Minutes of the Meeting:
The March meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters
was
brought to
order at 7:00 P.M on Wednesday the 20th of March at
Founaris
Bros.
Greek Restaurant by Jeff Weaver. We had only 16 members present.
We were even honored to have our Secretary show up for his first
meeting this year.
Old Business
The
minutes of last months meeting were waived by
the membership.
The
treasury report was read and accepted.
The
Booray pot is now up to $208 for a 6 pound Hawg.
This month's 50/50 was won by John Buck.
Roger Helm was in attendance so we "roasted" him and delivered his
Slammer Award he so well deserved during last season. Here's a
picture of what he did to earn the coveted award:
Congrats Roger "Tow Strap" Helm!
New Business:
Speaking of Roger he was also gracious enough to bring in a bag of
baits to raffle off to the club. The club netted a $20
gain. Thanks Roger!
Preparations for the March Fish Fry were hashed out as to who was bring
what. Promises to be a great meal!
From the Tournament Director:
Our Assistant Tournament Director Brian Nall did a great job in
his duties for the night. I don't think I heard a single "F-bomb"
dropped all night.
Payouts for the
February Tournament were handed out.
Congrats to all those who received a paycheck.
Great job!
The
draw for the March Tournament was conducted.
Drawn out were 9 boaters with only 3 Co-Anglers for the two day Lay
Lake Tournament.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:27 pm.
March Tournament:
The March Tournament this year was held at Lay Lake up in Clanton
Alabama. A change from us going to Lake Seminole every
year. We had slim participation but still enough members to call
it a tournament by our rules. We only need two boats and four
members to call it a Club tournament.
Anyway we had 9 boats with 3 Co-Anglers and 6 empty seats make it up to
Inn of Clanton where we were staying. Uneventful trip...not like
last time we headed that way with Cliff Armstrong dragging a Talon on
the highway.
Saturday morning we started out with them temps in the mid 40's a
little on the cool side. Down at the lake we had a fog delay as
the water was warmer than the air. Instead of blasting off we
idled out and most of us filled in the little pockets south of the ramp
trying to catch a fish before the fog cleared enough for us to run to
our first spots. There was hardly any breeze so we had to
wait about 2 hours for the sun to warm things up and get rid of the
fog. The temps rose up to the low 70's come way in time.
Sunday morning was a little bit cooler but no fog. Water
temp averaged around 58-59 degrees with some 61 degree water found in
the backs of the creeks or pockets. A little bit too cold for the
spawn yet.
At the weigh ins everybody caught fish both days!
On Saturday we were just 6 fish short from every one having their
limits. We had 9 out of 12 limits weighed in. 54 fish
caught weighing 104.28 pounds.
On Sunday we were 8 fish short. 52 fish caught weighing
97.53 pounds with 8 limits caught.
Two day total of 106 fish caught weighing 201.81 pounds with just 12
members. That more than doubles the fish caught and weights for
the past 4 tournaments this year!
The fishing truly is better fishing up North.....lol.
A Tournament within a Tournament
Brian Nall and I, Dave Bock, decided on Sunday to have a little mini
tournament for ourselves. After Brian caught his limit and I
struggled to trying to catch mine we switched gears and went cat
fishing
for a little while to see who could catch the biggest one.

Tournament Results:
1st Place
Jere Jaillite
Back to Back Wins!
Last month Jere whipped our butts and this month he did it again.
Jere brought in two nice limits of fish. On Saturday he had 10.42
pounds anchored by a 2.53lb Spot while on Sunday he upgraded to a 13.59
pound bad. Sunday he managed a 3.29 pound kicker which won him
Big Fish money. Beating Jeff Weaver out of Big fish money by .01
pound which comes out to between 1/8 and 3/16 of an ounce.
His two day wining total was 24.01 pounds!
Great job!
Congrats Jere!
2nd Place
Brian Nall
Brian also had a great tournament with two over 10 pound sacks for the
weekend. On Saturday he started culling around 2
o'clock to weigh in 10.66 pounds while Sunday he managed to cull
up to 10.39 pounds. His two day total was 21.05
pounds just 1 pound short of last year's amazing win at the October
Fish-off on this same Lay Lake.
Great Job!
Congratulations Brian!
3rd Place
Roger Helm
Roger managed to make the drive over from Jacksonville for our first
two tournament of the season. He found a sack of fish on Saturday
that went over 10 pounds and managed to stay in the money for the
weekend. His two day total was 18.62 pounds for 10 fish. He
finished 4th on Saturday for the golf ball draw and upgraded to 3rd
place for the weekend.
