Minutes of the Meeting:
The August meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 17th of August at Founaris Bros.
Greek Restaurant by our President
John Buck. We had 24 members and one guest, Tony's wife Brenda.
Old Business:
The minutes from the last
meeting were read and accepted.
The
treasury report was read and accepted.
Booray Report: The pot is now up to $256 now for a 5
pound fish brought to the scales. See Buddy for details.
50/50 was won by Don Jahnke.
John pointed out that we need to keep our thoughts and prayers going
for Ron Bridges as he battles his medical condition. Also to
give Ron a call with your well wishes. He's not getting any
younger or prettier.
In Memory...We lost one of our Lifetime members this past month. Jim
Bailey Sr. He was a great friend and mentor to all of us. He was truly
responsible for bringing the club into the 21st century by developing a
web page for the club.
Pensacola News Journal
Obituary for Jim
Our Hat & Shirt Committee Chairman Jeff Weaver
mentioned he is
having problems getting new shirts made for our new club members.
Anyone have any ideas contact Jeff.

Tournament Director position.
Gentlemen it's time to start campaigning!
(Ad space for a small fee will be available in the next
issue of the Newsletter)
A
very lively discussion of the Co-Angler of the Year award was held with
most of the boaters having their say. A proposal was drafted
in
time to be included in the 2017 changes to be discussed in September
and voted on in October.
New Business:
September's Cookout promises to be a great one. Lee has
graciously volunteed his time and energy to create a mouth watering,
finger linking good time for our annual Mullet fish fry complete with
deep fried Mullet backs...a Hawg Hunter tradition. All you
have
to do is show up during our September tournament at Lake
Mitchell.
From the Tournament Director:
Remember your Alabama Fishing license is about to expire at the end of
the August. Beginning Monday the 22nd you can buy your
license on
line for the 2016-2017 fishing season.

your Alabama Fishing License here
New fishing regulations took place 1 July 2016 in Florida.
Biggest
change is you can only keep one fish over 16 inches
unless you
are part of a tournament that has a permit.
The club has voted to apply for permits for all the Florida lakes we
will
be fishing. The Perdido River system is exempt as it borders
Alabama.
For more information on the rules see the Florida Fish
and Wildlife Conservation Commision webpage.

