Minutes of the Meeting:

The December meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 P.M by our President John Buck.  We had 24 members present each earning 2 points towards the Angler of the Year title.  We even had a visit from Pete Potter one of our Lifetime members who will be moving back into the area just to fish with us.

Old Business:

The first thing our new President John did was throw the meeting back over to the old President Jeff who shared a little humor with us.  Seems like we are a club truly stuck in the old ways and resilient to change.

The minutes of last month was read and accepted by the membership.

The treasury report was also read and accepted by the membership.

Booray Report:  No one won it last month so it increases by $42 for the next month.  until someone catches the largest fish over 5 pounds in a club tournament.  See Bill Myrick for details.

50/50 draw was conduct and won by Rick Howard who we haven't seen in a couple of months.  Hopefully he doesn't just take our money and run.  Hope to see Rick again next month and maybe even fish with us.

Annual Year End Banquet

Our annual year end
Banquet
was a great
success!  Many Thanks to all who helped set it up and a special thanks to Kevin Simmons for volunteering to be the Awards Banquet Special Committee Chairman.   His leadership and direct involvement were key to the success of the party.

2014 Big Fish of the Year

New Business:

A sign-up sheet was passed around for everyone to sign-up.  Hope you got your name on it.   Sign up for what you ask?   Well the cookouts of course!  Those things just don't happen without the help of many people who graciously donate their time for the good of the Club.  It promises to be another good year.

Our "local politician" Bill Myrick reported that they are going to be removing the log jam on the Escambia river within the next 90 days.  He also reported that the Perdido River system will be getting a new boat ramp by 1 June.  For more details contact Bill.

Pete Potter reported that Lake Mitchell's docks are being extended.

The Co-Angler race seems to be getting a lot of attention as the club voted to have their pictures added to the standings page.   Now all you have to do is make sure you get your photo taken at the tournaments.

Jim Bailey said he has updated the tide tables over on his web page.  Check them out at   www.hook1.com

If you believe you have an idea that will improve the club then get you voice heard by talking to an E-board member.

Payouts for the November tournament were handed out to the top four places last month and then the draw was conducted for the December tournament.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:43 pm.

From the tournament Director:

December's birthday boy was Jim Bailey.

Mack congratulated us on our current zero dead fish tally for the November tournament.  We need to keep it up and take care of our fish.

For those of you who are past the 65 year old Birthday milestone all you need is proof via a driver's license to be able to fish in Florida waters.  No fishing license required.

Florida has a 5 fish 12 inch limit...so be sure to not bring in any short fish as this would be a violation of the State law and grounds for disqualification.

Insurance forms are to be given to the Asst. Tournament Director.   Remember if you want to use your boat in a tournament you have to have a current insurance form on file with the club.

Party!    Everyone is invited to Mack's Annual Extravaganza on Super Bowl Sunday which takes place on February 1st this year.  Make sure you RSVP to Mack if you intend on joining this fun time.  Even if you aren't interested in Football....there is plenty of entertainment and food to go around.

Tournament:

The December Tournament was a one day event held on the Escambia River out of Swamphouse Landing.  Temps started out in the low 40's reaching up to mid 60's by the weigh-in.  The skies were clear and the wind was not existent at launch time.  Since this is a very local tournament we had 18 people participating out of 9 boats.  After is was all said and done 14 of them 18 members had something to brag about with a least one fish caught from the dead sea of the Escambia River System.

Tournament Results:

1st Place

Mack Cramer

Mack, fishing out of his little boat, brought in one fish short of a limit but it was good enough to take the top spot.  His 4 fish tipped the scales at 6.34 pounds anchored by a Big Fish Whopper of 2.37 pounds.  Little tid-bit....Mack has finished in the 1st or 2nd place position at Escambia River in the last 5 years we have fished there.  Summer or Winter.

Great Job Mack!

 Congrats Mack!

2nd Place
Jeff Weaver

Jeff was also 1 short of a limit but that didn't stop him from taking 2nd place honors.   His 4 fish weighed in at 3.81 pounds for a less than a 1 pound average.  But hey...he's in second and your not!

Great Job Jeff!

Congrats Jeff!

3rd Place
Cliff Armstrong

Cliff managed to have a better average than Jeff but he was only able to find 3 keepers to bring to the scales.  His 3 fish weighed in at 3 pounds for a 3 place finish.   3/3/3 for Cliff.  Still 2 more fish than the rest of us.

   Great job Cliff!

Congrats Cliff!

4th Place
John Buck

Rounding out the top 4 is our 2015 season President with 2 fish weighing in at 2.38 pounds.  The only guy to bring in a 2 fer.  Seems like if only the rest of us had caught only one more fish we too could of been in the money.  What I'm trying to say is good job to John for making it into the 2 fish category which was good enough for 4th place.

Great Job!

Congratulations John!

From the Tackle Box...

The Tensaw Delta once was a fisherman’s paradise but through the years it has gradually declined, mostly due to the harvesting of bass and a large increase in the popularity of bass fishing. In the old days of the Hawg Hunters (70and 80) it was not difficult at all for both partners to limit out (10 fish each in a tournament. But now we struggle to catch 5. But hopefully with some of my tips I will make it easier for you to catch your limit. We will be putting in at Smiths known to us old timers as Mizels. Now remember if you get south of the I-10 bridge you must have a salt water license. Now some tactics I like in the delta is 1, have an outgoing tide and according to Jere high tide will be at 6:04 am and low tide will be at 1:44 pm, this will be perfect. Second , white spinner bait, white spinner bait, white spinner bait, there I have given you the secret, of course I like to throw dark worms and shallow running crank baits, and a DOA. This time of year look for Eel grass just off the bank. Many times bass will be between the bank and the grass. Weightless worms or lizards can produce fish. With the spinner bait, rip through the grass causing a commotion allowing it to fall with a slow retrieve, this can be very productive. With the crank bait look for small points where the tide is moving across it or around it and run the crank bait with the tide in a dart and stop motion, many times this will produce a strike. Places you might want to try would be Game Warden ditch, Conway creek, Crab creek and Lower Crab. Now I have given you a few places to try and some techniques to use. Hope you are successful and remember be safe on the water and respect where others are fishing.

AOY Analysis

With the December tournament under our belts we find that we have our first change in the leader board for the AOY race.  Mack who was in 5th place last month jumps all the way up to first place this month with 38 points.  Just 4 points behind him is Cliff Armstrong who jumped from 7th to 2nd.  Dropping down one slot is Dave Bock to 3rd just .5 points behind.  4th is being held by our new Co-Angler of the Year points leader Matt Brown.  He maintained his position in the standings from last month but Bill Myrick, also a Co-Angler dropped one slot to 5th.  Rounding out the top 6 we have Don Jahnke who jumps up from 10th last month to 6th this month.

CO-AOY Analysis

After our 2nd tournament we also find a new Co-Angler of the Year points leader in Matt Brown.  His 7th place finish jumped him up over Bill's 14th place finish causing Bill to drop to 2nd in the Co-Angler standings.  Bringing home the Bronze...3rd place standing is Dave Dyess.

Slammer Nominee's

If it hadn't been for Jere Jaillite's quick thinking and keen eyesight we could of had a slammer nominee this month.  Dave Bock was rolling out after hearing his name called for blast off when Jere yelled "Dave don't forget to raise your trolling motor!"  Thanks Jere!

Yellow Ball Winner!

Yep, we had another back to back month  with someone drawing out the Yellow Ball.  This time the money goes to Dave Dyess.  Congrats Dave....although you left the rest of us feeling cheated out of our turn to try.
