Minutes of the Meeting:

The November meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 P.M by our new E-board members.  Buddy Yates - Vice President assuming the presidential duties as John Buck was out hunting for his own dinner instead of enjoying the fine food at Founaris Brothers Restaurant.

There were 25 members present with no guests.  Last months guest Chris Robey started his pilot training at the base and has decided as much as he would of liked to fish with us...his career as a Naval Pilot needed to come first.  We wish him the best of luck.

Old Business:

Buddy started us off with a little humor about an old Marine Gunnery Sergeant.   Gotta love them Marines.

The minutes of last month was read and accepted by the membership.

The treasury report was also read and accepted by the membership.  An Audit of the books was conducted prior to the start of the new year per our constitution.

Booray Report:  We have 21 members eligible for pot which keeps growing at a rate of $42 a month until someone catches the largest fish over 5 pounds in a club tournament.  See Bill Myrick for details.

Good news Bill Myrick has been cleared for more fishing by his doctor.

Annual Year End Banquet

Our annual year end Banquet is coming up soon.  It's set for Friday December 5th at 6:00pm.

Location this year is the Sonny's BBQ at 630 N Navy Blvd in Pensacola.   The price is going to work out to $15 a person which includes a 3 meat buffet style meal including soft drinks/tea and gratuity.  If you want the hard stuff you'll have to pay extra.  Right now we have a head count of 40 people and if it changes you need to contact Kevin Simmons to adjust the numbers because he'll be paying for us ahead of time.  Should be a good time had by all.

New Business:

The 50/50 drawing was conducted and Frank Kelly was the lucky winner.  Remember guys the money collected by the 50/50 the club uses to buy food at the weekend tournaments.  If you want to eat as good as last year you need to step it up a notch.   The Pot was a little light this time.

The phone list was passed around to be updated.....be sure to get with Jere Jaillite if your points of contact change through the year so he can keep it updated.   Thanks Jere.

The 2015 E-board met prior to the November meeting and selected tournament sites based on inputs from the membership.  Thanks Mack for furnishing the great meal we devoured while making them all important decision on where the club should fish this year.  And thanks to again to Jere for compiling the sites we selected and getting them printed on one easy to read form.

Payouts for the October Fish Off and Club tournament were handed out to those earning members and the draw was conducted for the November tournament.

For some reason we didn't have a lot of boaters willing to go and take their boats this time which put us in a situation where we almost left someone on the beach.  But, through our Tournament Director's excellent wisdom he worked it out so everyone who wanted to fish could.

Now would be a good time to mention...if you have a boat....and would ever like to use it in a club tournament....get your insurance paperwork to the Assistant Tournament Director ASAP.   Sure make things easier in the future.  We are a club of rules and we need to follow them.

The Meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm.

From the tournament Director:

Mack circulated his list of emergency contacts for everyone to update along with your Birthday months.  In our club....birthdays are treated more like milestones.....

All the motels reservations are made for the two day tournaments for the rest of the year.  If you plan on going up and staying on Thursdays then contact Mack and he will contact the motels for you.  Mack has now officially become our Travel Agent in Charge for all tournament sites.

Our year end Fish-Off is going to be at Eufula this year and we have reserved all the cabins available.  21 beds total of which 1/2 of the payment will be required by August for the October tournament.  We have some time...but make your plans now to go as it promises to be a great time had by all.  In true Hawg Hunter style.  More to come as we get closer but each bunk will cost about $37 for the 2 day tournament.

Mack wants to try and liven things up during the draw so the last boater drawn out during an uneven draw is not necessarily fishing by himself.  To do this, in the event of uneven boater/non-boater numbers, a blank chip will be placed in the non-boater bucket prior to the start of the draw.  Any boater drawing out the blank chip will be the angler fishing by himself.  This could possibly lead to even Mack fishing by himself as per our tournament rules the Tournament Director draws a non-boater first.  We didn't get to try it out this month because the numbers ended up being even.

Another item discussed was the addition of a Co-Angler Award Category for the Year End Standings.  In hopes of getting our Co-anglers to participate more.  Last year we paired up boaters numerous times especially on our out of town tournaments.  How this one will go is everyone is eligible for Co-Angler status until they declare themselves as a boater before the start of the tournament draw.  There will be no extra points awarded or anything else special to be done....except tracking by our secretary on the standings page.  (Thanks Mack)  The winner will be the highest finishing Co-angler points wise after the 12 tournaments fished in the 2015 season.

Also discussed at the meeting were various Tournament Rules including 6A, 15-4, 17, 18 and 23.  If you are not familiar with our rules be sure to read them over again.  You wouldn't want to be caught violating any of them as they promote good sportsmanship.

Tournament:

The November Tournament was a one day event held at Claiborne Lake nearby Camden, Alabama.  That's the lake just downstream of the dam at Miller's Ferry on the Alabama River system.  In fact most of us used the same motel Southern Inn to stay over the night before the tournament.  I kept my door closed this time as to not invite any furry little creatures to spend the night with me.

