Minutes of the Meeting:

The October meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 21st of October by our President John Buck. We had a big meeting with 27 members present and 1 guest returning Elania Silvania daughter of club member Carlito.

Old Business:

Minutes from last meeting was read and accepted.

The treasury report was read by Buddy Yates and accepted by the membership.

Booray Report: The Booray was won last month by Bob Jones so we started over with $42 in the pot.  It was won again this month at Lake Eufuala by Matt Brown.  If you haven't gotten yourself in it yet....now is the time.  It's only $2 a month paid up front at the start of the new season which is coming up in November.  Bring your money to the meeting. See Bill Myrick for details.

50/50 draw was conducted and won by Frank Kelly. The money collected goes toward our great cookouts we have so please participate in the 50/50.   Only $2 a ticket or 3 for $5.

A uniamous vote was conducted for our new/old Club Officers.  Here's the E-board for the 2016 season:

President : John Buck
Vice President/Treasurer : Buddy Yates
Tournament Director : Mack Cramer
Asst. Tournement Director : Matt Brown
Secretary/Web-master : Dave Bock

Perdido Boat Ramp - A ribbon cutting ceremony will be conducted Thanksgiving weekend for the new Perdido Boat Ramp.  See Bill Myrick for more details and be sure to wear you shirt to represent if you go there.

New Business:

Awards Banquet is set for Friday December 18th.  It's going to be at Sonny's Barbeque at 6:00pm.  Your spouse is invited and we will need to get an accurate head count at the November of those who plan on attending.  Should be a good time had by all and great food.

Voting for the proposed 2016 rule changes was conducted and the results are posted here.  Some passed some didn't.   We had 17 voting members.  Remember is you want to vote for changes next year you have to have fished 6 tournaments prior to the October meeting.

Proposed Rule Changes:

2016 Proposed Hawg Hunter Rule Changes

So in a nut shell here's what we did.   We took 3 hours away from the June, July and August tournaments by making the weighin time eariler to 1pm.

Mack's idea of the fish off being held on Friday and Saturday actually failed.  It was brought to our attention (E-board) that we actually needed 12 out of 17 votes for any vote to pass to maintain the 2/3's vote by our constitution.  Using 11 out of 17 does not push you over the 66% as required for 2/3's vote.  So we will keep the Annual Fish Off on the normal Saturday 4:00pm and the Sunday 1:00pm schedule.

We also kept our one tournament per month format and said you "Have To Cull" once you caught your sixth fish or face disqualification.  In addition we will no longer give half points away for ties....if you tie (which will be a rare condition because now big fish breaks ties) you each will get full points for that place and we'll skip a place to the next points position during the tournament.  The year end standings tie breakers will remain the same with - most legal fish then most live fish then heaviest stringer.   We also kept our pairings for the draw.  Boaters will be paired with boaters if you don't have enough co-anglers...just like in the past.

Steak Cookout - Our Annual President's Steak Dinner  during the October Fish Off was a great sucess.  Especially if you can get the President to cook the steaks which we did.  Great Job John on the cooking.  Also great job to Dave Dyess on selecting the best cuts of meat and a tip of the hat to the rest of the crew who helped make it a memorable meal.    Let's not to forget a shout out to Brenda Weaver for the outstanding bannana pudding and brownies.  Always a great treat for the club.  Thanks!

A discussion was proposed to discuss split tournament sites on the schedule.   Seems most of the club is not in favor of them anymore and the e-board will take it under advisement when they meet to discuss the schedule.

A motion was made and passed to keep the Co-angler of the year Award going for one more year until former changes can be made in our rules and by-laws.

From the Treasurer

Annual Dues

Per our Constitution Section 4a. Dues are due and payable at the October Meeting for the following year.  Any member that hasn't paid his dues by the November meeting will be removed from membership and must re-apply and fish a guest tournament."  Active member dues are $40.

From the Tournament Director:

Dead fish.   Way too many dead fish last tournament.  A Lively discussion was presented to the members on ways to keep them alive.

Payouts were given for last month and the draw was conducted for the September split tournamet at Lay Lake and Lake Mitchell.

Meeting adjourned at 8:34pm.

