Pensacola Hawg Hunters

2020 Season

Volume: 23

Minutes of the Meeting:

The month of May still found us adhering to the CDC guidelines for infectious diseases so we could not have the monthly meeting. We’ll see how next month goes to see if we can have the June meeting. Or you could just come fish with us as we have time to discuss business at the weigh-ins in the wide open spaces.

Old Business

Not much in the way of old business however Mack is going to put another order in for those unofficial shirts. See Mack if you are interested in one.

The booray pot should be close to $800 by now. We are still looking for that 6 pound fish caught during tournament hours. Dave Dyess caught one last month but it was on pre-fish day.

Nobody has won the 50/50 in past two months. If you would like to donate to the club to increase our special fund you are more than welcome to. Of course we’ve skipped one cookout too.

New Business:

Not really any new business since we are not having meetings. We’ll keep you posted via e-mail or text as to what’s going to happen with the meeting and draw for the June tournament. Maybe the world will open up.

From the Tournament Director:

The payouts for the April Tournament was handed out at the lake to the top four anglers last month. Congrats if you were one of the lucky ones. Roger Helm drove all the way over from Jacksonville just to get his First Place monies.

May’s Tournament was a one-day tournament held up at Miller’s Ferry. We launched out of Ellis landing. Most of the guys stayed overnight Friday as Miller’s Ferry is still at 100 miles away. I drove up after work Friday night at arrived at the ramp around 2:30am. Made for a real long day.

We had 10 boats carrying 14 anglers for the tournament. Blast off went around 5:15 am on the main river with half the club going north while the other half went south. At the weigh-in 13 out of 14 anglers caught fish. Could have been everybody but Tony only fishes to win. He threw his two little fish back without weighing them in. Anyway we caught 49 fish weighing 79.23 pounds which brings our total fish count up to 478 for 780.80 pounds on the year. Unfortunately we also had 3 dead fish. As far as limits go we had 6 limits. Big fish wise we had two till the scales over 4 pounds. Big Fish Honors went to Dave Dyess with a 4.89 pound brute while Carlito caught the other that weighed 4.66 pounds.

Dave also found a nice bag of fish. His limit weighed 12.01 pounds. Dave was last, last month but can’t be counted out as he’s almost the “Hero” this month. Dave’s Big Fish Win of 4.89 pounds really increased his total weight.

Great Job!

Congratulations Dave!

Third Place

3rd Place

Carlito was one short of a limit but the four fish he had were good ones. They weighed 9.54 pounds. Amazing what a good kicker will do.

Great Job!

Congratulations Carlito!

Fourth Place

4th Place

Kevin was another one who managed to catch a limit of bucket mouths. His 5 fish weighed 8.36pounds with a nice kicker of 2.50 pounds.

Great Job!

Congratulations Kevin!

AOY Analysis:

Place Top Six Hawg Hunters Points

Now there are seven tournaments in the record books with five more to go before we can announce an Angler of the Year winner. Dave Dyess is still going strong as our current first place holder. Last month he let his lead slip a little but he picked it back up this month. Coming off a Second place finish in the May tournament Dave added to his lead of 5 points.

John Russell finished 6th at Miller’s Ferry so he was able to maintain his Second Place standing now with 112 points. He’s still 8 points ahead of Third.

Last month we had a 3-way tie for Third Place but John Buck fresh off his Win at Miller’s Ferry jumps up to command the spot with 104 points.

Settling in to Fourth Place is Carlito just 2 points back with 102 points.

In Fifth Place is Mack Cramer who’s losing ground on the AOY standings. Mack finished 9th this month which didn’t help him much.

Rounding out the Top Six is Lee Brannon who now has 95 points made possible by Terry Ferdinandt’s fall from tied in 4th last month down to 7th this month after fishing a dismal tournament.
