Minutes of the Meeting:

The August meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 15th of August at Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by Jeff Weaver. We had 21 members present.

Old Business

The meeting started out with a little humor by Jeff.  Always a good laugh.

The minutes of last months meeting were still missing so they were waived by the membership anyway.

The treasury report was read and accepted.  Dave has been doing a great job keeping track of our finances.   Now is only we can get the Big Fish money to the Tournament so the guy who catches the big fish of the day can pay for the meal on the way home from the lake.

The Booray pot has increased to $240 since no one has caught a 5.5 pound fish in the past couple of months.  Could be the shitty places we fish in the summer months.

This month's 50/50 was won by someone in the club.   If you know who it was, send the President an email to see if you win the "Pays Attention Prize".

The Change proposals entry deadline ended with the close of the meeting.   Two proposals were submitted to be discussed at the next meeting in September.  No need to come early as in the past years and these proposals have been constantly brought up all year.  In other words next month's meeting will start at 7:00pm as usual.

Here's the link to the web page where the proposals are published.
2019 Season Change Proposals

New Business:

It's the political season!  Nominations are being accepted for club officer positions for the 2019 fishing season.  If you want to step up and get involved be sure to get your name thrown in the hat for one of our E-board positions.  All positions, President, Vice President/Treasurer, Tournament Director, Asst Tournament Director and the Secretary are available.
One way to definitely take your boat and get a partner regardless of how the vote goes in October is to become the Tournament Director.

All Alabama fishing licenses expire at the end of this month.
Our next tournament is at Fish River and if you plan to fish be sure to update your Alabama fishing license.  They go on sale August 27th and can be purchased following this link.

"Purchase Your Alabama Fishing License Here"

Awards Banquet

The end of the year is coming fast and it's time to start thinking about the Year-end Banquet.  Seems everyone has had a good time at Sonny's Barbecue and unless someone has a better idea we will try to reserve it for a Friday night in December.

From the Tournament Director:

Payouts for the July tournament were handed out.

Congrats to all those who received a paycheck.
Great job!

Dave Dyess wanted to step down and give Bill Armstrong some valuable training on the Tournament Director position so Bill will finish the year as the head honcho.

The draw for the July Tournament was conducted.

Drawn out were 10 boaters with 6 Co-Anglers for the August  Tournament to be held at Hubbard's Landing on the Tensaw River.

Hot dog cookout to follow the weigh-in.

Meeting was adjourned 7:35 pm

August Tournament:

The August Tournament was held on the Tensaw River out of Hubbard's landing.  We had 17 members fishing out of 10 boats and the day started out in the mid 80's with rain for the first couple of hours.  Not down pouring but enough still to make it uncomfortable to fish.  On the bright side it wasn't as hot because of it.  The fishing wasn't that great either as we only managed to catch 28 fish by 13 experts.  Only one brought a limit to the scales while his partner skunked.   Maybe they already started the team concept.  Big fish was a 3.81 caught by the hot dog cooker himself Don Jahnke.  Great job Don on a great cookout.  Thanks for the hospitality of your home away from home.

Total fish weight was 43.88 pounds just a little over the amount of hot dogs cooked.  We also added 3 more dead fish to our yearly total of 21.  2 of them came from a brand new boat....better check your live wells.

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Pete Potter

Looks like the guy who didn't want to fish unless he could take his own boat did so anyway & ended up taking our money too!
Pete found a limit of fish weighing in at 7.75 pounds.   Good enough to beat the rest of us on a Hot August Day.  This gave Pete Back to Back wins as he won last month's tournament at Perdido also.

Great job!

Congrats Pete!

2nd Place
Dave Dyess

Dave managed to bring 3 fish to the scales that weighed in at 5.84 pounds.  Good enough for second place!   Ain't it funny how you struggle all day to catch a couple of fish only to find out at the weigh-in that everyone else struggled even more and you come out on top or close to it.  This is Dave's first trip this year in the money slots and a well earned one during a tough tournament.

Great Job!

Congratulations Dave!

3rd Place
Tony Boyett

Tony is still jumping around in the money slots.  This month he manages another Third place finish.  He only caught 2 fish that would weigh but the went 5.17 pounds together.  He has a nice 3.32 pound brute.  Tony has finished 6 out of 7 tournaments in the money slots this season. but he's only in 8 place for the year.  He could be up in the Top Six if he would of fished all the tournaments at the rate he keeps finishing.

Great Job!

Congratulations Tony!

4th Place
John Buck

John rounds out our Top 4 with 3 fish weighing in at 4.67 pounds.  This is John's 3 trip to the Top Four.   This jumps him up 2 places to sit at 10th for the year end standings.

Great Job!

Congratulations John!

AOY Analysis:

Okay we have a little movement in the Top Six this month.  Buddy Yates drops out as he didn't fish this month while Mack, Brian and Dave Dyess move up a notch.   Since Lee's can't move up any all he did was gain on his lead.  It's now 11 points higher to a total of 37 points!  So doing the math there is only one guy who can beat Lee for the Angler of the Year title and that would be Jere Jaillite.     One way would be if Lee stayed home the rest of the year meaning not fishing or coming to the meetings AND Jere places in the top 5 for BOTH tournaments left then Jere could win.
Another way is if Lee does show up at the meetings both months but doesn't fish then Jere would have to finish in the top 3 for BOTH tournaments.
If Lee decides to fish the next tournament then it's Lights out for Jere.  No way Jere could catch him then.  Lee has just got to big of cushion in points.

 Great Job Lee!

So here's the point spread of the Top Six:

1st - Lee Brannon - 184 pts
2nd - Jere Jaillite - 147 pts
3rd - Mack Cramer - 135 pts
4th - Jeff Weaver - 133 pts
5th - Brian Nall - 128 pts
6th - Dave Dyess - 127 pts
7th - Buddy Yates - 120 pts
8th - Tony Boyett - 118 pts

Mack jumps up one to 3rd while Jeff falls down one to 4th.  Brian and Dave also jump up one due to Buddy not fishing the August tournament.  With Jere's skunk this month he opened the door for someone else possibly taking over 2nd place so 2nd thru 6th is still anybodys guess.  Still just a little too early to put the names on the plaques for the year end banquet.

Great job to the Top Six!

CO-AOY Analysis:

This could be the last year for the Co-Angler of the Year award if we switch to the Team format next season.  Brian Nall is has almost got this thing in the bag.  He's 30 points ahead of Dave Nason now and only needs to show up and catch one fish while Dave Nason needs to WIN the next two tournaments.  Anything is possible.

John Schaeff is still maintaining the 3rd Bronze position but only 1 point ahead of  our new rising star John Russell Buck.

Great Job Brian!
