Minutes of the Meeting:

The February meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 P.M by our President John Buck.  We had 23 members present and one guest Riley Cooper representing Scott's Marine in Alberta, Alabama.

Old Business:

Jeff's little humor got us all rolling into the meeting where the minutes of last month was read and accepted by the membership.

The treasury report was also read and accepted by the membership.

Booray Report:  It's getting bigger.  Typically it falls each year at Lake Seminole.  Are you going?

50/50 draw was conducted and won by Carlito this time.

Bill thanked us for the flowers the club sent when his mother recently passed away.

Bill also told us they had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new ramp going in at Perdido River.  It's supposed to be complete by July 4th.

The Navy Band came and went with all the flare their music brings.  It was a good time had by all who took John up on the offer for free tickets.  Thanks John!

New Business:

Riley Cooper our guest at the meeting gave us a presentation of the services offered by Scott's Marine.  They now carry the Tracker lineup of boats and have onsite repair of Yamaha and Mercury motors.  Check them out at: www.ScottsMarineInc.com

Scott's Marine Inc.

Jeff presented us with info about an upcoming tournament on April 7th at ______.  Hosted by the Lost River Outfitters.  If your interested click on the link for more details.

Tuesday Bass Bash

Mack's annual SuperBowl party was a big success.  A good time had by all.   Thanks Mack for opening up your house and serving up that great food.

Inn of Clanton

Our favorite place to stay on our 2-day tournaments the Inn of Clanton is going to reopen in March under new management so the club voted to change our reservations back over.  They have always treated us right there and we look forward to going back in April for our Lake Jordan tournament.

Payouts for the January tournament were handed out to the top four places last month and then the draw was conducted for the February tournament.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:48 pm.

From the tournament Director:

Watch out for the no wake zones over at Fish River.
Keep an eye on your fish.  We've been doing good lately with no dead fish.   As the weather starts to warm...remember don't put ice in the livewell by itself.....freeze water bottles and use them so the chlorine in the naked ice doesn't kill the fish.

From the Tackle Box...

Lake Seminole, fortunately it has nothing to do with the football team but it can be as unpredictable as the quarter back has been off the field in the past. I have seen the winds blow so hard that it was literally impossible to fish, just think if we would have been on Seminole instead of Fish River, I don’t think I would have taken on that lake in my big Ranger, but hopefully we won’t have the winds to deal with but more likely we will have the possibility of a cold front, let’s keep our fingers crossed that’s not the case this year. The good thing about Seminole is that there are several types of fishing there to pleases everyone, you can go to the big creeks and get in the flats to look for bedding bass, or you can fish ledges down around the dam or you get go up the Hooch (my choice). Whatever you decide to do if that doesn’t work it doesn’t take long to change location and style of fishing. There are many types of bait that produce fish, probably the most popular if the rattle trap ripping it across the submerged grass and of course Buddies favorite the fluke. When bed fishing one has to be patient but I don’t like to bed fish, for me it’s not fair to the non-boater, often times the boater kind of hogs the bed, but that’s something that partners have to work out. However I have found that bright colors work well on bedding fishing, probably so the angler can see when the fish picks it up. Now let’s move to the Hooch for short or the Chattahoochee River, typical river fishing with current. Spinner baits and plastics should produce well.  The Seminole can be a lot of fun and it can also be very treacherous, so be careful and remember respect where others are fishing.

As some of you know I had engine problems on Fish River. It turned out that a reed had broken off and was sucked down into #3 cylinder thus causing the powerhead as we call it to blow, already have torn down and at the machine shop. Should have it up and running in about a week.

Tournament:

The February Tournament was a one day event held on Fish River at the Hwy 98 Bridge Landing.  Temps were in the high 50's to low 60's for the day.  Really a nice day compared to the overnight freezes 2 days before  We had 21 members fishing out of 11 boats.  Some managed to find fish and some didn't.   Bet you could say that for all our tournaments.

Tournament Results:

1st Place

Lee Brannon

Lee found 5 nice fish weighing in at 8.18 pounds to take 1st place and by the way take over AOY 1st place position also.  Lee being a superior worm fisherman...probably caught them on ....what do you think...Worms!

Great Job!

 Congrats Lee!

2nd Place
Jeff Weaver

Jeff had a great day too.  He too had a limit of 5 fish with his weighing it at 6.34 pounds.  I'd betchya he caught his on worms too.....probably Black.  I'm sure you've had those moments when your out fishing and think..."WWJD".   Well he'd throw a black worm.

 (What Would Jeff Do)

Great Job!

Congrats Jeff!

3rd Place
Bob Jones

The Bob Jones brought in 3 nice bass weighing in at 5.89 pounds weighed down by the lunker of the tournament.  His big fish was a 2.48 pound brute.  Not big enough for the Booray but big enough to beat all us for Big Fish Money.  Bob fished with Jeff....first time in 5 years I'm told.  Also looking back through the records this is Bob's first time back in the money slots since way back in November of 2011 when he won that tournament.  Guess your luck is changing Bob!

 Great job!

Congrats Bob!

4th Place
Buddy Yates

Rounding out the top 4 is everybody's friend Buddy Yates.  His 4 fish weighing 5.65 pounds was enough to put him in the money.  I didn't hear if he caught them all on his imfamous Fluke but I know he fished used water all day.   He said he kept running into everybody up north of the bridge....seems anyone who caught fish this time fished up there.  I can tell you they weren't south of the bridge or even over in Magnolia River.

Great Job!

Congratulations Buddy!

AOY Analysis

Alrighty then with 1/4 of the tournament year already over things are heating up in the standings.  We had 10 members advance their postion while 14 saw a decrease in their standing.  Fresh off his current win Lee Brannon Jumps up to the top spot in our AOY Race.  I should say leap frogs up....from 6 points behind 1st to 5 points ahead of second.  Great job Lee!  Moving into second up from 5th is Jeff Weaver.  It really pays to catch fish during the tournament.  Bill holds onto his third place position even though Mack has the same points.  But according to our rules...in case of a tie for AOY you look at who caught the most fish for the year....but both Bill and Mack are tied there too....so next in the rule book says you look at the heaviest stringer weighed in during the year.  Lookin at it this way...Bill takes 3rd because his heaviest stringer was 8.79 compared to Mack's 6.34.  But I'm sure it won't stay this way for long as both are very good fishermen.  Cliff Armstrong drops one place to Fifth while Jere jumps up 2 slots to claim Sixth.

Biggest movers up the leader board were Bob Jones and Buddy Yates who both jumped up 6 places.

CO-AOY Analysis

On the Co-Angler side....Matt once again maintains his top Gold spot but he better  start catching some fish if he want's to keep it.  Jim Bailey is advancing on him fast.  Jim's only 2 points behind to sit in the Silver position.  Frank drops down one to hold the Bronze position.

Yellow Ball Winner!

Seems the Yellow Ball showed up again this month.  This time Dave Bock pulled it out on the first draw.  Once again cheating out the rest who caught fish.  Hooyah!
