Minutes of the Meeting:
The January meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 20th of January by our President
John Buck. We had 25 members present and 3 guests. Jason Weaver joined
us again for dinner along with 2 prospective new members. Tom Sembrot
and Herman Allday.
Old Business:
Jeff's little humor was won of his better ones this month.
Something about a Monkey and a Cue ball.
The guys were still laughing about it at the tournament.
Minutes from the last meeting was read and accepted.
The
treasury report was read by Frank Kelly as Buddy managed to get himself
sick. It was also accepted by the
membership.
50/50 draw was conducted and won by Kevin Simmons.
Probably a record high this time. Good job as now
we might be able to afford the steaks at the end of the year.
Remember the 50/50 is used to provide us meals on our 2-day
tournaments.
Booray Report: The Booray
pot is getting bigger as we continue to catch
small fish. For January it went to $132 for a 4 pound fish
but since no one caught one it will go up again. See Buddy
for details.
The club welcomed back Thom Labelle after his surgery. Nice
to see you up and about. Are you going to buy your boat back?
Kevin beware.....
A special thanks was given to Jeff Weaver and all those who helped out
with the banquet. It was a roaring success.
The Perdido boat ramp should be opened by the end of the month.
We'll wait and see. Guess the log jam is still
there though.
New Business:
It's with heavy heart that we heard of the passing of one
our past club members EW Combs. He was a club member on and
off though the years and a good friend of Mack's who used to take him
to Mexico fishing. May he rest in piece.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
He will be missed.
EW Combs
Prospective Member:
On a happier note we have a new prospective member.
Meet Tom
Sembrot.
He's twice retired and meets our minimum
age
Tom's a retired Senior Chief Yeoman (could we have a new
secretary?) then worked Civil Service before he requirement. That would be over 55....I mean 21. retired again.
He's being sponsored by Cliff Armstrong.
Tom was even brave enough to fish our January tournament as a
guest...more so as he drew out Mack.
Super Bowl Party
I guess football season
is over because Mack is once again inviting us over to his house to eat
and watch the
game. This years theme for the party is shrimp.
He's providing the food all you have to do is show up with
your
drinks and correct change if you want to get in on the numbers game we
play every year. Promises to be a good time even if you don't
know who's playing.
You can start showing up between 2:30 - 3:00pm on Super bowl Sunday
which this year is the 7th of February.
Call,
Text or Email Mack with your intentions so he can figure how much
shrimp to buy. I know I could eat about 2 dozen
myself.....Hooyah!
Cold
weather is here. Boaters make sure you have a
dry pack for
them
days you might get stuck on a sand bar and have to get out and push.
Or if someone falls in. A dry pack consists of a
change of
clothes for you and your partner. Extra food wouldn't hurt
also...right Lee and Dave?
From the Tournament Director:
Mack is still trying to talk to the owners of Bay City in
Apalachicola
but has made reservation for the El Rancho just is case we can't stay
there.
Payouts were given for the December tournamant.
The draw was conducted for the January tournament where we had 19 who
made the commitment to fish. However by the time the
tournment
rolled upon us only 16 showed up to brave the cold. Remember
is
you "call in sick" you need to let Mack the tournament director know as
soon as possible.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:43pm.
Tournament:
The
January Tournament was held on the Tensaw River in Alabama.
We
launched out of Cliff's Landing. The temperature in the
morning
was in the low 30's with a 20 mph wind. For those of you who
backed out or decided not to fish in the first place this is what it
looked like.
After being out on the water here's another view from the prospective
of those who were there.....
We
had 16 members and one guest fishing out of 9 boats.
Wouldn't be a Hawg Hunter Tournament if we didn't have a cold
front blow through the day before and leave us with cold high blue
skies.
At the weigh-in we had 12 people who found fish to bite
under those tough conditions. 27 fish got to ride
up to the
scales in style.
Okay on to the results:
Tournament Results:
1st Place
Don Jahnke
Don had a good day as he managed to bring in the only limit of fish to
the scales. His 5 fish weighed in at 6.67 pounds.
Don comes
from all the way down at the bottom last month to all the way to the
top this month. This is Don's first win this season but I
suspect
there will be more. Don jumps 10 places this month in the AOY
race where is is now in 7th place.
Great Job!
Congrats Don!
2nd Place
Jere Jaillite
Jere only managed 2 fish but there were beauties. His fish
weighed 5.03 pounds anchored by the newest Big Fish of the Year a 2.82
pound Hawg. This is Jere's second time in the money spots
this
year and now he's jumped up into 2nd place in the AOY standings after 3
tournaments.
Great Job!
Congratulations Jere!
3rd Place
Pete Potter
Pete
managed to find 4 fish in the tough conditions of couse he just moved
in from up north. His 4 fish weighed 4.80 pounds good enough
for
3rd place.
Pete jumps up 9 places in AOY Race to take on the #6
spot. This is Pete's first time in the money since he
rejoined
the club but probably won't be his last to all of our dismay as there
are only 4 spots to claim each month.
Great Job!
Congratulations Pete!
4th Place
Dave Bock
Rounding out the top 4 is Dave who brought in 3 fish
weighing 4.08 pounds. Seems his weight this
month was
exactly the same as the 3 fish he weighed in last month.
Did
anybody see Dave release his fish last month? This
is Dave's
first time this year in the money and hopefully won't be his last....as
I'm kinda partial to the guy.
Great Job!
Congratulations Dave!
AOY Analysis
Since we are early in the season there is a lot of movement on the AOY
Standings. We had 13 advance their position while 14
declined. Our best climber this month was Don Jahnke who
jumped 10 positions while Cliff Armstrong and Buddy Yates dropped 8
places due to not fishing the tournament. Once thing is for
sure you have to participate in all our club events to make youself
climb the leaderboard. Missing anything and you start your
sprial downward. With that said we have a new leader as last
months leader sat this on out. Leading the pack is Mack with
54 points. 9 points behind him is Jere Jaillite who has been
staying in the Top Six since the begining of the year.
Dropping to 3rd if Jeff Weaver just 3 points behind Jere.
Climbing to 4th is Dave Bock proof that catching fish in a
tournament helps. 4 points behind Dave is John Buck who now
holds the 5th spot and rounding out the Top Six is Pete Potter with 32
points.
CO-AOY Analysis:
Jim Bailey jumps up on the leader board 5 places to take over the top
Co-Angler of the year position as Cliff Armstrong was a no-show.
Keeping his second place Silver position is Carlito who
decided he was going to fish with us this time. and rounding
out the top three is Cliff. Lots of competion in this
category as currently we have 20 members via for the top Co-Angler of
the year spot.
Slammer nominee
Rumor has it a couple of our club members would rather spend time on
the beach than fish with us. Seems Lee and his partner Dave
Dyess were headed to Conway Creek when they decided to spend
the day
sunning themselves the bright blue bird skys on a sand bar near
the mouth of the creek. Someone should of told them it was 35
degrees out with the wind blowing from the
north up to 20mph! No worries though....Lee and
Dave are old hats at these situations and with a little digging....in
their wallets that is....managed to get up and going about 8
hours later. With that said...I'd like to nominate Lee for
the coveted Slammer Award. At least when I hit that log at
Claiborne I was able to get back on my own.
