Pensacola Hawg Hunters

2019 Season

Volume: 22

Minutes of the Meeting:

Our President Jeff Weaver called the monthly Hawg Meeting for July 17 2019 to order at 7:00 pm. At the start of the meeting, we had 21 members present with two and a half guests. One guest was George Colucci returning from last month after completing his guest tournament while the other was Roger Gomez a neighbor of Pete Potter’s. The other “half guest” was John Russell’s son. For you hunters….if you did not know it, we had “deer” everywhere. Three generations of Buck’s at the meeting.

Old Business

Jeff tried to start us out with a little humor to get things rolling but I think the humor was really watching him try to tell the joke he picked out.

The reading of the minutes from the June meeting was waived by the membership.

The Treasurer report was read and accepted.

The Booray winner now stands to win $408 for a 6-pound fish. Who will be the lucky one?

The 50/50 drawing was won by Dave Dyess. $50 to the club and $50 to Dave. Sometimes it really pays to attend one of our meeting.

New Business:

Mack gave a report on the 16” Florida rule and how it affects us at Perdido River and Lake Seminole. The state’s no longer have reciprocal agreements for each state’s waters. If you are fishing in Florida you must meet Florida requirements for licensing and bag limits while if you are in Alabama or Georgia you must meet theirs. Be sure to check the rules and regulations of the waters you are fishing in as a ticket by law enforcement will disqualify you in our tournaments.

Remember your Alabama Fishing license will expire on August 30th but don’t buy it too early. Next month I’ll include links for renewal.

The deadline for making changes to our rules is coming upon us. Submissions of changes have to be turned into an E-board member no later than the August 21st meeting. To make things manageable it type it with the original rule listed, how you want the new rule to read and your comments of why it is necessary to make the change. Submitted electronically to our Secretary would be greatly appreciated. Color to see the change really helps too.

Nominations for the 2020 E-board are coming due. If you want to take the next step to get more involved in our club, speak up. Openings are available for all positions. Only requirement is you have to be motivated. Oh…and be a member for a year.

We also have an opening for a Program Director / Events Coordinator Committee Chairman as recommended by Randy Cole. Let’s try it this way….if you have a special talent and want to share it with the club via a small presentation bring your idea/talent up to our President. I myself could probably hold a presentation on Excel, HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, SQL all the tools used today to maintain the club web page. I know you all would be interested….LOL

If you are interested in purchasing some slider heads….our very own Slider Head Extraordinaire Lee Brannon says he will coordinate a purchase with his Sponsor Charlie Brewer to get some. Contact Lee but it needs to be before the August meeting as he is stocking up for the Fish-off.

From the Tournament Director:

Payouts were handed out for the June Tournament at Escambia River.

Congrats to all those who received paychecks.

Brian says he will continue to the end of the season as our Tournament Director; however, he made his intentions know that he will step back down to the Assistant Tournament Director position for next season. He feels a boater should hold the position. We told him to buy a boat.

The draw was conducted with 14 members and 1 guest going in 8 boats for the one day tournament at Perdido River.

July’s tournament was held on Perdido River at Robertson’s landing right next to Ruby’s fish camp. Parking was crazy as there was two other local club tournaments there with us. We had our 8 boats mixed in with about 20 others. Originally, we were going to split the blast off with the Olive Bass Club but they took their members out to the bridge and left before us. Oh well so much for a good plan of action. Brian Nall “called in sick” so Mack Cramer stepped up and performed the duties of Tournament Director and got us launched out with no other issues.

The weather was hot with the temperatures starting out in the mid 80’s but my mid-morning a heavy rain shower kept us from getting too hot before our 1pm weigh-in. I do not think it affected the fishing much because Perdido River in July is always tough.

At the weigh-in, we had 11 members and one guest catch fish out of 14. Total weight was 38.42 pounds for the 28 fish we caught. No limits again this month. Winning weight was 7.89 pounds. The other club, Olive had a winning weight of 8.41 pounds however we out did them with big fish. Their big fish weighed 2.89 while we had two fish weigh in at over 3 pounds. Mack Cramer won big fish with a 3.54-pound bucket mouth while George Colucci caught one weighing 3.41 pounds. Our guest Roger Gomez caught 3 fish weighing 4.33 pounds and would of finished 3rd had he been a member. Maybe next month!

Tournament Results:

First Place

1st Place

Mack finally pulls off a First Place win this season. It’s not that he hasn’t been in the money before because he’s had two second place finishes in December and February. His 4 fish weighed 7.89 pounds anchored by the Big Fish of the Tournament of 3.54 pounds.

Great job!

Congratulations Mack!

Second Place

2nd Place

Fishing his first tournament as a member George managed to catch 3 fish weighing 5.32 pounds. His bag included a nice fish over 16 inches that tipped the scales to 3.41 pounds. I’d like to think it was his guide service that helped him….but I’ll admit he is a good fisherman.

Great Job!

Congratulations George!

Third Place

3rd Place

John finished 3rd place with four fish weighing 4.26 pounds. No big fish but he caught 3-4 more fish than the rest of us. This is John’s second third place finish this season but he has won two of our tournaments “back to back” in December and January.

Great Job!

Congratulations John!

Fourth Place

4th Place

Tony rounds up the top four this month with 4 fish weighing in at 4.11 pounds. He also is no stranger to the top four as he’s won a tournament in May and finished 4th in April.

Great Job!

Congratulations Lee!

AOY Analysis:

Place Top Six Hawg Hunters Points

Jeff is still leading the pack this month. In fact he even gained a couple more points to put him 8 points ahead of everyone else. We have only 4 more tournaments to go until we determine a winner. Will he be able to score another victory? Only the fish gods know right now.

John Russell still holds the second place slot but Lee Brannon has equaled the points up on him. Technically a tie for the month but not for the season as our rules won’t let us. Applying the rules as if it were the end of the season John Russell would be leading. We go by most total points then most total fish caught then most total live fish caught. John Russell and Lee both have 41 fish caught but live fish is where John Russell breaks it out as Lee has weighed in 3 dead fish this season. One thing is for sure every point counts. Hat/shirt & meeting points will hurt you when it gets this close.

4th place is Mack Cramer who jumps up and over Kevin this month. Mack was 2 points behind Kevin but now coming off his First Place win at Perdido River Mack now sits solid in 4th with a 6 point lead.

Kevin Simmons drops down to 5th and has 7 points on 6th place John Buck.

Since Jere Jaillite choose to fish with the other club at Perdido he is still in 7th place but has now dropped to 18 points behind the Top Six with Tony Boyett charging up to 1 point behind Jere.

Great job to the Top Six!

CO-AOY Analysis:

Place CO-Angler of the Year Race Points
Gold

Silver

Bronze

John Russell keeps widening the lead. This month he jumps to 60 points ahead. We still have four more tournaments to go but it is getting closer to calling him a winner. If he stays home the next four tournaments and Brian Nall our current Silver Position holder wins the next four tournaments or at least gains 15 points on John Russell the next 4 months then we could possibly call Brain the winner. If not then John Russell has a pretty good chance.

Taking over the third Bronze position is Terry Smith with 78 points. Just 2 points behind Brian.

Yellow Ball Winner!

John Buck

Slammer Nominee:

We do not have any Slammer Nominees this month however we do have another “Hero to Zero” to mention. Wes Chancery won last month’s tournament at Escambia River. This month he placed last place. At least he caught a fish. Way to go Wes!
