Minutes of the Meeting:
The January meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was
brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 16th of January at
Founaris
Bros.
Greek Restaurant by Jeff Weaver. We had 23 members present, 2
prospective members and 1 guest. Terry Ferdinandt & Wesley
Chancery were the plebes facing the death squad for
membership. Derek Head was our guest to see if he
wanted to join our ragged bunch of old nasty smelly grumpy
fishermen on a good day.
Old Business
Jeff started the meeting with a little biit of humor. Always a
good laugh and sets up the meeting for a good time.
Unaminous Votes were given for our two newest members Terry Ferdinandt
& Wesley Chancery.
Welcome to the Hawg Hunters guys we look forward to fishing with you!
The
minutes of last months meeting were waived by
the membership. Probably because the Voted in Secretary is
always missing at the meetings. Seems we should of voted in
someone who could show up to the meetings every month. You
know one of them old retired guys who all the time in the world to
enjoy their passions. Like maybe Jere Jaillite....who does an
excellent job of keeping our club member address book up to date.
The
treasury report was read and accepted. Seems like the pots are
growing.
The
Booray pot's even getting bigger. See Buddy Yates for details but
one thing for certain is we are still looking for a 6 pound Hawg to
win. We've managed to hold off Lee Brannon for a couple of months
now....but spring is just around the corner. For some of us a 6
pound Largemouth Bass would be a lifetime fish.
This month's 50/50 was won again by someone who was willing to
support
the club and buy a raffle ticket. We are currently keeping the
name a secret to avoid being reported to the IRS during tax season now
that the government shutdown is over.
The Awards Banquet was held back in December but we did a mini ceremony
for those who were unable to attend. Mack Cramer and Tony Boyett
received their due recognition for a year well fished. Mack
finished up the season in 4th place while Tony ended up in 6th.
Great job guys!
Even though I myself didn't get to go I want to thank Mack for offering
up his home to the club for the National College Football Championship
game. I sure it was a grand time with lots of good food and
company. Too bad Alabama couldn't make it to the party either.
Anyway....thanks Mack.
New Business:
Seems there is a lake we didn't know about. Probably because we
can't get our big boats into it and run 10 miles away from the ramp to
fish. It's calleed Lake Stone and a bioligst contacted us
to see if we are interested in the management of the fishery.

From the Tournament Director:
Payouts for the
December Tournament were handed out.
Congrats to all those who received a paycheck.
Great job!
The
draw for the January Tournament was conducted.
Drawn out were 10 boaters with 7 Co-Anglers for the mighty Fish River
Tournament.
Meeting was adjourned 7:28pm.
January Tournament:
The
January Tournament was held at on the mighty Fish River at the Hwy 98
Bridge Landing. Temps started out in the mid 60's
which was pretty nice for a January tournament. At least we
didn't have to chop a hole in the ice to drop our boats in. The
sky was over cast with the promise of rain through out day with a cold
front passing through after weigh-in. The tide was incoming
for most of the day. In fact with the wind and incoming tide by
the time we weighed in at 4pm the parking lot soon became
underwater. The rain wasn't bad...just enough to make you put on
and take off your rainsuit repeatedly thoughtout the day.
Come weigh-in time we weighed in 41 fish weighing a measly 42.54 pounds
making the fish average just over 1 pound each. Big fish was a
whopping 1.76 pounds caught by Terry Smith.
We only had 3 limits and those guys took the top 3 spots. It
turned out to be a tough day for most of us. We just scrapped by
with a couple of fish each. 3 didn't even manage that.
Who is this guy who thinks he can walk on water?
Tournament Results:
1st Place
John Buck
Two month's ago we had Junior in the Winner's circle. Last month
we had Senior. This month John Buck does it again with back to
back wins. John found 5 keepers weighing in at 6.24 pounds
beating the rest of us by a whole pound. Are you sure he only
had 5 fish?
Great job!
Congrats John!
