Minutes of the Meeting:

The October meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 17th of October at Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by Jeff Weaver. We had 28 members present.

Old Business

The minutes of last months meeting were waived by the membership.

The treasury report was read and accepted.

The Booray pot started over for the October Tournament.  This time we are looking for a 5.5 pound Hawg to win in the money.  Collection for the new season took place and if you didn't pay yet you have until the start of the November meeting or risk being dropped out of the action.    (Lee you can disregard as we all believe winning the pot 3 times in one year is your limit.)

This month's 50/50 was won by Tony Boyett.  Remember the 50/50 monies collected go toward our cookouts during our two day tournaments (if we have one)

Okay because it's October we had the opportunity to make some rule changes with a majority vote of the proposals submitted.  21 members eligible to vote showed up at the meeting meaning it would take 14 votes for anything to pass.
The two biggest items on the table were the changes to adopt the Team Concept style of fishing and the Solo boater rule in which some members were trying to revert back to forcing boaters to pair up.

The Solo boater rule failed miserably with only 3 yes votes given.  Seems the majority of the club enjoys being able to take their own boats.  Maybe now we can put this issue to bed and go on enjoying our fishing trips.

The Team Concept Rule change did a little better but still failed to gather enough votes.  Only 6 yes votes were given.

Adding the month of September to the early weigh-ins during the hot months gathered 11 Yes votes.  Not enough to pass.  September will still be a 4:00pm weigh-in whether it's a 1 or 2 day tournament.

Increasing the 2-day tournaments to 5 a year didn't pass either.  Only 6 yes votes were registered.

The Culling of dead fish change had only 5 yes votes so it didn't pass either.

The Convoy rule change also didn't gather enough votes to pass.  Only 5 yes votes on this one.  With  everyone's hectic schedules except those retirees who go up on Thursday its hard to make a convoy mandatory.   I will tell you its really nice to have help along side the road if you break down when the unexpected happens.

The Change to drop 4th place money didn't fly either.  Only 8 yes entered for this one.  Seems a lot of us like 4th place.  Maybe not the money....but the recognition. It looks great on your resume.

The proposal to stop the Club from paying the gas expense for a member "forced" to fish by himself also failed with only 3 yes votes.

The final proposal was changing the wording about the "acting" Tournament Director to make it say Assistant Tournament Director.  It also failed to get a majority vote as only 11 votes were given.  By using the term "acting" it could already mean Assistant but not limit us if both the Tournament Director or Assistant couldn't make it to the tournament.

So in conclusion....NONE of the changes that were proposed were voted in.  The 2019 season rules of which there are many will be the same ones we used successfully during the 2018 season.
Seems like the Majority wins!

2019 E-Board

Since there was no other nominations for E-board members and no one else wanted to step up and take office the 2018 E-board will become the 2019 E-board. As the Secretary for the last 5 years I'll take that as a compliment that I'm doing a good job because I'd really hate to think that you all are a bunch of Lazy sum bitches....

So meet your 2019 E-board

President:  Jeff Weaver
VP / Treasurer: Dave Nason
Secretary : Dave Bock
Tournament Director: Bill Armstrong
Asst. Tournament Director: Brian Nall

New Business:

The Cookout sheet was passed around again during the meeting.  We were looking for volunteers to do the cleanup and cooking however at the meeting the Food Getter backed out. Since no one was able to take over with such short notice the annual Presidents Appreciation Dinner Cookout was canceled.
As a result the E-board met and decided that the money that would of been spent on those delicious steaks and baked potatoes with all the fixings would not be thrown into the fish-off as recommended.  Instead the money would be used to offset the cost of the year end Awards Banquet dinner.

The Awards Banquet is set.  It's going to be held on the 14th of December at Sonny's Barbecue on Navy Blvd starting at 6:00pm.  Make plans to attend.  Don't forget to bring a guest too!

From the Tournament Director:

Payouts for the September tournament were handed out.

Congrats to all those who received a paycheck.
Great job!

The draw for the October Tournament was conducted.

Drawn out were 15 boaters with 6 Co-Anglers for the October Tournament to be held at Lay Lake.

Meeting was adjourned 7:50 pm

October Tournament:

The October Fish-Off Tournament was held on Lay Lake in Alabama at the lower Dam Landing.  We stayed close by at the Inn of Clanton off Exit 208 on Hwy 65.
We had 15 boats with 5 Co-Anglers make the trip up  to Lay Lake.  But not with out problems.

John "3-Wheel"  Buck dropped an axle on his trailer but managed to tie up one side and use his second axle to limp him there and back.

Cliff "No Talon" Armstrong managed to shear the bolts off the bracket holding his expensive Talon to the boat dragging it along the freeway.  The roads around Montgomery are brutal.

Bill "No Start" Armstrong's even got into some action.  His boat wouldn't start Friday morning even after changing a starter solenoid.  We diagnosed he had a bad starter all because Bill mentioned he let the smoke out of it.

Since we had plenty of empty back seats Bill's partner Dave Nason shifted over to fish with the first Solo boater drawn out which was Jere Jaillite.  Bill moved over to fish with Roger Helm.  Good move for Dave as his new partner was on fish.

The October Fish Off tournament was our last 2 day tournament of the season. With lots of money on the line we had great participation. Well on the boater side of the equation anyway.

Most of us had the opportunity to pre-fish but found that the conditions each day were different. Friday was a beautiful day with clear sky's and the fish busting shad all over. An excellent Crank bait bite for sure but then Saturday morning found us with overcast skies that led to moderate/heavy rain for about an hour during the mid morning hours.  The temperature then dropped by mid afternoon on the back of the front that passed us.

