
bait fish. We will fish Mitchell on Saturday and of course the weigh in
will be at 4 pm followed by a fish fry at the Inn of Clanton. Don’t
forget if you are going up Thursday let me know so I can make your room
reservations. Remember there are only 7 rooms on the back side and not
always are all 7 are available so if you want a room on the back side
first come first serve.
Sunday
finds us moving over to Lay Lake and this time most of us will be
treading into new water, we will be going out of Beeswax Landing. This
landing is on the upper end of Lay Lake and will present some new
challenges along with new fishing water, plus the added addition
of the river. Fishing is basically the same as it is on the lower end,
the one main difference is once you move into the river the water is
moving making this end of the lake good for the lake fisherman and good
for the river fisherman. Remember on this end of the lake there are a
few channel markers pay attention to them. For those of you who have
never been there way point the landing so you can find it when you
return for the 1PM WEIGH IN.
Birthday Boys for Sept.
Terry Smith/Lee Brannon/Pete Potter
Just
a reminder to the non-boaters who are going to Eufaula, be prepared to
leave on Thursday if possible as of now we have 7 boaters leaving
on Thursday.
And remember Always Respect where others are Fishing.
August Tournament:
The
August Tournament was held on the Tensaw River out of
Hubbard's Landing.
We caravaned from the Publix on 9 mile road with 11
boats carrying 21
fishermen. We managed to take the long way there this time as
there was a low level fog obscuring the turn to the landing.
See Slammer nomination #1 below for details.
Since it was a August tournament the weigh-in was
conducted at
2 pm. Temperatures at weigh-in was mid 90's with no wind.
The fog didn't lift until around 9am which made the day a little more
pleasant to begin with..
Tournament Results:
S
1st Place
Mack Cramer
Mack win's another! This is his 3rd win this season.
He also has 2 second places this year. Mack was the
only one to bring in a limit of 5 fish. His total weight was
7.62 pounds. Mack was trailing in the AOY points but with
this win he nows commands the lead by 5 points with only two
tournaments left. Can he do it?
Great Job!
Congrats Mack!
2nd Place
The Bob Jones
Bob caught 3 fish to weigh in at 7.59 pounds just .03 lbs short of 1st
place. But look at that whopper! His
kicker fish tipped the scales at 4.56 pounds. Biggest one of
the tournament to earn him big fish money. This is Bob's 2nd time
this year in the money slots!
Great Job!
Congratulations Bob!
3rd Place
Jeff Weaver
Jeff was one short of a limit but still managed to earn a paycheck.
His 4 fish tipped the scales at 5.64 pounds. By
catching fish this tournment he jumped up and over two
guys that didn't, (John and Bill) to put him in 3rd for the
yearly standings. This is Jeff's 4th time in the money
slots....he previously has 2- 2nds and now 2 - 3rd place
finishes this season. He has yet to win a tournament this
season whereas last season we saw him 5 of them. Are we
getting better or is he slowing down?
Great Job!
Congratulations Jeff!
4th Place
Dave Dyess
Dave rounds out our top 4 with 2 fish pressing the scales down to
5.17 pounds. He had the second biggest fish of the tournament
at 3.39 pounds. This is Dave's second 4th place finish this
year and keeps him in the Silver 2nd position for Co-Angler of the Year standings.
Great Job!
Congratulations Dave!
AOY Analysis
This month we had 9 members advance their positions while 8 declined.
Not a lot of big moves as the season is almost over. Most of
the moves were people who caught fish jumping over those that
didn't.
With Mack's first place finish and Lee's 11th place finish we have a
lead change in the AOY standings. Mack now leads by 5 points
over Lee with only 2 tournaments to go before we crown a new champion.
Last year at Lake Mitchell Lee finished 6th to Mack's 11th
place then in October Mack finished 5th to Lee's 7th. At this
point it's still too early to call. All I can say is come to
the next two tournaments to witness first hand who earns the
coveted Angler of the Year title. These two guys have been
swapping back and forth all season in the number one position and since
they are 31 points ahead of 3rd place I think it will just
be between Lee and Mack.
Jumping up to the 3rd slot is Jeff Weaver who caught fish while the
others didn't. But it's still anybody's guess as to who will
end up 3rd. There is only 3 points separating 3rd, 4th, 5th
and 6th positions. This is going to be a close one and it
will probably go all the way to the end before we know how this one
plays out.
Dropping down one slot to 4th place is John Buck with just a half point
lead over 5th place Bill Myrick who also dropped one slot.
The August tournament was tough on these guys as they both
showed up to the scales empty handed.
Jere Jaillite maintains his 6th place ranking but with this tournament
he's really closed the gap to within one point. It really
helps when you catch fish. Hooyah!
CO-AOY Analysis:
Matt Brown is still leading the pack of Co-Anglers with another good
showing at the tournament. He finished 7th to
maintain his top spot in the Co-Angler race. Still has a good
21 point lead on Silver place finisher Dave Dyess. In the
Bronze position Bob Jones jumps in just 3 points behind Dave.
Gonna be tough to catch Matt in the Gold postition but Silver
and Bronze are up for grabs in the next two tournaments.

Thanks to all those it made it great. Special Thanks to
Don and his beautiful bride for setting it up and doing the cooking
along with Mack for doing the paying. Also Jere and Jeff for
keeping us hydrated while we devoured those great weenie's smothered in
chili, kraut, and onions.
Slammer Nominations:
This month we have 2 slammer nominations to share.
The first nomination
goes out to the
leader of the caravan who took us on a 14 mile sightseeing
trip. Would of been great except it was dark and
foggy out so we couldn't see nothing. Which is probably why
the leader of the pack missed the turn in the first place. Since most
of us get about 13 miles to the gallon I think Mack owes us
all a gallon of gas.
Our second nomination this month goes Mr. Ron Bridges. Seems
he waited until everyone else had their boats in the water.
With the eyes of the club on him, Ron signals for Dave Dyess
to back down the trailer. Everything was
looking good.
The trailer entered the water and when the water was at
the proper depth the boat started to float. Then
with all the grace he could muster Ron started backing the boat
off......until he reached the end of the tie down strap he failed to
remove. So now Dave gets out of the truck to wade into the
water to catch the bow and strap it back on the trailer.
Pulling Ron and his boat out of the water they
unhook the strap on the transom and proceed to try it again.
This time the boat gets hung up on the bow strap. Was it
still hooked or just hung up? Ask Ron and Dave about that.
All I know is that after the boat finally came off the
trailer they received a standing ovation from the club who all
beared witness to this early morning folly.
