Minutes of the Meeting:
The April meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was brought to order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 24th of April at
Founaris Bros. Greek Restaurant by Jeff Weaver. We had 21 members
present. Once again even the Secretary showed up. Must be because he
wanted to take his boat and the club failed to pass a rule that would
of allowed a working man to be a boater if his job required him to work
during the hours the meeting was being held.
Old Business
The minutes of last months meeting were waived by the membership.
The treasury report was read and accepted.
The Booray pot keeps climbing while we are still looking for that 6 pound fish. It's now up to $248.
This month's 50/50 was won by Terry Ferdinandt.
Ole Roger "Tow Strap" Helm our slammer winnner last year was absent this month due to blowing
up
his motor during one of his other club tournaments. Maybe he'll have it
rebuilt before the May Miller's Ferry two day tournament.
New Business:
Preparations for the April Big Chicken Dinner where hashed out. Since
Dave Hall was absent Wes and John Russell stepped up to provide us with
all the fixin's. Promises to be a great meal....except
next
year we might want to rethink the Walmart Chicken and go with the KFC
Chicken. Yea it might cost a little more but that just means our 50/50
committee needs to work a little harder to build up our special fund.
From the Tournament Director:
Since Bill Armstrong was absent from the meeting our Assistant
Tournament Director Brian Nall filled in and ran a highly efficient
draw in which he pared up 6 Co-anglers with 11 boaters.
Payouts for the March Tournament were handed out.
Congrats to all those who received a paycheck.
Great job!
Meeting was adjourned at 7:27 pm.
The April Tournament was held once again at Lake Jordan. Even though we
were one week later this year due to Easter weekend falling on our
normally scheduled weekend it was still a great tournament. You had to
have at least 20 pounds just to get in the TOP TEN! A weather front
went though on Thursday and for those who prefished on Friday it was
overcast but by the start of the tournament all the clouds cleared up
to be bluebird skies. Morning temps were cool in the 50's with
afternoon temps climbing up to the mid 70's. The water was heavily
stained and being held at the normal pool height we are used to.
Friday the wind was blowing hard from up river smoothing out to hardly any by Saturday and Sunday. Sunday up river early
was thick fog too.
At the scales everybody was in a pretty good mood...except for maybe
the three who didn't have a limit of fish. Of the 17 who fished 14
caught limits. In fact we were only 6 fish short from maxing out our
catch. 79 fish for a total of 178.29 pounds. On Sunday we also had 14
limits officially caught. One other 6 fish limit was
disqualified....more on that later. Sunday's 76 fish weighed in at
162.42 pounds for a two day total of 155 fish weighing 340.71 pounds. 9
fish didn't survive the Hawg Hunters but went to a good cause as they
were donated to a family in need.
Of
course it wouldn't be a true Hawg Hunter tournament if there weren't a
bunch of other tournaments scheduled the same time as us. The Boy Scout
ramp parking lot was pretty full but had mostly cleared out by our
4:00pm weigh-in. Most of the points all around the lake were pretty
full too. Seems like everybody was fishing used water but we still
managed to catch lots of fish. Sunday was a piece of cake at the ramp
and pretty quiet on the points.

1st Place
Kevin had an outstanding tournament bringing in two nice stringers of
fish. On Saturday he caught the second heaviest bag of the day weighing
13.84 pounds while on Sunday he followed it up with another nice bag
weighing 12.47 pounds. Kevin averaged 2.63 pounds a fish!
Great job!
Congrats Kevin!
2nd Place
Dave started out Saturday with the heaviest stringing of day weighing
14.15 pounds. He was the hero for the day until Kevin came in and edged
him out of his First place spot by .29 pounds or just a little less
than 4 ounces. Dave's Sunday limit weighed 11.87 pounds giving him a
2.60 pound average per fish.
Great Job!
Congratulations Dave!
3rd Place
Buddy also had a great tournament including catching big fish for the
weekend. Saturday his limit tipped the scales at 12.74 pounds anchored
with the Tournament Big Fish of 3.60 pounds. On Sunday he followed it
up with another 12-pound bag. 12.24 pounds to be exact. Buddy’s two-day
total was just .02 pounds’ shy of the 25-pound mark. This is Buddy’s
first tournament this season fishing with us and he’s already won
enough to pay for his dues next year.
Great Job!
Congratulations Buddy!
4th Place
Tony rounds out our top Four places just .15 pounds behind 3rd. Tony
had a nice 13.08-pound bag on Saturday followed up by a 11.75-pound bag
on Sunday. One thing to point out is that if not for Terry Smith having
a dead fish penalty on Saturday Tony would have placed just outside the
money. Terry’s two-day total after penalties was 24.72 pounds.
We had 9 dead fish penalties handed out during the tournament resulting
in two members dropping one place Terry Smith and Lee Brannon while
Dave Bock’s 1 dead fish penalty cost him two places or 2 points when
you look at it that way. This tournament was real close on the numbers.
Lake Martin close…but with way bigger weights were involved. 24 pounds
just to get in the Top Six and over 20 pounds just to get in the top
Ten!.
Great Job!
Congratulations Tony!