Payouts were given for the July tournament. Congrats to all those
who received a payout!
The draw was conducted for the August tournament.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:04pm.
Tournament:
The
August Tournament was hot one held on the Tensaw River out of Hubbard's
Landing. Our last summer time short tournament with
the
weigh-in at 1pm. We had 18 members brave enough to handle the
heat fishing our of 9 boats. A real tough tournament with
only 10
anglers catching a total of 16 fish. No one even had a limit
it
was that tough. Too add to the misery it started raining
while we
did the weigh-in...but thanks to Jeff's early moring prayer
it
cleared right up and cooled off a little so we could enjoy a meal hot
dogs, chili, chips and drinks put on by Don, Mack and Jere.
Thanks I beleive everyone got their belly full.
Tournament Results:
1st Place
Jeff Weaver
Jeff does it again! He's back in the winners circle for the
4th
time this season. Once again I got to see how he does it.
Mostly from the back of his own boat! Jeff's great decision
making skills truly accounted for this win as he gambled on making a
long 19 mile run to his not so secret spot. Can you
guess
what color worms he was throwing? Come to the meeting next
month
to find out. Anyway Jeff caught 2 nice quality fish that
tipped
the scales at 4.38 pounds. In fact one of them was the lunker
of
the tournement at 2.25 pounds earning him $90.
Way to go Jeff!
Great Job!
Congrats Jeff!
2nd Place
John Buck
John caught the most fish of anyone this time....well keeper fish that
is. He brought in 3 fish to the scales that weighed 3.83
pounds.
Good enough for 2nd Place! This is John's 3rd
second place
finish this season.
Great Job!
Congratulations John!
3rd Place
Dave Dyess
Dave Dyess is back with us from his Canada trip where catching 100 fish
a day is nothing. Compared to here I'll bet it was a long day
for
him (and Jere too)....but he did managed to keep it together and catch
2 fish that weighed in at 2.46 pounds.
Great Job....ay!
Congratulations Dave!
4th Place
Mack Cramer
Rounding our our top 4 is Mack who managed to get 2 bites for 2 keeper
fish. His fish tipped the scales to 2.41 pounds.
This is
Mack's 4th trip into the money slots this season.
Great Job!
Congratulations Mack!
Slammer Nominee:
Since you all are probaby going to vote me in for back to back slammer
awards...I would like to point out a little something that happened
during the August Tournament.
It happened in a place far, far away....at a place called Hubbards'
landing. Seems it was so far away there was enough time for
corrosion to take place.
Our Assistant Tournament Director the
infamous Matt Brown who is in no relation to famous Dr. Emit Brown who
travels Back to or from the Future drew out as a boater for the
tournament. Instead of bringing his high speed boat which travels
at a speed too fast for corrosion to set in he brings his smaller
slower Alumunim boat. Still a mighty fine rig but a little hard
to fish out of when you can't get it off the trailer. Yep that's
right try as he might Matt couldn't get the tie down strap to let go of
the boat. Seems corrosion had a good hold of it for longer than
20 minutes! Wait I'm not done.....that was just the
beginning at the weigh-in there was more to come.
So off
Matt and his partner Dave Nason who is fairly new to the club go to
fish the mighty Tensaw River out of his little boat. However he
forgot the one Golden Rule but more about that in a minute. After
a tough day where one fish could really make a difference at the scales
Matt was empty handed. But his partner Dave was all smiles as he
dumped his 1 lonely fish into the weigh-in tub. From there our
Head Tournament Director.....you know him....he takes the fish and
measures it only to find it comes up short and
disqualifies the fish from the tournament.
Talking
to Matt and Dave we find out that Matt, aka Assistant Tournament
Director forgot the Golden Rule....ruler that is! Yep he and
Dave guessed the fish would measure because they had no ruler.
Imagine that!
So yes, I'd like to Nominate Matt as a Slammer Nominee. Hooyah!
AOY Analysis
Okay the end of the season is fast approaching if you haven't noticed.
Only 2 more tournaments to go and they promise to be good
ones...not like the one we just fished at Tensaw. Remind me
why we went there.....oh yea the Hot Dog Cookout!
Looks like we had 9 members advance their standing while 14 of us
dropped. Biggest movers and shakers were Frank Kelly and Marc
Churchwell who each jumped 5 places. Of course it's easier
to move up way down at the bottom than those who claim the top spots.
Biggest way to do that is fish the tournament but these two
guys caught fish too!
On to the analysis....in First place for the AOY is Jeff Weaver who
managed to gain some ground on Second place Mack Cramer. Jeff
now stands at 183 points with Mack at 164. Thanks a 19 point
spread with only 2 tournaments to go. Since the max points
you can get next month is 24 points (2-meeting,1-hat&shirt, 6-2
day fishing points, and 15-first place finish) Jeff could possible sew
this thing up in September. If Jeff can beat Mack by 5 maybe
6 places next month he wouldn't even have to show up for the October
tournament. I'm sure Mack will do everything in his power to
try and stop that since we would like Jeff to come with us to
Appalachicola especially if he brings Brenda's brownies. I
guess we are just gonna have to fish the tournament at Lake Mitchell in
September to see the drama unfold. Will Jeff sew it up?
or will Mack make Jeff prospone it for even greater drama at
the Fish Off in October.
The real fight that we won't know until the last day of the season is
what's happening between 3rd, 4th and 5th place. They are 18
points behind Second place but bunched up nice and tight with only a 5
point spread between the three of them. Jumping up to 3rd
this month is John Buck followed by Pete Potter then Jere Jaillite.
For the last 3 months they have been changing places but
staying very close to each other. We won't be able to figure
this one out until all the fish are weighed and safely release.
Just 2 more Sunday weigh-ins to go.
26 points down the leader board is Carlito sitting solidly in 6th
Place. He's 9 points ahead of 7th place Lee Brannon.
If Carlito continues keeps it up he could find himself with a
nice pretty 6th place Plaque. I cherish mine....since it's
not easy for most of us to get there especially from the back seat like
Carlito is doing.
CO-AOY Analysis:
Well this month our top 3 co-anglers didn't change from last month
since they all showed up to the tournament scales empty handed.
Carlito is still leading the pack by 27 points and should be
able to wrap up the Co-AOY Trophy during the next tournament.
I hope he has already made plans to attend in September.
Cliff Armstrong in 2nd and Bob Jones in 3rd are too close to
call with only a 3 point difference. Every Hat &
Shirt point counts when you get this close.