Mack Cramer's "From the Tackle Box for November"

Was Eufaula tough or what? But still in all everyone had a good time, I have to commend everyone there were NO DEAD FISH, Yea. The cookout was perfect John did an excellent job with the steaks, and thanks to everyone who had a hand in making it possible, also congrats to Roger Helm for winning our Fall Classic. Unfortunately we did have some sad news, fellow Hawg Hunter Billy Myrick suffered a mild stroke and had to be transported to the hospital, he is at home now and as always Billy would love to hear from the Hawgs. Now let’s change gears and talk about our upcoming tournament at Claiborne out of Isaac Creek Landing, hopefully the river will have time to calm down after all this rain we got. The key for a good bag is for the water to be moving, that really turns the fish on, when this is happening crank baits, rattle traps and spinner baits can be very productive and of course the ole trusty worm the color is of your personal taste as long as it’s dark, hint hint. If anyone is interested in going up Friday let me know, I will probably stay in Monroeville. We have a new assistant tournament director Matt Brown so everyone relax I will have him whipped into shape before you know it. Plus the weigh-ins have been going rather smoothly thanks for making that happen. I want to remind everyone to check your safety equipment and make sure it’s up to stuff, we don’t need any DQs. Have a great 2016 fishing year and don’t forget your dues ($40.00) are due at the November meeting. Remember to be safe on the water and respect where others are fishing.

Our birthday boys for November are:

 Tournament:

The October Fish Off Tournament was held way over  by the Georgia/Alabama state line at a place called Lake Eufuala.  Great looking place where we stayed in  3 and 6 man cabins for the two day tournament.  The accommendations were nice if you were lucky enough to get the one king/queen size bed that was in each cabin.  The drive wasn't too bad....straight east on Hwy 10 then state road 431 north thru Dothan to the town of Lake Eufuala.  A shame we weren't there during the April Eufuala Pilgrimage were they open up their old mansion style homes with all their southern hospitality.  Fishing might have been better in April too....

For the tournament we had 9 boats carrying 17 anglers but Bill Myrick had some medical issues so he didn't stay and fish with us.  Bill....your health is more important than any tournment we fish.  Glad to see you are doing better cause we hope to see you on the water again fishing with us soon.

Okay on to the results:

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Roger Helm

Roger Helm once again took the winners circle as he was the only one to bring a limit of fish to the scales during either day of the 2 day tournament.  His limit on Saturday was 9.26 pounds and on Sunday he added only 2 fish on Sunday.  But that was good enough to keep the lead with his winning weight of 12.77 pounds.
Roger only fished 3 tournaments with us this past season but he was in the money all 3 times.   A 3rd place April then two 1st place finishes in September and October.  Definitely a great return of investment on you dues for the 2015 season.

 Great Job!

Congrats Roger!

2nd Place
Lee Brannon

Lee finishes his season with another 2nd place notch in his belt.  Over the two day tournament he brought in 5 fish weighing 10.94 lbs.  Lee was in the money quite a bit this year.  He had two-1st place, two-2nd place, two -3rd Place, and 1-4th place finishes this year.

Great Job!

Congratulations Lee!

3rd Place
Matt Brown

Matt once again this season claims a 3rd place finish.  His 2 fish he caught tipped the scales at 7.50 pounds.  Matt's kicker fish was a Hawg weighing 5.44 pounds.  Who'd of thought you could place with only 2 fish during a 2 day tournament but Matt pulled it off.  Matt ended the season with two-3rd place and 1-4th place finishes.

Great Job!

Congratulations Matt!

4th Place
Mack Cramer

Mack rounds out our top 4, with 4 fish weighing 7.15 pounds for the 2 day tournament.  Mack had a good year not catching fish in each of the 12 tournaments he fished.  He had 3-1st place, 2-2nd place, and 1-4th place finishes this season.

Great Job!

Congratulations Mack!

AOY Analysis

Well the last tournament of the season is in the record books and it came down to the wire but we have a winner!   It's Mack Cramer by a nose....or 1 point that is.  He needed to beat Lee in the tournament or not let Lee finish 3 places higher in order to win.  And that's what happened...Lee finished 2nd and Mack finished 4th. just 2 places behind making Mack the winner of the coveted "Angler of the Year" for the 2015 season.  Great job Mack.   Also great job to Lee keeping the pressure on him all season.