At the tournament we had 11 people fishing out of 6 boats.  Not a very good showing for the start of the year.  But those who went had a great time and none of us had to get towed up the steep leafy ramp.  In fact all of us caught fish on tournament day with some catching a lot of fish on pre-fish day too.  The weather was great too.   Warming trend after very low temps at the start of the week.  Even the rain held off until the drive home.  Everyone who went started out in First Place but after the weigh-in only one could remain there. And his name was:

Tournament Results:

1st Place

Bill Myrick

Bill is the only one who didn't drop in the standings as his 5 fish limit weighing 8.79 pounds was enough to maintain his First Place standing.  As Bill went as a Co-Angler he is now currently leading both the AOY and the Co-Angler of the Year races.  Bill did a great job pulling this one out as when he and his partner started out the morning they found their spot occupied by another boater.  Had the tables been turned I'm not sure what I would of done as that was my only game plan.  Bill if you would of asked...we would of let you "play thru" as our fish were supposed to of been at the mouth of the creek.  But Great job recovering and winning the tournament!

 Congrats Bill!

2nd Place
Dave Bock

Dave weighed in a limit of fish totaling 8.72 pounds...just .07 pounds behind 1st place.  I caught my fish on a KVD Sexy Shad 6xd crank bait, a KVD Sexy Shad Spinner bait and a June bug worm.  The worm fish was on the last cast just before packing up and heading to weigh-in.   Nice 2-1/2 lb fish.

Never Give Up!

This 2nd place finish puts Dave at the head of the Boater's Division....if we had one...haha.  Be sure to check out the tournament pics to see the fish Dave caught on Pre-fish day.  One of them could of taken the Booray except Dave is always a day late/early and a dollar short.

Great Job Dave!

Congrats Dave!

3rd Place
Lee Brannon

Lee also brought a limit of fish to the scales.  His weight of keepers was 5.98 pounds.  Rumor has it he was worming and caught two of them in one tree on back to back casts.  Obviously this also puts Lee in 3rd place for the AOY standings with only one tournament fished.  But the way things went last year....better to stay in the Top Six than try to climb up to the Top Six.

   Great Job!

Congrats Lee!

4th Place
Matt Brown

In 4th place is the guy we almost left on the beach if not for some ingenious thinking on the part of our Tournament Director to get him included legally.  Matt brought to the scales 3 fish totaling 5.74 pounds including the 3.38 pound spot shown here.  This puts Matt in Second place for Co-Angler of the Year and 4th place for AOY.

Great Job!

Congratulations Matt!

From the Tackle Box...

It’s December and that means a few things to the Hawgs.
1.    Santa Clause will be coming to see us and hopefully he will bring that new rod or reel you have been wanting.
2.    Our banquet is Friday December  5th and
3.    The club meeting is December 10th and the Tournament is the 13th
We are fishing the mighty “Escambia River” hold on a minute I gotta stop choking. The mighty Escambia River C’mon Man be for real. But yes that is where the tournament will be held. We are scheduled to launch out of Swamp House but they are still having some issues with their road so we will move across the street to Old Smiths landing. It appears that the tide will be going out and will be low at 11:12 am. For me I like fishing an outgoing tide, I find that the fish are more active (by that I mean feeding) in falling water rather than rising water. Having said that I like to fish moving baits such as spinner baits and DOA’s but fish them slowly let the water move your bait you just reel just enough to keep the blades turning, The same with a crank bait, pull it down , stop let it drift a little and pull it down again. Remember the water temp. will be much cooler and bass get a little sluggish so don’t fish too fast. Don’t forget to throw Jeff’s favorite black worm. Location Location Location, where do you go, Well Escambia basically officers 3 types of fishing much like Tensaw. You have the grass which can be very productive, remember in the grass try and match what is there for the fish to eat, shrimp, crabs, eels and crawfish.  Then you have the middle of Escambia with Lakes and creeks, Basic River fishing with worms and crank baits. Then my favorite, up the Escambia in the fast water. Difficult to fish but can be very productive with spinner baits. Whichever you choose I hope that some of my tips will help you and remember be safe on the water and respect where others are fishing.

AOY Analysis

Wow! We are off to a great start!  We have a Co-Angler Bill Myrick leading the pack. Followed by Dave Bock by just one point who finished just .07 pounds behind.  Bet you he wished he didn't shake off them two other keepers at the boat.  Then there's Lee Brannon just 1 point behind them with a fairly new person to the Top Six of Matt Brown...who by the way also won the golf ball draw at the ramp.   Good job Matt.  In 5th place we have Mack who tends to stay in the Top Six all year and another Co-Angler of Dave Dyess rounding off the Top Six.

Slammer Nominee's

If you see something that just doesn't seem right or see someone doing something so stupid it's hilarious then you may just have witnessed a Slammer Nominee!  Be sure to get it on record by telling our Club Scribe.

Reminder

The December Tournament is moved up one earlier due to the Christmas Holidays.  The meeting will be Wednesday Dec. 10 and with us fishing on Saturday December 13. Don't miss another great opportunity to enjoy Club camaraderie and catch fish!
