Minutes of the Meeting:
The April meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 19th of April at Founaris
Bros.
Greek Restaurant by our President
John Buck. We had 25 members present.
It was really great to see Ole Ron Bridges up and about attending our
meeting.
Old Business:
The minutes from the last
meeting were read and accepted.
The
treasury report was read and accepted.
Booray Report: The Booray pot is now at $312 fir a 5.5 pound fish.
See Buddy
for details.
This month's 50/50 was won by Brain Nall!
Thanks for the great cookout at Lake Seminole.
Lake Jordan we'll have Fried Chicken and Baked Beans with Potatoe salad.
Remember Proposed changes need to be turned in by the close of business
of the August Meeting. They will be discussed during the
September meeting then voted on during the October Meeting.
You have to have fished at least 6 tournaments prior to the
October meeting to have a vote. Since we are already half way
through the season that means there are only 5 more tournaments to be
fished to be eligible. Plan accordingly if you want a say in
the future.
Hawg Hunter hats are only $20 if you want one. See John Buck
New Business:
The club needs a new barbeque. If you know where we can get
one speak up. The one we have has been great to us but is
seeing it's last legs. I guess everything in this club is
getting older. Or if you know where we can get the parts to
repair or rebuild all the better as it's a portable grill large enough
for all of us. See John Buck or Dave Dyess for make and model
information to repair.
We are coming up on the months when we fish in the heat. Be
sure to stay hydrated and take care of yourself and your partner.
Bob Jones' wife Barb is doing better on account of your thoughts and
prayers....keep them up.
From the Tournament Director:
If you gut hook a fish....give it a drink of soda.
If you want a room at Miller's Ferry for Friday night before our 1 day
tournament up there you need to make your own reservation.

Payouts were given for the March tournament. Congrats to all those
who received a payout!
The draw was conducted for the April Lake Jordan tournament.
The meeting was adjourned 7:42pm.
April Tournament:
The
April Tournament was held at Lake Jordan out of the newly redone Boy
scout ramp or as some would say the Lower dam landing. Real
nice place now with a ramp 4 boats wide and a lighted parking lot and
plenty of parking. No big hill for the non-boaters to climb
either while going to get the truck.
We had 18 Hawg Hunters fishing out of 11 boats. 4 were solo
boaters. Nice to have spare boats at the lake when a boater
has a problem and decides to go home early. Herman had
troubles with his motor so his partner Brian Nall moved to another
boater on Sunday.
We had a couple other tournaments going on at the same time as ours
with a big one at Bonner's landing so most of us showed up real early.
We even blasted off earlier than normal with the option to
sit on the side if we felt is was unsafe. A decision every
boater makes for himself.
The weather was great on Saturday with overcast skies and mild temps
getting up into the mid 80's. Slight breeze if you stayed on
the main river but hot when you went into the pockets where the breeze
was cutoff. I noticed very little current flow in the river
which in my opinion turned the fishing off compared to previous years.
Sunday started out cooler and we had mutliple showers pass through on
top of us. Good thing I brought my patio umbrella however my
partner was a little too macho to be seen fishing under it.
To each his own!
By 11am it cleared up and turned out to be a great rest of the day for
the weigh-in and the drive home.
As for the fishing, we as a club caught 104 out of a possible 175 fish.
Total weight was 187.94 pounds. They were Predominantly Cossa
river Spots but we also had about 20 largemouth weighed in.
Big fish on Day one was a 3.50 pound
Largemouth caught by Jacksonville's one and only Roger Helm.
Sundays big fish of the Tournament was a 4.47 lb
Spot caught by our President John Buck.
As for limits, we had 6 on Saturday and 7 on Sunday. Compared
to previous years not too good.
Most improved fishermen was Dave Nason who zero'd on Saturday to come
back with a nice limit of 11.32 pounds on Sunday to finish 10th overall.
Some stats on Previous years for our April Tournaments at Lake Jordan
with Lake Martin included:

Noteworthy in 2015 the top 8 had over 20 pounds of fish each.
In 2014, on the first day, we had 80 out of a possible 85
fish for 17 members brought to the scales. Just 5 fish short of
everyone having a limit.
Jordan has been good to us in the past with this year a little tougher
than recent years. Lake Martin hard to compare.
Tournament Results:
1st Place
John Buck
John was leading the tournament on Saturday with a nice bag of fish
weighing 11.73 pounds. He was the only club member to break
the 10 pound mark. On Sunday he followed through with another
limit of fish these being the heavist bag of tournament at
11.94 lbs. His combined 10 fish tipped the scales to 23.67
pounds! John also took big fish of the tournament
honors with a 4.47 pound spotted bass. And he did all this by
himself as he drew out as one of the solo boaters.