If you haven't figured it out yet Lee places Second in the AOY standings by only 1 point.  Too bad Mack wore his Hat & Shirt all season.

Our 3rd place finisher goes to Jeff Weaver who finished the season with 171 points a whole 11 points ahead of 4th.  Jeff had a good year catching fish in all 11 tournaments he fished.  Placing 5 times in the money with 2-2nd place, 2-3rd place and 1-4th place finishes.  Way to go Jeff!

4th place in the AOY standings is a Co-Angler Matt Brown with 160 points.  He caught fish in 10 out of the 11 tournaments he fished.  Funny he started the season in 4th place and ended the season in 4th place.  Good job Matt!

5th place goes to John Buck just 2.5 points behind with a total of 157.5 points.  John had a good year too being 4 times in the money during the 11 tournaments he fished.  Having one-1st place, two-2nd place, and one-4th place finishes this season.  He caught fish in 10 out of 11 tournaments also.

Rounding our out Top Six even though he didn't fish the last tournament with us is Bill Myrick with 155 points.  Bill also caught fish in 10 out of 11 tournaments fished and placed twice in the money....a 1st place finish and a 4th.

All Hail the "Top Six"!

CO-AOY Analysis:

Well last month we already crowned Matt Brown the "Co-angler of the Year" but he continued to impress by pulling off a 3rd place finish in the Fish Off with only 2 fish.  Of course catching a 5.44 pound Hawg certainly helped out.  Matt ended up with a whopping 38 point lead over the 2nd place Co-AOY.

This years 2nd place Co-AOY went to "Big Fish Bob" Jones who ended the season with 122 points.  Bob placed twice in the money a 3rd place in February and a 4th place in August.  How he got his "Big Fish Bob" name was he took big fish in 3 of the 9 tournaments he fished this season.  A 2.48 lb in February, a 4.56 in August and a 6.58 in September.   Gaining 2 pounds each time.  Also we need to mention that in May, Bob had a 5.3 pound brute but lost Big Fish honors to a Jere Jailite caught 6.02 lb fish.

3rd place Co-AOY honors goes to Jim Bailey Sr. with 93 points.  Jim only fished 6 tournaments this year but he caught at least 1 fish in every one.  Better than the rest of the Non-boater/Co-Angler pack.  Good job Jim!

Booray Winner!

We had another Booray winner this tournament.  This one was caught by our very own "Co-Angler of the Year" Matt Brown.  He tipped the scales at 5.44 pounds...the fish that is...not Matt.  So the pot rolls over once again to be won by the next 5 pound fish caught in a Hawg Hunter tournament.

Yellow Ball Winner

We have a winner of the golf ball draw!  "Big Fish " Bob!  Should of been a good size pot because is hasn't been won in a while.  He's just got that magic touch...able to catch big fish and pull the yellow ball!  Talk at the dinner Saturday night was he also has actually been with the person who received the Slammer Award when they were nominated.

Slammer nominee

Speaking of Slammer Award nominee's we have another one this month.   This time our very own Tournament Director who launched out Saturday only to find himself running aground in his big bad ass Ranger.  At least the water was only ankle deep so they didn't get too wet when they got out to push.  I understand it took them a whole hour and a half to get the bottom to release the boat.

Guess we should mention another member who didn't pay attention to the size limit restrictions on Lake Eufuala.  No...he didn't get disqualified or a ticket for undersize fish....he...being Buddy Yates was throwing away 14 and a half inch fish because he thought it was a 15" inch minumium instead of 14".   In addition he just might have thrown away some spotted bass even though they only had to be 12 inches.   Mack end up training him on the major differences between Largemouth and spotted bass during saturdays weigh-in when there we examples to be weighed by other members.

Good Samaritain Award of the Month

This month I'd like to Award the Good Samaritain of the Month to John Buck who took care of one of our own in his need for medical attention. John ensured Bill made it back to the ramp to get checked out by parametics and also drove him halfway back to Pensacola during the tournament hours.

Do you know what to do if your partner is having a stroke or heart attack?
