Minutes of the Meeting:

The January meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 P.M by our President John Buck.  We had 23 members present each earning 2 points towards the Angler of the Year title.

Old Business:

The minutes of last month was read and accepted by the membership.

The treasury report was also read and accepted by the membership.

Booray Report:  We are still looking for a fish over 5 pounds.  Maybe at Fish River in February.  See Bill Myrick for details.

50/50 draw was conduct and won by Pete Potter.   What a great way to welcome him back fishing with us.

We finally got the Cook-out Volunteer Job Assignment sheet filled out by everyone.   Thanks and be sure to step up when necessary on our cookouts.   They truly are a lot of fun when all the work is shared among club members.

New Business:

The Navy Band is coming to town with a special concert on Feb 23, 2015.  John Buck and his Pensacola Civic Band are sponsoring them.  He has free tickets if you'd like to go see your hard earned tax dollars at work.  Just contact John anytime...day or night.  His phone number is...... (click here)

Boating Safety and the US Coast Guard was the topic of discussion at the meeting.  One key element to boating safety was making sure you are following the rules that are in place.  The following is from the Florida Fish and Wildlife webpage on Boating Regulations.

"Vessels less than 16 feet in length are required to carry at least 3 visual distress signals approved for nighttime use when on coastal waters from sunset to sunrise. Vessels 16 feet or longer must carry at least 3 daytime and three nighttime visual distress signals (or 3 combination daytime/nighttime signals) at all times when on coastal waters."

See their webpage for more information

It doesn't say anything about expiration dates on the flares but if they are expired they should be replaced.

Inn of Clanton

Our favorite place to stay on our 2-day tournaments the Inn of Clanton has closed it's doors due to legal issues.  So Mack has changed our accomandations to the Key West Inn at Exit 205 for  the April Jordan Tournament.  If you plan on going up early...call our personal Travel Agent "Mack" to get a room.

Party!    Everyone is invited to Mack's Annual Extravaganza on Super Bowl Sunday which takes place on February 1st this year.  Make sure you RSVP to Mack if you intend on joining this fun time.  Even if you aren't interested in Football....there is plenty of entertainment and food to go around.

Payouts for the December tournament were handed out to the top four places last month and then the draw was conducted for the January tournament.

The Meeting was adjourned at 7:43 pm.

From the tournament Director:

Birthday boys for Feb. are Billy Myrick, Don Johnke, and Dave Dyess.  At our age these become milestones to be cherished.

From the Tackle Box...

In February we will be headed to Fish River.  Low tide is at 7:44 am so we will be fishing an incoming tide. I would rather have an outgoing tide but look at the positive side, should you run up on a sand bar an incoming tide will help you get off in a few hours. So be careful. Also I need to remind everyone that we are putting in at the Highway 98 Bridge and a SALTWATER LICENSE is needed to fish south of the bridge. Also there are 3 no wake zones on the river. The first one is right there at the 98 bridge where we are putting in, the seconded is up river at the Honey Road Landing and the 3rd one is at the Highway 32 Bridge. From the bridge north is it no wake. So please observe these no wake zones. Fish River can be a great place to go or it can be the worst, it all depends on water levels and clarity of the water, hopefully we won’t have a lot of rain and the river is in good shape.  In past years I have found that plastic work the best. Depending on water clarity dark and green pumpkin works well followed by white spinner baits. Don’t forget the shrimp, they too can be productive.  We will Convoy from Publix's at 9 mile and Pine Forrest road and leave at 4:45 am.  Have a great fishing trip and remember respect where others are fishing.

Tournament:

The January Tournament was a one day event held on the Tensaw River out of Scott's Landing.  Temps started out in the low 40's reaching up to only to mid 50's by the weigh-in.  The skies were clear and the wind was howling most of the day.  We had a very good turnout for a local tournament putting 22 people in 11 boats.  Tough day for most as we had only 16 fishermen catch fish.

Tournament Results:

1st Place

Jere Jaillite

Jere showed us that the weather conditions wasn't the problem most of us thought by bringing in 5 fish to the scales.  His total weight to win the tournament was 7.28 pounds.  Great job Jere this will definetly get you moving up the leader board for the year end standings.

Great Job!

 Congrats Jere!

2nd Place
Lee Brannon

Lee had a great day too.  He also brought in a limit of fish...not an Alabama limit...but a club limit of 5 fish weighing in at 6.91 pounds.  This moves Lee up into 2nd place for the AOY standings.

Great Job!

Congrats Lee!

3rd Place
Jeff Weaver

Not to be outdone...Jeff also brought in a limit of Tensaw River System fish.  His 5 fish weighed in at 6.32 pounds.  Moves him up the leader board too.  At the weighin....Jeff wanted to show us his boat and pull his fish out of the livewell...Bassmaster Classic Style...so he left his boat in the water....or wasn't because his truck wouldn't start?  Do we have a possible slammer nominee?  Be sure to ask him the details.

 Great job!

Congrats Jeff!

4th Place
Carlito Silvania

Rounding out the top 4 is Carlito back from his sabatical.  His 4 fish tipped the scales at 5.21 pounds anchored by a whopping Big Fish of 2.17 pounds.  Great time to win Big Fish honors with 22 members fishing.  The "comeback" kid is now on the leaderboard jumping halfway way up to 16th.

Great Job!

Congratulations Carlito!

AOY Analysis

A Lot of movement around in the leader board this month.  We had 13 members advance while 15 members decline in the standings.   Biggest mover was Carlito jumping up from the bottom 16 places to 16th place.  Next two big movers were Jere fresh off his first place finish and Dan who finally fish a tournament with us this year.   They both jumped up 7 places.  4 others, Lee, Jim, Ron, and Buddy all went up 5 places.  As for decliners...biggest reason was because they did poorly at the tournament.  The others just didn't fish.

Okay, Mack holds on to 1st place with a lead of 6 points.  Lee moved up into 2nd place with Bill moving up behind him to 3rd place by 1 point.  Cliff dropped down 2 spots to sit at 4th place one point behind 3rd.  Jeff jumps up 4 places to 5th just one point behind 4th and Dave B. drops down 3 places to settle at 6th place just .5 points behind 5th.    So that's the top six after 3 tournaments...but the numbers are so close that it's still anybodys game.

CO-AOY Analysis

On the Co-Angler side....Matt maintains his top Gold spot even though he didn't catch a fish this tournament.   Lucky for him Bill decided to get out of the race and bring his boat as Bill jumped ahead of him.  Silver position....(2nd place COA) we bring up Frank Kelly into the mix 8 points behind Matt.  Currently holding the Bronze position is Jim Bailey just one point back.

Slammer Nominee's

We'll have to ask Jeff what the story is about his truck not starting to see if he can be added to the Nominee list.

Could Bill find his name on this list again....seems after deciding to bring his boat giving up the race for COA of the Year Bill had a flat tire on his boat trailer on the way to the convoy meeting place.