Going back through the records John has been having a good run in
April. He's his stats for the previous April tournaments
he's fished:
2017 - 1st place
2016 - 1st place
2015 - 2nd place
2014 - 4th place
2013 - 7th place
2012 - 2nd place (Lake Martin)
2011 - 3rd place
2010 - 1st place (Lake Martin)
Only 1 tournament not in the top 4 during the last 8 years.
Good Job John! Truly a great fisherman.
Great Job!
Congrats John!
2nd Place
Dave Bock
What a difference a year makes. Last year Dave blew his
motor at the Jordan tournament, this year he comes back strong to take
2nd place. Dave brought 8 fish to the scales weighing in at
17.60 pounds. His limit of 5 on Sunday broke the 10 pound
mark coming in at 11.14. Dave's boat carried the most single
day weight of the tournament of 22.46 lbs on Sunday but his 2 day boat
total of 28.92 lbs was second compared to Pete Potter's and his
partners two day boat total of 31.34 pounds.
Great Job!
Congratulations Dave!
3rd Place
Bill Armstrong
Bill's back in 3rd place again this month. Back to back 3rd
places on our spring two day touraments. Bill
caught limits of fish both days 8.49 pounds on day 1 added
to 8.04 poumds on day 2 gave him a combined weight of 16.53 pounds.
Bill has climbed 10 spots in the last two tournaments on
the leader board for AOY. He now stands in 14th
after fishing only 3 tournaments since he joined the club.
Great Job!
Congratulations Bill!
4th Place
Jeff Weaver
Another member achieving back to back places. Jeff finished 4th last
month and 4th again this month. This is Jeff's 3rd time this
year taking 4th place. Jeff caught limits of fish both days
too. Combining a day 1 weight of 7.81 with a day 2 weight of
7.95 gave him 15.76 pounds total.
Great Job!
Congratulations Jeff!
AOY Analysis
Okay gentlemen we are at the half way point in the race for
the AOY. Time to put your game face on if you want to get or
stay in the top six. The points between the places are
getting bigger.
Leading the Pack again this month is Pete Potter who finished 5th this
month to increase the distance to 9 points ahead of second place.
Pete's brought fish to the scales in all 6 tournaments so far
taking money from us 3 times. He has yet to win one this
season but his consistency has been paying off for him.
Brian Nall maintians his second place standing in the race for AOY
dropping back from Pete by 2 points with his 7th place finish.
Jeff Weaver our 2016 Angler of the Year also maintains his 3rd place
standing from last month but he gained 3 points to close the gap on
second place to only 5 points. Jeff is now just 14 points
behind first place with 6 more tournaments to go. Jeff
missed one tournament at the begining of the season but has been
steadily gaining ground in the standings.
Dave Bock jumps back into 4th place after dropping last month during
his roller coaster ride of Hero to Zero back to Hero again.
All I can say is some days you get the fish...others days the
fish get you.
Mack drops down one spot to sit in 5th place. His dismal 11th
place finish this month allowed Dave to gain 7 points on him.
However, Mack's stll 9 points ahead of 6th place.
Climbing back into the top six this month is Cliff Armstrong but he is
only 1 point ahead of the 3 way tie for 7th place.
Those guys knocking at the Top Six door are John Buck, Terry Smith and
Lee Brannon with Jere Jaillite just 5 points away.
CO-AOY Analysis:
Weve had some movement in our top 3 Co-Anglers with Bob Jones
staying home this tournament. Brian Nall is still claiming
the top Gold spot with 100 points. He's increased his lead by
another 5 points to a total of 26 points. Earning him a
vacation if he choose to stay home one tournament. Of course
that would really affect him in the Top Six standings.
Terry Smith sits solidly in the second place Silver position again this
month. He gained 4 points to sit a solid 16 points ahead of
the 3rd place Bronze position.
Going from being behind Bob Jones by 8 points to jumping ahead
of Bob by 5 points is Dave Nason to take the Bronze position.
Dave had the second biggest stringer on Sunday weighing in at
11.32 pounds.
Great Job Guys!
Slammer Nominees:
None that I know of this month unless you want to talk about not
fishing on Saturday because you ate poorly the day before and your
diabities acted up. Or showing up for blast off late.
It didn't help that we blasting off a little early.
Or running mud through your high dollar motor so you can only
fish one day forcing you to leave early. Or sleeping in the
bottom of the boat all day then leaving early because you have no fish.