Great Job!
Congratulations Jeff!
4th Place
Wesley Chancery
Wes had an exciting weekend. From not making it to the Fish River
tournament due to loosing a wheel off his trailer to Zeroing at the
Tensaw tournament to putting a whopping on us on Saturday. His
Saturday 5 fish limit weighed in at 13.37 pounds. He also managed
Big Fish of the Tournament with a 3.42 pound spotted bass.
On Sunday....not so lucky. He only managed catch 3 fish and a
stump.
Dropping him to 4th place with a two day total of 17.75 pounds.
I would be amiss if I didn't mention that Wes held Jeff Weaver back
from 4th place by just .02 pounds which is double the 1/8 to 3/16 of an
ounce we talked about earlier.
Great Job!
Congratulations Wes!
AOY Analysis:
This month we have a Tie in the Angler of the Year Race!
John Russell and Jeff Weaver both have 85 total points. A mere
flip of the coin could determine....oh wait that's only during
weigh-ins.
If it was the end of the Season right now we'd have to break out the
rules because you know we got lots of rules. Anyway we'd go to
the next criteria which is The individual with the largest number of
legal fish weighed in for the year. In this case John Russell
would come up on Top with 21 fish while Jeff has only 20. Great
job guys or should I say Jeff as he gained 6 points on John Russell to
tie him.
John Buck maintains his 3rd place ranking but just 1 point behind is
Kevin Simmons who jumped over Mack this month. Kevin sits in 4th
Place just 10 points behind our current leaders while Mack drops all
the way down to 7th Place due to no participation. Ouch!
Jere with his back to back wins slides up from 7th to take over 5th
place with 71 points. Great job
Jerry Jere !
Rounding our our Top Six is last years Angler of the Year Lee Brannon.
Great job to the Top Six!
CO-AOY Analysis:
Our Co-Angler of the year race is not really a race at all this
year. John Russell made a killing early on and now is cruising
through to Victory. We still have a lot of fishing to go and if
he continues to participate he just may make it. Why you
say....well right now he has a 39 point lead!
Could we have a Co-Angler of the Year also win the Club Angler of the
Year? John Russell's definitely has the opportunity but
there's some pretty good "sticks" nipping at his heals.
Jumping up into the Silver/2nd place spot is Brian Nall who now has 46
points. Brian's 2nd place finish at Lay Lake this month really
helped him move up. Of course the other two guys Dave Hall and
Dave Nason didn't show so Brian had an easy advantage.
Sliding down to the Bronze/3rd place spot is Dave Hall with 41 points.
Yellow Ball Winner!
Brian "Catfish" Nall
Slammer Nominees:
Hooyah! So this
month we have two slammer nominees. The first one occurred on
Saturday. Ole John Russell "dock" Buck. In his eagerness to
help launch the many solo-boaters we had during the tournament he
managed to back Wes Chancery's truck into the boat dock.
Left a couple of scratches on the bumper he did. Now I know
it was really foggy Saturday morning when we launched but 8 other boats
and trucks managed to miss it. How do you hit the middle of
boat/trailer combination unless you come down the ramp like a snake
walk.
Slammer Nominee #2:
Our second nominee is none other than Wes "stump" Chancery. Also
know as Wes "no spare" Chancery from a previous nomination just two
months ago.
So picture this....Wes joins the club in December, does his guest
tournament, gets voted in, draws out as a boater then doesn't show due
to not having a spare wheel after throwing his off on the way to
January tournament. Then zero's at the February tournament to be
the hero on Saturday with a kick-ass 13 pound bag during the March
tournament. Did I mention it was Wes's truck that was involved in
John Russell's snake walk down the ramp.
So Sunday Wes was running though Paint Creek to get back to his fish
and slams into a stump with his pretty boat and lower gear case as seen
here:
(click on picture for larger image)
Wes tore some fiberglass off the bottom and also bent his prop shaft on
that stump he hit.
Oh and to top it all off.....the crank bait bite he had going on
Saturday ended with him losing the only lure he had. So he ran 30
miles down to Prattville to the Bass Pro Shops and Academy to buy a
bunch more. Well they didn't work on Sunday as he only managed
to find 3 little fish for 4 pounds.
One thing we can say for sure.....our new younger club members have
sure added excitement to our club!
