Minutes of the Meeting:

The February meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 21st of January at Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by our  President Jeff Weaver. We had 25 members present.

Old Business

John Russell Buck was voted in to the club by a unanimous vote.  Welcome to the club!

Newest Member!

The minutes from the last waived by the membership.

The treasury report was read and accepted.

Booray Report: The Booray pot is now up to $800 for the February Tournament.  Finally someone won it!   Of course everyone knew it was bound to happen when you fish Lake Seminole in February.  In fact there was 2 fish caught that were over the 5 pound mark but only the biggest one of the weekend claims the prize.   And the winner is Lee Brannon on Saturday catching a devil of a Hawg weighing in at 6.66 lbs.  Lee beats out himself who on Sunday caught another Booray quality fish weighing in at 5.9 pounds.  Of course both fish ended up taking big fish money both days.  Great Job Lee!

Booray Winner - 6.66 lbs!
Lee Brannon

Sunday Big Fish Winner - 5.9 lbs
Lee Brannon

So the Booray pot is now OPEN to all members as we start over again.  It cost $2 per month paid  up front at the beginning of the year.  So if you are new...it will be $16 to start since we have already fished 4 tournaments this year.  See Buddy Yates for Details.

This month's 50/50 was won by our newest member John Russell Buck.

A sign up sheet was passed around for the cookouts.  The club is as great as to what the members put into it.   Thanks for signing up for duties.  We are looking forward to our cookouts and I can tell you the one we had at Lake Seminole was a good one.   I thought we were gonna have to call the fire department for a little bit but Dave Nason and John Schaeff managed to get a handle on the new burners of the grill.  The hamburgers and brats were great and we also had a special treat made by the hotel owner of Indian curry and rice with baked tortillas.   And don't forget the great brownies we had too!   Thanks to all those involved who made a great dinner happen.

New Business:

One of our tournament scale cases is in pretty bad shape and in need of a replacement one. Expect a charge on our account unless someone wants to graciously donate the money for it.

Insurance forms are due in March for Lee Brannon and Pete Potter.  Be sure to turn the into the Asst. Tournament Director in order to be able to utilize your boats in March.

Email or address changes?   Please turn them into Jere Jaillite as he has been doing a great job keeping the list up to date.

A discussion was held about Partners.   Let's make sure we communicate with each other our intentions for the tournament.  Family commitments, work and other life events keep us all from being on the same page so we may not be able to ride together to the lake.  Don't leave your partner behind!    Make sure arrangements are made for everyone to get to and from the tournament.   It has been customary for the caravan to leave early Friday morning on our two day tournaments so try to plan accordingly.  Some of us leave Thursday morning or work late Thursday/Friday nights and that's where things start to get sticky.  Bottom line....if you draw a partner make sure arrangements are made for them to get to the lake.

From our Club Rules:

20. Partners are expected to share normal tournament expenses, i.e., boat and auto-mobile gas and oil, lodging, and launch fees. This will apply only to a 2 day tournament. On one day tournaments the non-boater will be required to pay $20.00 minimum or half of the expenses whichever is greater. The club will reimburse any member who is required to fish alone due to an odd number of fishermen upon presentation of expenses to the club treasurer.

21. A fishing partner will share expenses whether or not he rides to and from the tournament site with the boater.

Of course if you choose to opt out and go as a Solo Boater you will pay all your expenses and the club will not be responsible.

From the Tournament Director:

Reservations have been made for the Bay City Lodge in Apalachicola for our March Tournament.  This is a change from our normal Rancho Inn we stay at.   Should be a good time as they have cabins and on the river boat parking.

Payouts for the January tournament were handed out.   Congrats to all those who received a paycheck. Great job!

February Tournament:

The February Tournament was held at the Florida/Georgia border on Lake Seminole.  Normally we go in March but the E-board gambled this year on the weather and won!  We had great weather!    Mid 70's to low 80's with some clouds and just a tad bit of rain on Sunday but it was warm.   Water temps were in the high 60's to 72 in some spots.  The bass were frisky and were in a pre spawn mode.  As for the 18 members we were too!   Saturday we had 15 of 18 bring 58 fish weighing 118.55 pounds and Sunday we had 16 of 18 bring in 61 fish weighing 117.56 pounds.  7 limits on Saturday and 7 limits on Sunday.  Only 2 dead fish over the weekend.  Since we sorta fished in Florida we kept track of how many were over 16" and Saturday's total was 17 while Sunday's total was 21.   That's 38 fish over 16" for you mathematicians!

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Lee "Booray" Brannon

Lee did an Outstanding job with his 10 fish he brought to the scales.  All 10 of his fish were over 16 inches!  Saturday he brought in a whopping 18.70 pounds which included the Booray devil Hawg of 6.66 pounds!  Sunday was just as good with 16.99 pounds for a two day total of 35.69 pounds!   Looks like we have a new Club Record easily beating out Jere Jaillite who in March of 2009 had 29.23 pounds for two days.
Lee really whacked them and beat the rest of us by 10 pounds!

Great Job!