Well we are half way there! 6 Tournaments done 6 to go. This month we
have a change in the lead! John Russell tripped up and let Jeff Weaver
jump ahead of him by one point. Looking at the tournament results Jeff
beat John Russell by .05 pounds which is only .8 ounces. Was it a tight
tournament or what? Except for Bill Armstrong that is who finished last
with 9 pounds.
Anyway we have a new Leader in the AOY race. Jeff Weaver followed closely by John
Russell.
Just 2 points back is Kevin Simmons who jumped up from 4th last month to 3rd this month with his win at Lake Jordan.
Lee Brannon climbs up the leaderboard 2 notches from sixth place last month to capture 4th
place this month. Lee also had over 24 pounds of fish for the two-day tournament!
John Buck falls from 3rd to 5th place this month after his self-induced
disqualification on Sunday. Explanation coming soon so stay tuned.
Also dropping this month is Jere Jaillite who didn’t participate in the
tournament so he drops from 5th down to 6th place. Whoa…. wait a minute
hold that thought. Looks like the numbers I published already might be
wrong. It appears I gave Jere 6 tournament points by mistake. Be back
in a minute to refigure all the numbers.
I’m back!
Here's a link to the updated Standings.
Okay…so the numbers don’t look all that bad but, yes I did give Jere 6
tournament points by mistake…. but now I taketh away. Jere remains in
6th place but is now 10 points behind John Buck and only 2 points ahead
of Mack Cramer who is still in 7th place.
Still a lot of fishing to go and it’s a horse race
now! It’s anybody’s guess now.
Great job to the Top Six!

This race is not really a race at all.
John Russell came in early this
season and has been putting a hurt on the other Co-Anglers. His lead
this month jumps up to a whopping 43 points! If he keeps fishing nobody
is going to catch up to him. But it’s not over until the last fish is
weighed!
In the Silver position is Brian Nall with 58 points. He leads Dave
Nason by just 7 points. Dave Nason jumped up and over Terry Ferdinandt
and Dave Hall to claim the Bronze Position but he’s only 1 point ahead
of Terry Smith.
Slammer Nominee:
All righty then…this month we have another Slammer nominee to add to the list this season.
Let’s start by naming him….” Honest John”. Buck that is. It seems John and
Dave Nason were having a great Sunday catching lots of fish and even
getting to cull some out or so they thought. “Honest John” came up to
the scales on Sunday claiming he was disqualified but still wanted to
weigh in his fish as a courtesy to make his pain worse. He said he
fished after catching his 6th fish without culling so he was
disqualifying himself. His bag of fish weighed over 12 pounds and would
have put him in 3rd place with over 25 pounds.
At least John was honest about it…. however, I’ve since heard the real
story of how he fished after catching his 6th fish. I don’t know when
he caught that 6th fish but as it turns out John didn’t know either.
Ole “Honest John” didn’t find out until he had his boat up on the
trailer and was digging his fish out of the live well when he realized
he had 3 fish in the bag and 3 more in the well.
R
emember this is the same John Buck who had us add this very same rule
into our Tournament Rules a couple years back after he made the same
mistake. Most of us just count the floats in the live well as every
fish we catch we but a cull tag on it. Turns out John wasn’t tagging
his bigger fish so he lost track.
Anyway this month’s Slammer Nomination goes
out to “Honest John” Buck. Keeping our tournaments interesting.
Great Job John!
