Minutes of the Meeting:

The January meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 17th of January at Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by our  President Jeff Weaver. We had 22 members present and 2 guests.  Both prospective members. Mark Williams sponsored by Kevin Simmons and the other was John Russel Buck sponsored by his dad, John Buck

Old Business

The minutes from the last waived by the membership.

The treasury report was read and accepted.

Booray Report: The Booray pot is now up to $756 for the January Tournament but will get bigger by February as no one managed to catch a fish bigger that 5 pounds.   I predict it will be won next month at Lake Seminole.  So make plans to attend if you want a chance to win it.  See Buddy for details.

This month's 50/50 was won by Don Jahnke.

A round of Cheers went up for the people who were involved in hosting a successful Awards Banquet.  Great job!   Notable mention was Jeff Weaver and his slide presentation.

New Business:

The cookouts are coming!    Stating in February, March and April we will be needing everyone to pitch in  and do their part to ensure we have successful cookouts.  Sign up sheets will be coming so we can lock in volunteers.  Our willingness to lend a hand for the benefit of the club is what really makes our club stand out and keeps it going.

Hambugers & Brats in February at Seminole
Fish Fry in March at Apalachicola
Chicken in April at Jordan

We have 12 rooms reserved for Seminole Inn for the February Tournament.  If you are going Thursday and need a room that night talk to Dave Dyess.

From the Tournament Director:

Payouts for the December tournament were handed out.   Congrats to all those who received a paycheck. Great job!

The water temps are colder so be sure to have some extra clothes with you in case you find your self in the water.  Hypothermia can set in pretty quickly especially for you older gentlemen.

The draw was conducted for the January Fish River tournament.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 pm.

January Tournament:

The January Tournament was held over in Alabama on Fish River.  It was a one day tournament with a 4pm weigh in.  We had 13 boaters carrying 8 Co-Anglers to this local tournament including two prospective members fishing as guests. Temps in the morning started out at 36 degrees but warmed up nicely to the mid 60's by weigh in.   On the main river the water temps started out at 49 degrees and by afternoon we found some 56 degree water back in the feeder creeks.  The weather was on a warming trend with cloud coving coming in as it was predicted to rain by Monday.  Overall a beautiful day and weekend in the south for January.
As a club we caught 48 fish weighing 62.21 pounds which included 3 limits caught by members claiming 3 of the top 4 spots.

A Little Humor:

The Fisherman's Glossary of Essential Terms and Concepts

Bite - What the mosquitoes and black flies do while the fishermen are preoccupied with not catching fish.

Can of Worms - The situation that arises when you inform your wife that you'll be spending the weekend fishing instead of doing household chores.

Crappie - the way you feel when you're at work and you'd rather be fishing.

Dock - The professional you should probably consult about your unhealthy fishing obsession.

Fish Finder - A revolutionary technological device that allows you to scan below the water's surface and actually see the fish you'll never catch.

Largemouth Bass - The most popular game fish in North America.  Drop the "B" and it also become an accurate description of most fishermen.

Muskie - The order of any tent or cabin after a group of fishermen has shared it for more than a day.

Snag - Something you're bound to hit if you try lying too outrageously about your catch.

Walleye - Common malady among fishermen, caused by too little sleep and too much beer.

Wet Fly - The unhappy consequence of trying to urinate over the side of a moving boat.

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Mack Cramer

Mack got to fish by himself this tournament which has been rare him.  As Tournament Director over the last couple of years he's always had a partner.  Anyway he brought in 5 nice fish to weigh 7.15 pounds.  This is Mack's first showing in the money slots this year but I'm sure it won't be his last.

Great Job!

Congrats Mack!

2nd Place
Buddy Yates

Buddy also brought in a limit of 5 fish.  His limit weighed in at 6.92 pounds just a couple of ounces behind Mack.  Buddy also fished solo this time out and this Second place finish was all him.

Great Job!

Congratulations Buddy!

3rd Place
John Buck

John was one fish short of a limit but that didn't stop him from capturing 3rd place.  His 4 fish tipped the scales at 5.79 anchored with this months Big Fish of 3.03 pounds.  Beating Kevin Simmons out of Big Fish Money by just .01 pounds or .16 ounce.

Great Job!

Congratulations John!

4th Place
Jeff Weaver

Jeff rounds out our Top 4 this month with a limit of fish weighing in at 5.51 pounds.  Not any great size to them but enough of them to beat the rest of us.  I just got to thinking....have you ever seen Jeff not hold up at least 2 fish?

Great Job!

Congratulations Jeff!

AOY Analysis

Okay, we've broken the tie from last month for 1st place.  Lee Brannon claims the lead by beating Jere Jaillite 4 places during the tournament.
Jere drops to second while Mack surges ahead from 6th last month to 3rd this month coming fresh off his win at Fish River.
Jeff also jumps up one spot to claim 4th this month while Dave Nason slips to 5th.
Rounding out the Top Six is Buddy Yates who shot up from 13th last month.

Great job to the Top Six!

CO-AOY Analysis:

On the Co-Angler side Dave Nason will keep the top "Gold" spot while Brain Nall slides on up to the Silver position.  Since Thom Labelle didn't fish with us over the weekend he slides down a spot from last month to sit in the Bronze position.
These 3 guys are running away from the rest of the pack and if you as a Co-Angler want to catch up you need makes plans to attend our tournaments.

Prospective Members:

John Russel Buck
