Minutes of the Meeting:
The May meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 17th of May at Founaris
Bros.
Greek Restaurant by our President
John Buck. We had 22 members present.
Old Business:
The minutes from the last
meeting were read and accepted.
The
treasury report was read and accepted.
Booray Report: The Booray pot now stands at $364 for a 5.5
pound fish.
See Buddy
for details.
This month's 50/50 was won by Pete Potter!
The Club grill is in need of repair and the Grill Replacement/Repair
committee gave us their finding on what they recommend we do.
Seems it won't be easy to replace as the style grill we have
is
not made anymore. Suitable replacement parts can be had but
they
are not cheap. It really just comes down to how much we as a
club
value our cookouts where we use the grill 2 times a year. We
should do a fund raiser!
Hawg Hunter hats are only $20 if you want one. See John Buck
New Business:
A SOP Proposal was brought to the floor where we had a lively or deadly
discussion depending on which side the vote you were on.
The proposal read as follows:
Any
person fishing "SOLO" for any reason shall be required to wear
his
life jacket(PFD) the entire time he is on the water fishing the
tournament. The penalty for not following this rule will be
disqualification from the tournament.
The vote did NOT pass....3 For and 19 against.
As
our rules are written now you must wear your Life Jacket when the
boat's combustion engine is being operated above idle speed.
Nothing says you can't wear your Life Jacket all the time if YOU choose
to.
We also had a discussion about blasting off too
early. Remember if you don't feel safe you can pull over to
the
side until you do. According to our rules:
The
tournament Director will use his own judgment to determine safe
daylight. At that point, it becomes the responsibility of
each
boater to judge for himself whether or not safe conditions exist and to
act accordingly.
We are coming up on the months when we fish in the heat. Be
sure to stay hydrated and take care of yourself and your partner if you
have one.
From the Tournament Director:
Our Hot summer tournaments are coming up. Remember we have
1pm weigh ins for the June, July and August Tournaments.
Speaking of August you Alabama Fishing License will expire then.
Time to get the dates on your Boat Flares and Fire Extinguishers.
Don't get a ticket!
Birthday
boys for May were Dave Bock.
(still one of the youngest guys in the club!)
Payouts were given for the April tournament. Congrats to all those
who received a payout!
The draw was conducted for the May Miller's Ferry Tournament.
The meeting was adjourned 8:00 pm.
May Tournament:
The
May Tournament was held at Miller's Ferry just outside of Camden
Alabama utilizing the Ellis Landing ramp. We had 15 members
fishing out of 9 boats.
The weather was great on Saturday with overcast skies and we had a
small shower run through during tournament hours. Overall a
great day to be on the water.
Everyone caught fish and we managed 7 limits including a limit
of dead fish. It's getting hotter and we need to keep better
care of our fish. Two members dropped a position because of
the penalties assessed to include one dropping out of the 4th place
money spot.
58 fish caught weighing in at 89.93 pounds with a lunker/big fish of
3.90 caught by the new old guy....Bill Armstrong.
Tournament Results:
1st Place
Jere Jaillite
Jere found a nice limit of fish weighing in at 11.29 pounds anchored by
a 3.12 Hawg. This is Jere's first win of the 2017 season and
3rd time taking our money. He jumps up two places on the AOY
leader board to sit in 8th but only 4 points away from the top six guys.
Great Job!
Congrats Jere!
2nd Place
Bill Armstrong
Back for some more of our money for the 3rd month in a row is Bill.
This time Bill climbs up one spot to take Second Place
honors. Bill fishing out of the back of Don's boat caught a
nice limit tipping the scales over 10 pounds to 10.09. His
kicker was the big fish of the tournament weighing 3.90 pounds.
Bill's on a roll and is rapidly gaining points.
He's jumped from 19 to 14 to now sit at 11th place in the AOY
standings. He's only 20 points out of the top six but at his
pace with 5 tournaments to go he might just punch through and make it.
Great Job!
Congratulations Bill!
3rd Place
Cliff Armstrong
Cliff finds himself back in the Top 4 with 4 nice fish weighing in at
9.07 pounds. He had a 2.95 pound brute as
his kicker. Cliff's other trip to the Top 4 was his
win during the January Fish River tournament.
Great Job!
Congratulations Cliff!
4th Place
Dave Dyess
Dave Dyess rounds out our Top 4 with a limit of fish too.
His 5 fish weighed in at 7.23 pounds. He claims the spot by
not having any dead fish penalties like John Buck who dropped to 5th
because of the penalty . This is Dave's second time in the
money this year. His other being his win during the March
Lake Seminole Tournament.
By the way Dave fished as a non-boater this time drawing out Jere
Jaillite as his boater who won the tournament. Seems like
they were on fish as both had limits.
Great Job!
Congratulations Dave!
AOY Analysis
Seven tournaments in the record books with only 5 to go.
This month the Top Six remain the same but the points spreads
are getting closer. We went from a 34 point spread between
1st and 6th to now a 26 point spread.
Here's what it looks like:
1st - Pete Potter - 120 pts
2nd - Brain Nall - 112 pts
3rd - Jeff Weaver - 108 pts
4th - Dave Bock - 107 pts
5th - Mack Cramer - 99 pts
6th - Cliff Armstrong - 94 pts
7th - John Buck - 91 pts
8th - Jere Jaillite - 90 pts
9th - Terry Smith - 88 pts
Getting pretty tight between the places. Just a Hat/Shirt
point away for some or a meeting points for others.
CO-AOY Analysis:
Our Co-AOY are a little more spread out. Here's what they
look like:
Gold (1st) - Brain Nall - 112 pts
Silver (2nd) - Terry Smith - 88 pts
Bronze (3rd) - Bill Armstrong - 72 pts
4th - Dave Nason - 67 pts
5th - Bob Jones - 55 pts
This month Bill jumps up into the Bronze position but has his work cut
out if he's going to try and catch Brian who seems to be running away
with it.
Great Job Guys!
Good Sam Award:
What happen to the caravan's? It's a real good thing I stayed
with Don Jahnke on the trip home after we stopped at the usual Hardee's
meal. Don managed to blow another tire on the way home after
blowing one on the way up to the lake. I'm not sure if it was
the spare he put on or the other original one but he found himself on
the side on the road without good tire to get him home.
Enter the good Samaritan Dave Bock who swooped in and loaned
him a spare so he could get home. I understand not everyone
wants to stop and eat but we should try to stay together better in case
one of us needs help on the road. Next time it might be you.