2nd Place
John Russell Buck
John Russell's in the money again! 3rd time this year in 3
tournaments. This time he manages a second place finish. He
also had a limit of fish. His 5 fish tipped the scales at 5.28
pounds. Did you catch who is partner was for the
tournament? His dad.....boy these Buck "boys" are going to be
hard to beat this year.
Great Job!
Congratulations John Russell!
3rd Place
Kevin Simmons
Kevin and his partner managed to find a limit of fish also.
Kevin's limit was just .02 pounds behind John Russell's. His 5
fish were 5.26 pounds.
This is Kevin's first showing in the money slots this year but I'm sure
it won't be the last.
Great Job!
Congratulations Kevin!
4th Place
Jere Jaillite
After skunking last month Jere jumps up and takes charge to finish 4th
in the tournament. Good thing we didn't vote to eliminate the 4th
place spot.
Jere caught 4 keepers that weighed in at 3.85 pounds. Doesn't
seem impressive to you....well compare it to Jere's tournament last
month at Escambia and I'll bet it felt like a million bucks to
Jere. I know a lot of us in the two fish category and below wish
we would of had just one or two more keepers to brings to the scales.
Great Job!
Congratulations Jere!
AOY Analysis:
Three tournaments down and we have a little bit of movement in the Top
Six. The top three spots are getting father away from us while
the bottom three spots are changing.
Leading the race is John Russell who moved from 1 point ahead to now 11
points ahead. Good move John Russell.
In the #2 spot we actually have a Tie with Jeff Weaver and Lee Brannon
each having 48 points. If we were to end it all now Jeff would
take the spot as he has a bigger stringer weighed in than Lee so
far. They both have the same number of fish weighed in so
we have to look at the 3rd criteria for breaking a tie at the end of
the year.
Jumping up two notches is John Buck of his fresh win at Fish River to
claim the number 4 spot. He's just 6 points behind 2nd.
Also jumping up two spots to take over 5th place is Kevin Simmons just
4 points behind John
Rounding out our Top Six is Mack Cramer who slid down this month with a
dismal 11th place finish. Even Dave Bock beat him out of the back
of his own boat.
Great job to the Top Six!
CO-AOY Analysis:
John Russell is leading all of us right now and he's doing it out
the back of everyone's boat. Could he continue his hot streak and
win both Awards?
This month John Russell's lead jumps to 24 points ahead of the 2nd
place Co-Angler almost becoming untouchable but we still have a lot of
fishing to go!
Still maintaining 2nd place is Dave Hall whose been slipping slowly
into the abyss. Don't do it Dave!
In the 3rd place Bronze postion we have another Dave. (Just how
many Dave's do we have in the club?) Dave Nason jumps up and
takes over now with 25 points just 34 points behind John Russell.
Well one thing is for sure.....you can't get any points if you don't
show up and fish in the tournaments. You joined the club because
you wanted to fish.
Slamer Nominee!
Normally we don't nominate members to the slammer award for
maintenance problems that occur during a tournament but this month I
just have to do it.
It all started at the draw that was held at the meeting. Seems
our newest two club members Wes and Terry were drawn out together to
fish the Fish River Tournament. Go figure, they were just voted
in the club and then get "stuck" with each other at the draw.
Well Wes is the boater in this instance and after successfully meeting
his partner they started the drive to the river. As told to
me.....on their way to the ramp one of the trailer wheels decided to
depart from the trailer. Not a flat tire or a blown tire
BUT a MISSING TIRE. It was there....then it wasn't!
Hub and all. Now who does that? Our newbe of course!
Lucky for Terry we still have the solo boater rule in place and there
was an empty seat with another boater for him to fish the
tournament. Unfortunatly for Wes he didn't make the
tournament. Turns out he didn't have a spare and had to call a
wrecker to come pick him up.
Boating 101....have a spare everything!
Great way to start your membership Wes!
We look forward to learning more interesting things about you.
