Dave's Maintenance Corner
I'd like to take the time to point out another problem area on your
boats. Wiring. I found this on my boat after having
problems with my graph's electrical power connection. The
graph kept telling my "low voltage". Turns out I had only 10
volts going to the graph when it should of been 12 volts which is
standard on all of your electrical except your trolling motor which may
be 24 or 36 volts.
Using a tool called a Power Probe
I was able to troubleshoot the wiring
and find the culprit. The voltage drop of the 2 volts that I was
missing. This is what I found......
(click on image to make bigger)
In the power wire way up under my console I found where corrosion had
taken root. It appears sometime in the past someone had
nicked the insulation off the wire. I think it was probably
during manufacture because I bought the boat brand new and have never
been in that spot before. Most likely when someone was trying
to read voltage on the wire using a clip tool which damages the
insulation.
This wire also controlled (gave power to) my livewell pump out and
recirculate pumps which quit working on me too. The
corrosion introduces high resistance in the wire causing the
voltage to drop. In this case it was from 12 volts down to 10
volts.
Word of caution.....don't nick you wires to try and read them out and
by the way only use ABYC (American Boating & Yatch Council)
approved wiring in your boat. Marine grade wiring is tinned
and protected against the hazardous environments your boats are
operated in. DONT use automotive wiring!
Hooyah!
Tournament:
The
May Tournament was held at Miller's Ferry out of the Ellis Landing
Ramp. We had 7 boats with 14 members fishing. A
rather small tournout for Miller's Ferry. For the guys who
left early Friday moring they had to drive through the rain to get
there....for my partner and I whole left 2 hours later it was clear all
the way with no rain.
The Hawg Hunters really had a great tournament. The weights
were kinda small but everyone caught fish and plenty of them.
In fact we almost caught our club limit of 70 fish.
We were just 3 fish short of everyone having a limit for the
14 members. Someone with more time on their hands than me
should look it up and see if that's a club record. That's a
95.7 percent catch rate. I recall last April at
Jordan on the first day we caught 65 out of a possible 70 for 14
anglers for a 92.8% rate. Great job guys!
The weights were pretty close this tournament with dead fish penalities
having an impact on the placings. Please take care of your
fish.
Tournament Results:
1st Place
Jere Jaillite
Jere had a great day catching more that a limit of fish. His
top 5 fish weighed in at 10.94 pounds anchored by the Lunker of the
tournament of 3.57 pounds. This is Jere's 3 time up in the
money slots and his first win this year.
Way to go Jere!
Great Job!
Congrats Jere!
2nd Place
Michael Johnson
Michael caught a limit of fish weighing in at 10.41 pounds.
Thats a nice 2 pound average. This is Mike's first
trip to the money slots after having only fished 3 tournaments with us
so far this season. Awesome!
Great Job!
Congratulations Michael!
3rd Place
John Schaeff
John's back! John caught a limit of fish and even beat his
boater. John's limit weighed in at 7.94 pounds.
He's been struggling all season but his persistance has paid
off. Maybe he stopped fishing the braided line.
Anyway this is John's first fish he's caught this season
and he wow'ed us with his great catch. Hooyah!
Great Job!
Congratulations John!
4th Place
Jeff Weaver
Jeff also caught his standard limit of 5 fish. This time
weighing in at 7.76 pounds. Bet he caught them on his
standard black worm.....or at least that's what he'll tell you.
Doesn't matter he always has fish which is why he's on top of
our AOY leader board. This is Jeff's 5 time out of 6
tournaments fished where he has placed in the money. Seems
like he's getting paid to fish. I just hope he's reporting it
to the IRS as income.
Great Job!
Congratulations Jeff!
AOY Analysis
Well this season is turning out to be interesting in the AOY race.
It seems all of our top anglers have taken one tournament
off. Only Jere and Pete have fished them all but they each
had a skunk they wish they could throw out.
Staying on Top of the leader board is Jeff Weaver with 124 points to
date with 6 out of 7 tournaments fished. He has a commanding
14 point lead over second place.
John Buck jumps up to 2nd place even though he doesn't believe it.
He two has only fished 6 tournaments but he's done well in
each of those. Two seconds and a first place will get you
lots of points.
Dropping to 3rd due to missing the May tournament is Mack Cramer with
106 points just 4 points behind John who has 110.
Jere Jaillite stays in 4th place but is closing the gap from 14 points
last month to just 5 points this month.
New to the top six is Carlito Silvania who jumps up to 5th place this
month. Way to go Carlito!
Tied for 5th last month, Pete Potter now sits in 6th place just 1 point
behind.
And there you have the top six fishermen so far this year but it's
still too early to call who will come out on top. One thing
is for sure...you can't afford to miss any more tournaments if you want
to stay there now.
CO-AOY Analysis:
Our top 3 Co-Angler's have changed out a bit but Carlito is still
holding on to the top spot. A boater in disguise actually.
The Co-AOY award was designed to get the non-boaters to
participate more not for the boaters to leave their boats at home.
We almost had a boat short this month. No one wants
to be left behind. Anyway Carlito is leading the pack by a
good 22 points ahead of second place in the Co-AOY category.
Great job Carlito!
Maintaining second place is Cliff Armstrong another boater in disquise.
Moving up to 3rd place is a true non-boater unless you want to fish out
of a salt water boat is Bob Jones. Bob caught a limit of fish
this time out and managed to jump ahead of 3 other non-boaters this
trip.