Sunday morning was a whole different day with all of us breaking out long pants and heavy jackets as the temps went down to the low 50's. And don't forget the 15 mph winds coming from the North.

We caught 78 fish on Saturday with 12 limits weighed in while Sunday cooled down with only 55 fish and 4 limits.  Total weight was 233.41 pounds for the 133 fish caught.  5 of them fish did not survive our weekend excursion.

Big Fish Honors of the weekend went to John Russell Buck who showed up with a nice 4.51 lb Brute on Saturday while Brian Nall took Sunday's honor with a 4.27 lb  Hawg.

Great job guys !

Tournament Results:

1st Place
Brian Nall

Our 2018 Co-Angler of the Year Brian Nall proved he truly earned his title by whacking us all at the Fish-Off.
Brian has a nice limit on Saturday weighing 8.99 pounds putting him in 9th place for the day.  But on Sunday during the toughest of conditions he managed to catch the heaviest stringer of the tournament.
Weighing 13.11 pounds they propelled him up to the top spot while everyone else struggled.  Brian's 2-day total of 10 fish weighed 22.10 pounds.

This is Brian's second Win of the Season!

Great job!

Congrats Brian!

2nd Place
Jere Jaillite

Jerry also managed to catch a limit of fish both days.  His 9.08 pounds Saturday added to the 11.6 pounds he caught on Sunday totaled 20.68 pounds.
This is Jere' 3 time in the money and not a bad tournament to finish 2nd in.  As it's the Fish-off if should be good money.  Probably pay his entries fees for at least half of next year.  Or just gas for the next tournament.

Great Job!

Congratulations Jere!

3rd Place
John Russell Buck

John Russsell another Co-Angler this month to find himself in the money slots comes in Third.  A pretty good average when 2 out of only 5 Co-Anglers make the spotlight compared to the 15 boaters entered.
John Russell was leading the tournament on Saturday with a nice bag weighing 12.92 pounds anchored by the Tournament Big fish of 4.51 pounds.  Sunday he only managed 4 fish for 6.91 pounds giving him a two day total of 19.83 pounds which was good enough for Third Place.  His third Third Place finish this season.

Great Job!

Congratulations John Russell!

4th Place
Jeff Weaver

The place they tried to get rid of....4th place bragging rights belongs to our President Jeff Weaver.  Jeff also had limits of fish both days.  His two day total tipped the scales at 18.48 pounds.  Jeff also had Brian Nall in his boat....so Jeff's boat total was 40.58 pounds of fish.   I'd say they had a great weekend!
This is Jeff's 3rd 4th place finish this year.  I'll bet he didn't vote to remove this spot.

Great Job!

Congratulations Jeff!

AOY Analysis:

Okay still we have a Winner!

The 2018 Angler of the Year Award goes to.......drum roll......

LEE BRANNON

Lee actually had the AOY race sewed up last month and didn't need to even fish this month.  It's a good thing too because he didn't too to well this month.  No pressure I guess.  He finished 12 his second worse showing this year.  Looking back though Lee had a great year and truly earned the Title of Angler off the Year for the 2018 Season.  He won 3 tournaments during the year.  Placed 2nd in one, placed 3rd in another, 4th in two others, 5 in two more and a 6th just to name a few.

Great Job Lee!

The race to be solved this tournament was for the remaining Top Six positions.  Jere and Mack were only 1 point apart and all Jere had to do was finish ahead of Mack which normally is no easy feat.  Well Jere did great with a 2nd place finish and Mack did poorly with a 14th place so Jere keeps his number 2 position to finish off the Season in Second Place.

Great Job Jere!

Mack was in third place going into the tournament with a 9 point lead. But Jeff Weaver also had a great tournament this month finishing 4th.  This enabled Jeff to amass enough points to jump over Mack and claim the Third Place spot.

Great Job Jeff!

Mack drops to 4th for the season end but don't think he didn't do a great job.  He only fished 11 tournaments and the one he missed was a costly 2 day tournament.  Compare that fact to the top 5 guys who  fished every tournament and you can see Mack did a great job.

Great Job Mack!

Brian Nall jumps up one spot to settle in at Fifth Place for the year end standings.  Our only Co-Angler making it in the Top Six this year.

Great Job Brian!

Rounding out the Top Six is Tony Boyett who missed 3 tournaments during the season but ended up with 101 fishing points.  He averaged better than 4th place points for the 9 tournaments he did fish.

Great Job Tony!

Great job to the Top Six!

CO-AOY Analysis:

Brian Nall also sewed up the Co-Angler of the Year spot last month and could of stayed home.  But no he had to come and take all our money by winning the tournament.  Great job on a very successful year as a Co-angler and valued member of our club.  You inspire us and we are humbled in your presence.

Great Job Brian!

Finishing off in the Silver position is Dave Nason who also had a great Year End tournament.  Dave finished 6th with 9 fish weighing in at 15.39 pounds  Last year Dave finished Bronze (3rd) and this year he improved on that finishing Silver (2nd)  Maybe next year will be his year.

Congrats Dave!

Coming on strong since joining the club in the middle of the Season is John Russell Buck.  He finishes the Season with the Bronze (3rd) place position.  The way he's fishing Dave Nason is going to have a tough time and really have to earn it next year.

Great Job John Russell!

Yellow Ball Winner!

Lee Brannon

Lee just couldn't end the season quietly.  He drew out the Yellow Ball on Saturday to earn even more money this season.  Congrats Lee!

Yellow Ball Winner!

Brian Nall

Not to be out done....Brian also drew the Yellow Ball after winning the tournament and Big Fish Honors on Sunday.  Congrats Brian!
