Minutes of the Meeting:
The April meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 20th of April at Founaris Bros.
Greek Restaurant by our President
John Buck. We had 22 members present and 3 guests. Jason Weaver, Susan
Smith and a old/new prospective member Brian Nall.
Old Business:
Minutes from the last meeting was read and accepted.
The
treasury report was read and accepted.
The 50/50 draw was conducted and won by Carlito Silvania.
Booray Report: The Booray pot was awarded to Don Jahnke for his 8.42 lb
Hawg he caught at Lake Seminole. So once again the pot starts over with
23 members paid up to date. The weight goes up again to 5.0 lbs in
order to
win. See Buddy for details.
Unaminous vote was conducted to add Herman Allday to the club.
Hooyah! Welcome Herman you met the age requirement....lol
The recommendation to have all new prospective members fish with the
Tournament Director was brought discussed by the e-board prior to the
meeting and it didn't pass. So things will stay the same for now. If
you sponsor someone just make sure they know what they are getting into
including the rules of the club.
It was suggested by the members that we stay at Seminole Lodge next
year for our Lake Seminole Tournament.
Reminder that if you signed up for duties at the cook outs to be sure
and full-fill them in order to have a great time. Club participation is
what makes all this fun for all of us.
New Business:
There was no new business to discuss this month.
From the Tournament Director:
Don Jahnke will be acting tournament Director for the Miller's Ferry
Tournament in May.
Payouts were given for the March tournament. Congrats to all those
who received a payout!
The draw was conducted for the April tournament.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:39pm.
Dave's Maintenance Corner
As some of you at the tournament know I, Dave
Bock, came up
on Friday with the club to fish but not as part of the tournament.
Seems the job I took so I could have money to fish is severely
impacting the time I have to fish. I now work nights from 2:30 to
11:00pm
Sunday through Thursdayand with me just starting out I have no vacation
time on the books yet to fish the two day tournaments.
Anyway I fished some on Friday and while I was running to another spot
south of Bonner's landing my motor shut down on me and when I restarted
the motor it had a loud deep rattle. I shut it down and used the
trolling motor to get back. Up at the motel I pulled the plugs out and
the #6 was coated with aluminium indicating I'd blown a piston. Here's
a picture of the plugs.

Removing the prop and thrust washer in the exhaust chamber I found
this....

They are pieces of the piston, needle bearings and wrist pin washer.
Removing the carbs and intake manifold I found this....

More needle bearings and pieces of the piston
Removing the head I found this.....
Click to picture to enlarge
Definitely a burned up and overheated piston.
Opening up the crankcase and removing the damaged piston and bent
connecting rod......

Inside I also found
more needle bearings and the cylinder wall sleeve broken out by the
ports.

And on to the casue of the problem.....a failed plastic $60 oil drive
gear
ring that had a sheared bolt causing the ring come lose from the
crankshaft.

Mostly like when happened when I hit that log
at Clairborne at the begining
of the season. Without oil....friction tends to heat things
up and sooner or later something is going to give.
The good news is the machine shop says they can put a new sleeve into
the
block so I'm going to use my VA training that I recently
received at George Stone and completely rebuild it.
Guess that's why I now have a job...to pay for it!
Hooyah!
Tournament:
The
April Tournament was held at Lake Jordan where we had 15 members and
1 guest Brian Nall fishing. We had 8 boats for the 2-day tournament.
.....and the winner is......
Tournament Results:
1st Place
John Buck
John had two great days of fishing. His first day total of
14.48 pounds coupled with his second day of 12.76 pounds gave
him a
total weight of 27.24 pounds for his 10 fish. John led the
tournament on day one and did something we rarely he didn't choke and
led us all on day two also. Oh!..and he did all this from the
back seat of Tony's boat! Way to go John!
Great Job!
Congrats John!
2nd Place
Tony Boyett
Tony caught 9 fish weighing 21.84 pounds over the 2-day tournament.
Doing the math that means Tony's boat held over 49 pounds of
fish for the weekend. I'd say they were on fish and must of
had a great time. Beating Jeff and Matt's boat total of 45
pounds last month at Lake Seminole.
Awesome!
Great Job!
Congratulations Tony!
3rd Place
Lee Brannon
Lee caught double limits during the two day tournament and finished in
3rd with 20.93 pounds. On Sunday he found a lunker to win big
fish money with a 4.09 pound brute.
Great Job!
Congratulations Lee!
4th Place
Matt Brown
Matt makes it in the money again!. We better watch out for
this up and coming Hawg Hunter. His 2 day total of 10 fish
weighed in at 19.28 pounds. He's also steadily climbing the
leader board for AOY.
Great Job!
Congratulations Matt!
AOY Analysis
Here we are at the half way mark with 6 tournament down and 6 more to
go....Who will be this years AOY is anybody's guess but one thing is
for sure you can't afford to miss tournaments and expect to get there.
Currently we have a tie for the number one spot.
Last Month's leader Mack is now joined by Jeff who has
managed to catch up to him in points even though Jeff has missed one
tournament this year. I have it on good authority that Mack
will be missing the May tournament so it gives Jeff a great oppurtunity
to zoom past him if he does well at Miller's Ferry.
In 3rd place just 8 points behind is John Buck who jumps up from 4th
last month due to his win at Jordan. John now has one win
and two 2nd place finishes out of the 5 tournaments
he's fished this season.
Jere drops down to 4th this month after a dismal showing on the
tournament but I will say he's a hero in my book. He
took care of his non-boater Ron Bridges who had medical
problem. They both ended up going home early on Sunday.
Jere's a true Sportsman for giving up what he did to help a
fellow Hawg Hunter.
Jumping up from 9th place to 5th is our very own 2015 Co-Angler of the
Year, Matt Brown. He's becoming a force to be reckoned with.
Hooyah!
Tied with Matt in 5th place is Pete Potter who jumps
up from 8th last month. Pete's been in the
money slots twice this year. Great job Pete!
CO-AOY Analysis:
Our top 3 Co-Angler's have been duking it out. Well not
really when you look at their points...but it sounded good.
Carlito's holding on to the top spot with 77 points while
Cliff Armstrong is just 15 points behind in the second spot.
Moving up to 3rd is Dave Dyess trailing second place by 19
points. Pretty big gaps to overcome but one this is for
sure...you have to fish to get points.
Good Samaritan Award
I nominate Jere Jaillite for his sacrifice and caring by helping Ron
make it home safely early Sunday moring during the tournament.
Turns out Ron had Pneuumonia and everybody knows that at our
age it could become deadly. Ron we hope you are getting
better. Good job Jere!
