Minutes of the Meeting:

The May meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 P.M by our President John Buck. We had 20 members present.

Old Business:

Jeff always gets us started with a little humor. We really appreciate your efforts in lightening the mood of the meetings.

Minutes from last meeting was read and accepted. As mention in previous meetings the readings of the minutes are not going to be waived. It's an important reminder of the business conducted by the club.
The treasury report was also read and accepted by the membership.

Booray Report: Was won by Jere Jaillite for his 6.02 pound Hawg caught at Miller's Ferry during the May Tournament. So the pot rolls over with $2 per person being added each month until the next fish over 5 lbs during a tournament is caught. If you are not yet participating in this fun pot then now is the time to get in before the start of the June tournament. See Bill Myrick for details.

50/50 draw was conducted and won by John Buck.

New Business:

The State has started construction on the Perdido river boat ramp.  They expected it to be done by September.  Contact Bill Myrick for more information.

A discussion was conducted on an invasive species of fish called the Lion Fish.  They are invading the local waters and if you happen to catch one be careful they are poisonous if you get stung by them.  Use very warm water to relieve the pain and swelling.  Contact the Escambia County authorities with location to report any catches.

From the Tournament Director:

The water is starting to warm up so lets be mindful of your fish in the livewell.  We need to try and return every fish unharmed.

There was going to be a big tournament at Roland Cooper's Landing so watch out for boats sitting by the entrance as you blast off in the morning.

Payouts for given for Last Month.

Lets talk insurance.   It is every boaters responsiblility to have a current boat insurance policy on file with the Tournament and Assistant Tournament director.  By our rules if it's not current your boat cannot be used in a club tournament.

Watch your partners for signs of Heat Stress and Heat Stroke.  The weather's heating up.

Alabama is looking at closing down some parks that arn't self supporting.  Check the Alabama Parks department before you go.

Meeting adjourned at 7:41pm.

Mack Cramer's "From the Tackle Box for May"

The dog days of summer are fast approaching and it brings to mind 2 things Hot and Very Hot. With the hot weather come sun burns and the possibility of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Make sure that before heading out that you use plenty of sun screen and drink plenty of water on Friday the hydrate yourself, we don’t need any 911 calls on the water.

June finds us heading for the Tensaw River out of Live Oak Landing.” WITH A 2 PM WEIGH IN”. So make sure you adjust your alarm on your GPS to remind you at 1:30 PM you have 30 minutes. Some of you will head up river and some will head down river. For those of you headed north keep in mind that crank baits and spinner baits do well in the moving water (current). I like the craw fish colored crank baits myself and of course the white spinner bait. Plastics can also be productive along with top water early. Moving south you encounter a slightly different mode of fishing. A more distinctive tidal effect on the fish. Outgoing tides seem to be the more productive than incoming but when sitting on a sand bar incoming is better. Now for me I like going to the grass to fish, here I can also throw the DOA shrimp along with plastics and spinner baits. What direction you go and what you fish with will at the end of the day reveal whether or not you made the correct decision.  I any event good luck be careful and remember respect where others are fishing.

Miller's Ferry Tournament:

The May Tournament was a one day event held at Miller's Ferry out of Ellis Landing.  Most of us went Friday and prefished for the Saturday tournment.  Some of us made more than one trip up there.  The weather was great with temps reaching up into the high 80's.  Even the Damn was generating 2 units from 8am-4pm  during the tournament.  We even had a good turn-out with 20 members fishing.

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Mack Cramer

Mack brought in a nice limit of fish weighing in at 12.85 anchored by a 3.97 kicker.  This is Mack's 2nd win this season.  He now is "tied" with Lee for the AOY.
Great Job!

Congrats Mack!

2nd Place
Buddy Yates

Taking second place is none other than Buddy Yates.  His limit of 5 fish weighed in at 10.39 pounds.  His kicker fish tipped the scales at 2.98 pounds.  Buddy's taken our money before.  This is his 3rd showing in the money spots.  Buddy moves up two spots in the AOY race to sit at 7th.  Just one point out of the Top Six.

Great Job!

Congratulations Buddy!

3rd Place
Jere Jaillite

Jere only caught 4 fish but one of them was a brute.  His 4 fish weighed in at 9.70 pounds.  HIs kicker was huge!   A 6.02 pound Hawg.   This is Jere's 2nd time this season in the money.

Great Job!

Congratulations Jere!

4th Place
Lee Brannon

For the forth time this season we have Lee in the Money spots.  Lee's 5 fish limit of 9.32 pounds was good enough for 4th place.  His kicker tipped the scales at 3.4 pounds.

Great Job!

Congratulations Lee!

AOY Analysis

This month once again we had 9 meber advance and 9 decline in the Yearly standings.  Biggest mover up was Bob Jones who finished 5th during the tournament.  Biggest thing that happened this month is Mack has now caught up to Lee points wise however Lee has 5 more keeper fish on Mack.  3 place is now being held by our CoAngler of the Year points leader Matt Brown.  He's on fire this year.  Matt had a limit of fish this tournament too for 6.33 pounds.  Bill Myrick managed to stay in the 4th place position and is only 1 point behind 3rd.  Dropping down to 5th is Jeff Weaver who struggled this tournament.  After finding out his boat didn't want to play right he ended up fishing behind Lee in Lee's boat.  Rounding out the top 6 is Cliff Armstrong.  He caught 4 fish weighing 4.79 pounds to maintain his 6th place position.

CO-AOY Analysis:

On the Co-Angler of the Year side of things Matt is going strong and still commands a 15 point lead.

Dave Dyess remains in the Silver position while Bob Jones gets his turn in the Bronze position.  Bob only weighed in 3 fish this time but they were nice.  His total weight was 8.12 pounds.

Booray Winner!

Jere brought up to the scales a bute the weighed in at 6.02 pounds which took big fish of the tournament.  In addition his fish was over 5 pounds and the largest caught during the tournament so he also takes the Booray Money.

Congrats Jere!

Not to go unnoticed but did you know we had another fish weighed in over 5 pounds?  Yep Bob Jones brought a 5.3 pound beauty to the scales.  Here she is:

Nice Fish Bob!
