Minutes of the Meeting:

The August meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 16th of August at Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by our President John Buck. We had 24 members present.

Old Business:

The minutes from the last waived by the membership.

The treasury report was read and accepted.

Booray Report: The Booray pot keeps growing.  It's now up to $520 for a 5.5 pound fish.  See Buddy for details.

This month's 50/50 was won by Jere Jaillite!

John Buck said he found some stuff to fix the grill but we still need a wire rack or grate to fit to replace the cooking surface..still have a month or two to go as our September Tournament cookout will be Chicken.   Hopefully Walmart won't over cook it.  I suggest the Publix.

2018 Season Club Officer Nominees:

President: Jeff Weaver
Vice President/Treasurer: Dave Nason
Secretary: Dave Bock
Tournament Director: Cliff Armstrong
Asst. Tournament Director: Billl Armstrong

Still a chance to get you name in the hat as the nominations are still open.  We don't vote until the  October meeting.

New Business:

Next month we will start the meeting earlier than usual .  It will start at 6:30pm so we can take time to discuss the proposed rule changes for the 2018 season.

Tournament suggestion sheets were passed out for the 2018 season.  If you want a say in where we want to fish then fill them out. and get them turned back in by the September meeting.  If you lost your sheet it's real easy.  Since we already know where we are going in November and December start your wish list in January and work through the months until December.  Remember our October Fish Off Tournament is scheduled for 2 days.
If you need a new sheet click on this link and print you out one.

Our August Hubbard's tournament will be sponsored by Don Jahnke, Jere Jaillite and Mack Cramer with a Hotdog cookout with cold drinks.

Keep you thoughts and prayers for Ron Bridges as he struggles through his illness.  Go visit him,  I'm sure he'd enjoy it.

From the Tournament Director:

Great job to everyone who stayed on track with the changes to the June tournament and made it though the weekend fishing both the June and July tournaments.

You Alabama fishing license expired at the end of this month.  Be sure to get you a new one before we go to Swift Creek in Semptember.  You can purchase your new license as early as August 28.

Here's the link to the Alabama License Info Page

Here's the link to actually buy the license

For those of you in the Golden ages our national parks are going to increase the fees for the lifetime pass from $10 to $80.  These passes work at the Corps of Engingeers landing we visit like the one at Miller's ferry.
Best way to get one is to go to Fort Pickens or Johnson Beach.  Here's the online info

Payouts for the June and July tournaments were handed out.   Congrats to all those who received money. Great job!

The meeting was adjourned 7:44 pm.

August Tournament:

The August Tournament was held on the Tensaw River out of Hubbard's landing.  We had 11 boats with 20 members brave the 90 degree temps.

Lesson 1.....don't follow Lee Brannon when going to Hubbards.  I think this is two years in a row we've made the 12 mile extra loop to get to the landing.  At least we left early enough to not be late for blast off.

It was a tough tournament for most of us but there is always one who finds them.  This time it was John Buck with a big bag.

As a club we caught 36 fish weighing 52.70 lbs.  2 guys had limits and 4 guys had none.  4 of our little green friends didn't survive the ordeal but one 4-ft gator now has a slider head hook as lip jewelry.

After the weigh-in we all gathered around Don's campsite and enjoyed the comradee and hospitality of good friends while enjoying some of the biggest hot-dogs known to man.
Thanks Don, Mack and Jere for hosting the event.  Don's wife and puppies too!

Tournament Results:

1st Place
John Buck

John showed us how to catch-em with a real nice limit of fish.  His 5 fish tipped the scales to over 10 pounds!  10.75 lbs  to be exact.  Anchored by the tournament big fish of 4.30 pounds!   This is John's second win this season.  His other was back in April at Lake Jordan.

Great Job!

Congrats John!

2nd Place
Tony Boyett

Hey look!  We finally got a great picture of Tony.  I guess he was proud of his 2nd place finish.  Tony had 4 fish that weighed in at 7.38 pounds.  Tony's been the bridesmaid finisher 3 times this year out of the 5 tournaments he's fished.

Great Job!

Congratulations Tony!

3rd Place
Mack Cramer

Mack was the only other member to bring in a limit of fish.  Brings his total fish count to 41 this year tied with Jeff Weaver for most fish caught so far.  Mack's 5 fish weighed 6.56 pounds.  This is Mack's second time placing 3rd this season.  He's caught fish in every tournament so far but has only managed 2 paydays.  Maybe he's saving himself for the fish off.

Great Job!

Congratulations Mack!

4th Place
Jeff Weaver

Jeff rounds our our top 4 places for August.  He says he caught a limit but only weighed in 4 as he thinks he had some shrinkage in the livewell.  His 4 weighed in fish weighed 4.78 pounds good enough for 4th place.  This is Jeff's fourth 4th place this season and oh by the way he's in 4th for the year too!

Great Job!

Congratulations Jeff!

AOY Analysis

The only thing that changed this month in the AOY standings is Brian Nall dropped out of 6th to be replaced by John Buck.  The top 5 places remained the same.  Here they are but the point spreads are getting closer to make it anybody's game.

1st - Pete Poter - 160 pts
2nd - Dave Bock - 154 pts
3rd - Mack Cramer - 148 pts
4th - Jeff Weaver - 145 pts
5th - Cliff Armstrong - 141 pts
6th - John Buck - 134 pts

7th - Brian Nall - 131 pts

Only two tournaments to go before we crown a winner!  Who will it be?  Make plans to attend as it could turn out to be a real shoot out!

CO-AOY Analysis:

We have some movement in the Co-Angler of the year race with Dave Nason pulling ahead of Bill Armstrong.  Bill having a tough tournament drops down to 3rd.

Gold - Brian Nall - 131 pts
Silver - Dave Nason - 110 pts
Bronze - Bill Armstrong - 109 pts

Brian started out strong but has had a tough time the last 3 tournaments.  Could Dave or Bill catch him?  It's possible now!
