Minutes of the Meeting:
The February meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 17th of February at Founaris Bros.
Greek Restaurant by our President
John Buck. We had 25 members present and 1 guest. Carlito brought his
daughter Silvania again to keep all of us in line.
Old Business:
Minutes from the last meeting was read and accepted.
The
treasury report was read and accepted.
The 50/50 draw was conducted and won by Jeff Weaver.
Booray Report: The Booray pot is getting bigger as we continue to catch
small fish. For February it goes up to $176 for a 4 pound fish.
See Buddy for details.
Lee Brannon filled us in on the do's and dont's of how to properly
address a sand bar with your boat.
New Business:
The Perdido Ramp is now open. If only the fishing was better...I guess
we'll see in July
Mack's SuperBowl party was a great success. The club
members
who showed up really appreciated the efforts Mack went though to make
it great and memorable event.
Dave Dyess volunteered to get the Burgers and Brats for the March
Tournament at Lake Seminole.
Thanks Dave!
From the Tournament Director:
Bay City Lodge in Apalachicola is adamant about no Bass Fishermen. So
we will be staying at the El-Rancho Inn during our October Fish Off.
Cost will be $103.50 a night. If you plan on staying Thursday night
contact Mack as he will get you a room reserved.
Mack brought up a recommendation before the club whereas any new member
wishing to join the club would be required to fish his or her guest
tournament with the Tournament Director. His reasoning behind
it is to better educate the prospective new member about all the club
and tournament rules.
Payouts were given for the January tournament. Congrats to all those
who received a payout!
The draw was conducted for the February tournament where we had a
whopping 25 members who
made the commitment to fish. A little dicey on fitting everyone in a
boat but we made it work. During our "home" tournaments we need every
boat we can get as these are probably our most participated
tournaments. If only our two day tournaments were the same. They cost a
little more but you really get more bang for you buck.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:57pm.

Tournament:
The
February Tournament was held over on Fish River not to far from
Pensacola just down Hwy 98 a little ways. Air temps started in the 50's
climbing to the low 70's by weigh-in. Water temps got as high as 65
degrees in some places. The temps are warming up, the live oaks are
pollinating and the azeleas are starting to bloom definitely signs of
spring down here in the south. We had 13 boats carrying 25 Hawg Hunters.
At the weigh-in most everyone 22 out of 25 had fish with the top 4
having limits of fish. We even had 3 fish up over the 4lb Booray mark.
.....and the winner is......
Tournament Results:
1st Place
Jeff Weaver
Jeff had a great day after coming off his recent 50/50 win. His limit
of fish weighed in at 6.98 pounds.as he managed to bring in the only
limit of fish to
the scales. His 5 fish weighed in at 6.67 pounds.
This is Jeff's second win of the season. He's
fished 3 out of the first 4 tournments and has been in the Money each
time. Almost like a paid employee....
Great Job!
Congrats Jeff!
2nd Place
John Buck
John brought to the scales 5 nice looking fish that weighed in
at 6.79 lbs. This is John's second time in the second place
spot this year. The other one being Fish River also during
the December tournament. I'll bet I know where he fished as I
was with him that time. Interesting enough his partner
Carlito did real well also. I'd say John's boat won the
tournament with a 10 fish 13.44 pound double limit.
Great Job!
Congratulations John!
3rd Place
Carlito Silvania
Carlito had a good day fishing with John. His 5 fish limit
found him in the money. They weighed in at 6.65 pounds
anchored by a nice 2.55 pound fish. This is Carlito's first
trip in the money but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him.
Great Job!
Congratulations Carlito!
4th Place
Pete Potter
Rounding out the top 4 is Pete Potter who drops one spot from last
month but still manages to stay in the money. Pete also
brought in a limit of Fish River Largemouths to the scales.
His 5 fish weighed in at 6.57 pounds.
Pete's second trip this season in the money but I'm sure it
won't be his last either.
Great Job!
Congratulations Pete!
AOY Analysis
Alrighty then...after 4 tournament down and 8 to go we are still seeing
a lot of movement on the leaderboard. We had 11 members
advance their position while 14 members declined. Still a lot
of members tied in points. In fact we have 13 members tied
with at least on other person. Remember at the end of the
year those ties will be broke by who has caught the most fish
thoughout the year. Then by the largest number of live fish
(pays to not weigh in dead fish), then by the heaviest tournament
stringer of fish weighed in during the year.
Our current AOY leader after 4 tournaments is Mack Cramer with 70
points whose still ahead of the pack by 7 points. Not to far
that someone could catch him.
Climbing from 3rd to 2nd is Jeff Weaver who was 3 points behind 2nd to
now 6 points ahead of 3rd place and just 7 points behind 1st place.
Also climbing is John Buck who jumps up 2 spots to take over the 3rd
place position.
Dave Bock holds is own this tournament and remains in the 4th place
position with 54 points.
Dropping down 3 places to 5th place is Jere Jaillite who had a tough
tournament this time. His 2 fish had him way down in 16th
place this time.
Rounding out our Top Six is Pete Potter who maintained his
6th position with 50 points.
It's still anybody's game as all these spots are only decided by 2-3
points. Remember points are given for attending the meetings,
fishing the tournaments, wearing your Hat/Shirt and of course catching
fish. In other words if you don't participate you are not
going to climb the leaderboard.
CO-AOY Analysis:
We have movement in the CO-AOY spots as well. Carlito takes
over from Jim Bailey the Gold #1 Co-Angler of the year spot.
Jim falls down to the Silver #2 position while Cliff
Armstrong maintains his Bronze #3 place position.
Carlito is 8 points ahead of Jim while Cliff is only 2 points
behind Jim. Lots of fishing season left before
this one goes in the record books. Will it be your name on
the plaque?
The Real Booray Winner
Michael Johnson
4.44 pounds
***Seems Mike was entered into the booray pot. So he does get the
recognition as catching the booray fish. Now I think we should do
a slammer nomination for him forgetting that very important fact.***
Congrats Michael!
Booray Almost Winner
Dan Nash
4.39 pounds
Dan did a great job catching a fish over 4 pounds but his wasn't the
biggest fish in the tournament.
Michael Johnson's 4.44
pounder was but poor Mike wasn't entered into the Booray pot where as
Dan was entered twice! So Dan is the proud winner taking
home the bacon of the Booray pot of $176. We'll let the IRS
and the state of Alabama know for you Dan since you caught it
in your own state.
I know you were excited thinking you won the booray....but Mike
actually was entered into the pot so we'll contact the IRS for Mike on
your behalf.
We also had another booray quality fish caught by Mack Cramer.
His fish pictured here tipped the scales at 4.13 pounds.
So now according
to the Booray rules the poundage goes up to 4.5 pounds to win and the
pot drops back down. This also opens the door for new
participatants...you just might want to get in it this time as we are
going to Lake Seminole next where someone always catches a fish over
4.5 pounds.
Could it be you?
Slammer nominee
Being absent the last couple of tournaments and trying to get back into
the swing of things our very own Treasurer, Mr. Buddy Yates,
come out of the gate really swinging. Swinging mud that is.
Seems he forgot something at home and decided to turn his
Chevy fully equipped rig with Express Bass boat around on Hwy 90.
Did he remember that it rained just a day or two ago so the
shoulders were still very soft. Nope he just plowed into and
got stuck. As I drove by intending to help he was already
getting a tow from a Ford! You all remember he works for a
Chevy dealership here in town right? He made it to blast off
but never got what he intended to go back for. Bet
he won't forget it next time..... Welcome to the slammer
nominee club!
Maybe
Buddy should drive one of these......click here....
