Minutes of the Meeting:

The May meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 16th of April at Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by John Buck. We had 21 members present.

Old Business

The minutes from the last waived by the membership.

The treasury report was read and accepted.

Booray Report: The Booray pot now stands at $96 as no one has caught a fish over 5.5 pounds in the last two tournaments.

See Buddy Yates for Details...

This month's 50/50 was won by Pete Potter.

New Business:

The summer heat is coming so be careful out there on the water.  Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.  If you see your partner starting to get the symptoms of heat stress or heat stroke get them cooled down fast.  Best way is to throw them in the water.   (Not to be used as an excuse because he is catching more fish than you though.)
For you guys that draw out as solo boaters you'll have a disavantage so watch out for yourself.  Of course you could always give up your option to be a boater and sit in the back seat of someelse's boat if you don't want to have this disavantage.

From the Tournament Director:

Payouts for the April tournament were handed out.   Congrats to all those who received a paycheck.
Great job!

The draw for the May Tournament was conducted.

The summer months are also hard on the fish.  Check on them often and protect our resourses.  If they look like they are struggling with the heat you can always throw them overboard too.

Once again we had 12 boaters with 8  co-anglers drawn out for the May tournament held on the Tensaw River out of Scott' Landing down by the causeway.

May Tournament:

The May Tournament was held at the Tensaw River breaking the tradition of going to Miller's Ferry in May.   I'm sure most would of rather went there instead but we did have a good turn out of 20 members.  Just not enough non-boaters to fill all the seats available so as to take the preceived advantage away from the drawn out Solo boaters.  Luck of the Draw it's always been said.   In fact this time the non-boaters got to pick their boaters out of the hat.  I Guess no one wanted to fish with Buddy, Lee Tony or Dave Bock as the non-boaters didn't pick them.  Probably a good thing no one picked Dave as he ended up going home early due to a failed oil pump causing a blown piston.

Anyway the 19 members who did get to fish caught 40 fish weighing in at 61.09 pounds with two members catching limits.

Okay...on to the results!

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Lee Brannon

Lee has been no stranger to the Top Four this year.  In fact out of 7 tournaments he's only NOT been in the Top Four once and that was a 5th place finish at Fish River in January.  This racks up his 3 win this season and it seems he's unstoppable.  Maybe if he drew out a partner that would stop him.  Oh WAIT he had a partner in March at Apalachicola where he won by over 10 pounds!
Lee brought 4 fish to the scales weighing 10.94 pounds while also capturing Big Fish Honors with a 4.46 pound brute.  I heard he didn't have a fish before noon but finally caught all his fish in one small spot.   Now approiately labeled "Lee's Spot".

Great job!

Congrats Lee!

2nd Place
Tony Boyett

Finally a great picture of Tony!  Of course that's because he wanted to brag about finishing in Second Place.   Tony brought in a limit of fish totaling 7.90 pounds.  A great feat as most of the other anglers only brought in 1 or 2 fish.   This is Tony's 3 trip to the Money Slots as he previously had a 4th, a 3rd and now this 2nd place finish.  Will his next one be a 1st?

Great Job!

Congratulations Tony!

3rd Place
John Schaeff

It's been a long time since we've seen John in the Money Slots.  Great Job and we hope you had a great day.  John only managed 2 fish but he had a nice 3.6 lb pictured above to give him a total of 5.19 pounds.  It for tough for everyone except maybe Lee but when the going was tough John stepped up and showed us his grit and determination.

Great Job!

Congratulations John!

4th Place
Carlito Silvania

Carlito was the only other Hawg Hunter to bring in a limit of fish.  His 5 fish limit weighed in at 5.19 pounds.  Looks like he had some 1 lb squeakers but I'm sure everyone was envious under the tough conditions.  And he even managed them out of an Aluminum boat!

Great Job!

Congratulations Carlito!

AOY Analysis:

No question about Lee is still leading in the Angler of the Year race.  He's really becoming untouchable and in fact he could probably take a tournament off and it wouldn't hurt him.  His 20 point lead last month now jumps to 32 points this month.  Gonna be real hard to beat him in the remaining 5 tournaments.  Now that he has a sponsor with Charlie Brewer Slider Heads he should think about turning Pro.

Buddy climbs another slot up to take over 2nd place away from Jere Jaillite which drops Jere to 3rd.  But not a big gap as Jere is only 1 point behind Buddy.
Jeff Weaver is still solidly in 4th place just 10 points behind 3rd and 10 points ahead of 5th.
In 5th we have a tie.   Mack Cramer and Dave Bock both have 92 points.  Dave's slipping while Mack's climbing.   7th place Dave Dyess is only 2 points behind them with 90 points total.  But Dave and Dave will leave the door to the Top Six open in June as both we be abscent from the June Tournament while they are on their annual Canadian Smallmouth Bass trip.   I'm sure you'll hear all about it in the next couple of months.

So here's the point spread of the Top Six:

1st - Lee Brannon - 145 pts
2nd - Buddy Yates - 113 pts
3rd - Jere Jaillite - 112 pts
4th - Jeff Weaver - 102 pts
5th Tie - Mack Cramer - 92 pts - 33 fish
5th Tie - Dave Bock - 92 pts - 29 fish
7th - Dave Dyess - 90 pts
8th - Brian Nall - 87 pts

Great job to the Top Six!

CO-AOY Analysis:

As for the Co-Anglers we have no change from last month.  Brian is still on Top with Dave Nason 2nd and Thom Labelle in 3rd.
Last months 12 point lead by Brian was reduced to just 5 points by Dave Nason.  And the gap of 6 points last month between 2nd and 3rd has now increase to 14 points this month.  Looks like the big mover this month was Dave Nason who finished in 8th place for the tournament while both Brian and Thom skunked or zero'ed.

Also Fished:

Dave "Blown Piston" Bock, Thom Labelle, & Brian Nall

Dave  blew a #6 piston on his morning run about 7 miles up river on his way to Mifflin.  Talking to the Tuesday morning crowd at Buck N Bass it sounds like he didn't miss much up there.  The guys who made it didn't catch anything there.   Dave did make it back all the way to the dock on his Ultrex trolling motor but she was pretty tired  fighing the incoming tide.
Come weigh-time Dave had the power head off the boat and then completly stripped in time for a Monday morning trip to the machinist.  Getting the block back he had it all back together and back on the boat by Memorial day one week later.