We are humbled in your presence!

Congrats Lee!

2nd Place
Roger "No Strap" Helm

Roger our club member from way over in Jacksonville also had 2 limits of fish.  His fish weighed in at 25.70 pounds!  9 of them 10 fish were over 16 inches!  Roger's biggest one was a 4.18 pounder he caught on Saturday with a 3.07 caught on Sunday.   Roger had 13.77 pounds Saturday and 11.93 on Sunday.

Great Job!

Congratulations Roger!

3rd Place
Tony "No Shirt" Boyett

Tony had an awesome day of Saturday bringing in a limit weighing 15.94 pounds.  Combine that with his not so good day on Sunday of just 5.0 pounds and he managed to hold on and get in the money spots with a two day total of 20.94 pounds.   Tony had a nice 4.27 pound brute on Saturday to anchor his bag.

Great Job!

Congratulations Tony!

4th Place
Mack "Do you miss me yet?" Cramer

Mack also brought in two limits of fish which were good enough to capture 4th place money.  His 2 day total was just shy of 20 pounds at 19.87 lbs.   Mack had 4 fish over 16 inches with a 3.59 and a 3.66 anchoring his limits each day.

Great Job!

Congratulations Mack!

AOY Analysis

Well this month Lee Brannon is adding more points to his lead which has now increased to 10 points.  If WE don't get better at this fishing stuff he's going to be untouchable at the end of the year.   He's already placed in the top 5 in all 4 tournaments we've fished so far.
 He's on fire!
Jere Jaillite is still in the number 2 spot but Mack is gaining on him to make the gap between 2nd and 3rd by only 1 point.  However Jerry next month you should gain on Mack as he will not be fishing the Apalachicola tournament.
4th place is still currently being held by Jeff Weaver
Jumping up to 5th is Dave Dyess just 4 points behind Jeff.
And rounding out the Top Six so far this year is Buddy Yates just one point behind Dave.

Great job to the Top Six!

CO-AOY Analysis:

On the Co-Angler side Dave Nason manages to keep the top "Gold" spot while Brain Nall who slid up last month now slides down to 3rd this month.  Thom Labelle jumps back into the 2nd place "Silver" position.   These 3 guys are pretty close to each other but their is still 8 tournaments to go before the final outcome is determined.    Plenty of time to make up points for the other Co-Anglers all you have to do is get involved and fish with us.   The more Co-Anglers who fish with us the less the Solo-boater issue pops up.

Prospective Members:

Mark Williams

We didn't get a chance to Vote Mark in last month as he wasn't at the meeting or intending to fish Lake Seminole but he's still eligible for membership.

Yellow Ball Winner!

Tony Boyett

Every tournament day if you catch a fish you get a chance to draw the yellow ball and be a real winner just like Tony.  It's known as the Golf Ball draw and if you catch a keeper fish and bring it to the scales for weigh-in you get to pay $1 then we draw in tournament standings reverse order to see who can win the pot by pulling the single yellow  golf ball out of 20 or so white golf balls.   Originally bought about to keep folks at the weigh in but has actually been a fun addition to our weigh in.   This time the pot was close to a hundred dollars.  It hasn't been while in a while.   Great job Tony!

Slammer Nominees!:

This month we have a couple Slammer nominees!

This first was Dave "short leg" Nason.  Seems his legs were just a little too short for him while he was trying to get out of Cliff Armstrong's boat at the dock early Saturday morning.   It was still really dark out and sitting on the dock we heard this big ruckus going on a little ways away,  Turning to look all we could see was the outline of Dave hunched over the dock.   Well getting a closer look Dave was standing in the water checking the water temperature.  Seems he missed dock while getting out of Cliff's boat.

The second one was Bill "Strap On/Strap Off" Armstrong.  As I heard he launched his boat with a rear strap still tied on.  Then finding this out he had his partner try to hook up the bow strap to winch up the boat back on the trailer so they could pull it out to fix the rear strap.  But his partner had problems with the winch so Bill came to the front of the boat to winch it up.  Finally getting it right they commenced to pull the boat out....only to realize Bill didn't trim is motor back up as it was dragging up the ramp.  Once that was taken care of and the rear strap was removed they then backed the trailer back into the water this time forgetting the bow strap was still tied.  So Bill is the Strap On or Strap Off?

The third nominee we had over the weekend was probably the best or worst one depending on how you look at it.  It involved "Good Luck " Bob assisting Roger "No Strap" Helm.  Bob has been around many a Slammer Nominees in his adventures as a Hawg Hunter.  Anyway Roger  was a Solo Boater this tournament so Bob lends a hand to help him put his boat on the trailer.   Bob's back the truck down and Roger drives his nice Ranger boat up onto the trailer.  Bob then tries to strap the bow but Roger stops him and says it will be all right.  Roger's normal habit of gunning the motor while the truck and trailer are pulled out the water didn't work too well for him this time.  The ramp at Seminole Lodge isn't the best ramp and it is a little steeper than others we used.

Ouch!
Next time you might want to use the strap!
