Minutes of the Meeting:
The November meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 16th of November at Founaris Bros.
Greek Restaurant by our President
John Buck. We had 22 members present.
Old Business:
The minutes from the last
meeting were waived by the membership in order to speed things along.
The
treasury report was read and accepted.
Booray Report: The pot was won last month by Dave Dyess so we start
over again. This time we are looking for a 5.5 pound fish. See Buddy
for details.
The 50/50 was won by Brian Nall.
Remember guys the money collected from the 50/50 goes towards feeding
us on our 2 day tournaments since we voted not make everyone pay $20 up
front.
It's really for a good cause.
Looks like everyone who wanted to be a member in good standing paid
their dues so we are off to start a new year with new hopes and dreams
to be the Angler of the Year just like Jeff was last year. Currently
everyone is in First Place. But there's those pesky tournaments to come
to see who really claims the First Place Title.
Don't forget we made a change to adopt the Co-Angler of the Year into
our rules so we will be crowning a Co-Angler of the Year again this
year. Will it be you?
2017 Club Officers
If you went to the meeting it probably looked like a whole lot of
change taking place in the E-board but really the only one replaced was
Buddy Yates after serving the last 6 years as Treasurer. Thanks Buddy
for your service to our great club.
Jere is the new money grabber now...I mean Treasurer. Three of our
e-board members couldn't make it to the meeting so Jeff and Dave Nason
filled in. Thanks guys for stepping up.
The 2017 Officers are as follows:
President: John Buck
VP / Treasurer: Jere Jaillite
Secretary: Dave Bock
Tournament Director: Mack Cramer
Asst. Tournament Director: Matt Brown
(Head Cook: Dave Nason)
New Business:
Awards Banquet
The 2016 Awards Banquet is set.
We
are going to Sonny's Barbecue. Same great place we went to
last year. Hope to see you there on Friday night December 2nd
at 6:00pm. The price will be $16 a person for a buffet style
menu of 3 meats & sides. Drinks will be extra.
Hopefully you paid your money already to Jere...but don't
worry you can still get involved. They always need
dishwashers....I mean you can still pay at the door to Jere.
Be sure to come out and honor our Top Six anglers.
They worked hard all year....or just got lucky
Medical Corner
Seems as our club gets older we are having more and more of our members
battling medical issues. This month we keep Ron Bridges, Dave Dyess and
Mack Cramer in our thoughts and prayers.
Safety Corner
We as a club need to return to the way it was when it comes to
caravaning to the lakes we fish. With everyone's hetic schedules it's
getting more difficult to travel as a group. We all need to sacafrice
some of our time so that we may travel in packs. You've heard the term
"Safety in Numbers". Well that holds true for us too as anything can
happen to anyone out there on the road. Some of us are getting too old
to even change a tire and by caravaning we can help each other.
As we get older we also get more stubborn too...but please
guys lets look after each other.
From the Tournament Director:
Payouts were given for the October tournament. Congrats to all those
who received a payout!
The draw was conducted for the November tournament.
The meeting was adjourned sometime around 8:00pm.
Tournament:
The
November Tournament started out with 18 Hawg Hunter all tied
for first place as this was the start of the 2017 fishing season.
High expectations were had by all....yea right. The
wind was blowing, it was colder than usual with a cold front passing
through, most of us haven't been there in years...and the list goes on.
Anyway we met at Publix on 9 mile road to start the caravan.
The trip to the lake was uneventful execpt for the
occassional bathroom stop for those of us who can't hold it very long
anymore.
The ramp at Holley creek was pitch dark with hardly any boat dock to
speak of. We got there a little early but while we were
waiting an hour for the darkness to recede another club showed up so it
got real busy.
So after a tough day of fishing someone had to make it in
the top 4 and here they are.....
Tournament Results:
1st Place
Dave Nason
Dave joined the club in the middle of last season and starts off this
season with his first 1st place win of the club! Dave was the
only Hawg Hunter to bring in a limit of fish. His 5 fish
limit tipped the scales 7.05 pounds.
Great Job!
Congrats Dave!
2nd Place
Tony Boyett
Tony brought in 4 fish to the scales weighing 6.97 pounds. I
understand from his non-boater he ran a long ways to find
them. He might even be thawed out by now.... We
even managed to get Tony to pose for a picture he was so proud of the
fish he caught. He should be as most of us struggled all day.
Great Job!
Congratulations Tony!
3rd Place
Jere Jaillite
Jere only caught 2 fish but one of them was the big fish of
the tournament at 2.60 pounds. Jere's total weight
was 4.69 pounds. His boat also won the Heavy Boat
Stringer honors as he fished with Dave Nason. Jere's total
boat weight was 11.74 pounds. Way to find the fish Jere.
Great Job!
Congratulations Jere!
4th Place
Pete Potter
Sliding into 4th was Pete Potter with his 2 fish he managed to catch
with out using his big motor. Hopefully it was just bad gas
that he thought. I'm sure he's real thankful to
Randy Cole for towing him back to the ramp. Just as Matt
Brown was towed back by Dave Bock. Anyway Pete's 2 fish
weighed 2.72 pounds good enough for a 4th place finish.
Great Job!
Congratulations Pete!
AOY Analysis
Alright we have a new race started this season.
Lots of time to get involved or catch a fish for that matter
but don't get left behind. The points add up fast.
Starting off this year in first place after 1 tournamnet is
our very own Dave Nason who by the way is also a Non-boater!
Tied for 2nd place is Tony and Jere since Tony didn't wear the
club hat/shirt combo to gain the extra point.
In 4th is Pete Potter followed by Brain Nall another non-boater in 5th
place and rounding out the Top Six is Mack Cramer.
CO-AOY Analysis:
It's a new season for the Co-Angler of the Year award too and so far we
still technically have 27 members eligible. 7 boaters have
dropped out of the running since they elected to take their boats.
2 more, Dave Bock and Matt Brown took their boats so we
wouldn't have any non-boaters sitting on the bank. But really
this award is not about boaters leaving their boats behind is about the
non-boaters participating throughout the year. Some thing
being a non-boater is a disavantage because they don't get to fish as
much...but sometimes being in the back of the boat elimates the
distractions of running the trolling motor and worrying about boat
position.
Starting off this year in the top slot is Dave Nason who fishing out of
the back of Jere's boat put a whipping on us. In
second/Silver is Brian Nall and Bob Jones claims the third/Bronze spot.
Great Job Guys!
Good Samaritan Award
This month we have Randy Cole and Dave Bock who each had to give up
some of their fishing time to tow other club members back to the ramp.
Dave even went as far as jump starting Matt Brown only to
struggle getting his boat started later when he tried to run to a
different spot. Appears he loosened a battery connection on
his boat during the jump start process of Matt's boat. I can
still here him cussing.....
