Minutes of the Meeting:

The December meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 14th of December at Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by our President John Buck. We had 21 members present.

Old Business:

The minutes from the last meeting were waived.

The treasury report was read and accepted.

Booray Report: The pot started over in November. We are now looking for a 5.5 pound fish. See Buddy for details.

The 50/50 was won by Buddy Yates.

We have a few club members who are battling medical issues. Marc Churchwell recovering from back surgery and Ron Bridges whose in good spirits and very optimistic about his recovery. Ron would love to hear from you with phone calls and visits. Dave Dyess also recovering from his ordeal even showed up at the meeting looking good. Let's keep these guys in our thoughts and prayers and hope they will be fishing with us soon.

Awards banquet

The awards banquet was a smashing sucess.  Congrats to those who made the Top Six and the Co-Angler of the year.   It was nice to see all the "better halves" again.   Great Job to Jeff Weaver for putting on a great presentation again this year.  Really nice.

**See pictures here**

New Business:

Club Hats

A new order of club hats has arrived along with the new price.  $20  be sure to get one before they run out.

Safety Corner

We strongly encourage you to wear an auto-inflating life jacket like the one Frank Dodge wore as he won the coveted Slammer Award this past October.  It certainly saved his life as he went in the water at Apalachicola.

From the Tournament Director:

All the rooms have been reserved for Friday and Saturday nights for our two day tournaments.  If you plan on going up early and want to stay Thursday let Mack know well enough in advance so he can book one for you.

No dead fish at the November tournament...good job.  In an effort to ensure fish are kept alive, livewell operation will be check prior to tournaments at the ramp.  Florida permit rules require this when fishing in Florida.

All were reminded that anyone providing assistance to another club member, on the water, will not be disqualified for late arrival to weigh-in.

Prior to "blast-off", the National Anthem will be played following the morning prayer.

Payouts were given for the November tournament. Congrats to all those who received a payout!

The draw was conducted for the December tournament.

The meeting was adjourned 7:45pm.

Tournament:

The December Tournament was held on the Escambia River at Swamphouse landing.  We had 15 Hawg Hunters and one guest, Greg Smith, fishing out of 8 boats.  Fairly small turnout for a local tournament.  Especially when the weather turned out to be short-sleeve shirt weather in the high 60's to low 70's.  Actually turned out to be a good tournament compared to some years past.  We had 13 members and our guest catch fish.  Total weight for the club was  77.76 pounds for 52 fish.  We had 6 limits and two guys caught over 10 pounds apiece!

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Don Janhke

Don drew out as a non-boater this time and the guide service he used paid off big time.  He managed to catch a limit of fish totaling 10.53 pounds with a kicker that went 4.76 pounds.  Great bag for Escambia!  Rumor has it he waited all the way to 1:00 pm before catching his 5th fish to beat his boater by merely less than an ounce.   Don's kicker also won him Big Fish money and he's now back on top of the annual big fish listing.  He was hard to beat last year with his 8.42 pound Hawg he caught at Lake Seminole.  Maybe we still have a chance......

Great Job!

Congrats Don!

2nd Place
Jere Jaillite

Jere was Don's guide for the day and had a great day too.  He said he caught 11 keepers all day long and ended culling up to 10.48 pounds for his 5 biggest fish.  He also had a nice over 16 inch fish that weighed 3.29 pounds.   With them two fishing together, Don and Jere, they caught over 20 pounds of fish on the Escambia River!   Jere let it slip that they didn't fish down in the grass or up in the current.  Maybe at the next meeting we'll get more schooling as to where instead of what color worm.   Yea right....

Great Job!

Congratulations Jere!

3rd Place
Jeff Weaver

Jeff drew out as a solo boater but brought along one of his friends, Greg Smith to make the day more memorable.  He also caught a limit of fish and his 5 fish tipped the scales at 7.05 pounds.

Great Job!

Congratulations Jeff!

4th Place
John Buck

At the top of the 6 pound category is John who brought in a limit weighing 6.76 pounds.  There were 3 other members breeching the 6 pound mark.  I fished with John and we started out slow trying a few spots but then he found one where he loaded the boat quicker than you can say "supercalifragilisticecpialidocious".
He even got to cull one!

Great Job!

Congratulations John!

AOY Analysis

Okay, last month's winner and leader of the AOY race  couldn't make it to the tournament so we knew right away he wouldn't be able to keep the lead.  In fact Dave Nason dropped all the way down to 9th place.  Missing tournaments in our club always costs you places in the big picture of things.  Especially with the quality of fishermen we have.
Jumping up from 3rd last month to 1st place this month is non other than Jere Jaillite.  Add a 3rd place finish with a 2nd place finish and you get a 1st place spot in the AOY running.
Also jumping up spots from 5th to 2nd in Brian Nall.  Two 5th place finishes will get you 2nd.
Moving up one spot is Pete Potter who now sits in 3rd place.
4th place is Bob Jones who leaped up 4 places from 8th last month.  6 plus 8 will get you 4th.
Moving up one place from 6th to 5th is Mack Cramer just one point behind Bob.
And rounding out the top six is Don Jahnke who rose from the deep.
Lots more tournaments to go but this month we had 11 advance their position.  Great job guys!

CO-AOY Analysis:

Lead change!  Brain Nall steps up and replaces Dave Nason as the current Co-AOY.  Behind him is Bob Jones who now holds the Silver position while Dave Nason falls to the Bronze position.  There is still a lot of our non-boaters who haven't participated yet...but it's not to late to get involved!

Great Job Guys!

Slammer Nominee

Here we go with another season of fishing and we already have our First Nominee.  In fact this guy is the whole reason the "Slammer Award" was started.  Well he's back at it again.   It seems ole Pete Potter found himself in a little bit of a pickle trying to put his boat on the trailer come weigh in time.  Now I didn't personally see it but I'm being told by quite a few club members it was quite the site!

Just sit right back
And you'll here a tale
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from the Swamphouse
Aboard the Basscat ship
The mate was a mighty sailing man
The skipper old as shit
Two Hawg hunters blasted off that day
for a 10 hour tourny
 a 10 hour tourny

The clock started getting close
But the tiny ship was tossed
If not for the crowd on the ramp
The Basscat would be lost

The Basscat would be lost!

Seems ole Pete while attempting to put his boat on the trailler left his trolling motor down.  Everytime he tried to put it on the trailler the trolling motor would catch and toss him back into the sea.   Finally after numerous attempts he listened to the crowd on the beach and raised his trolling motor for a successful recovery of his pretty Basscat.
