Minutes of the Meeting:

The August meeting of the Hawg Hunters was brought to order at Fournias
Brothers restaurant by our President John Buck. We had 17 members
present at the meeting. We started at the meeting at 7:00 pm.
Old Business
The minutes from last meeting were read and accepted.
The treasury report was also read and accepted by the membership.
The Booray pot started over as Carlito won the whole kit and
caboodle last month with his 5.63 pound Hawg. This was your chance to
get in. Hopefully you did. This time we are going to start with a 5
pound fish. Pretty easy….catch the largest Bass over 5 pounds in a Hawg
Hunter Tournament and win the pot.

The 50/50 was won by Buddy Yates.
Club Hats: John Buck was going to bring a box of club hats that
he just got embroidered but in true John fashion he brought the wrong
box to the meeting. I guess he wanted to show us what they looked like
before embroidery. They are going to be for sale at $15 he promises.
New Business
We had 18 Rule changes submitted to be discussed next month and then to
be voted on at the October Meeting. I guess we are feeling the pain
from missing the opportunity from last year. It will take a 2/3's
majority vote of the members eligible to vote. We have only 11 members
eligible to vote this year. Since the club has 26 members on the roster that
means less than half the club will have a say as to how the club should
be run. At this rate we will have a dictatorship soon. Which I will
Segway into “Who wants to be a Club Officer?” It’s that time again to
nominate members for the E-board positions. Do you want to be King?
Next Meeting:
September’s meeting is
going to start 30 minutes early at 6:30pm so we have time to discuss
all the change proposals. Be there or be Square!
Here is a change index sheet in PDF format to help keep track of how you are voting. It might make it easier on you.

Awards Banquet

John Buck is checking
into Sonny's BBQ on Navy Blvd to see what day we can have our Awards
Banquet in December. It's always been accommodating there with good
food.
There was a motion to move the Apalachicola tournament site in
October to another place due to rising hotel/motel costs which resulted
in a lively discussion but it died on the floor. The better idea was to
try and find a place more affordable to stay but leave the tournament
site alone. Start with saving now for the trip by drinking one less
Starbucks coffee. Then again I own Starbucks stock so cut back
somewhere else.
From the Tournament Director:
The payouts for the annual July Perdido River tournament were handed out. Congrats to those who made in to the Top Four.
Carlito don’t forget to get your W2-G form from Tony for your
winning the Booray pot. We wouldn’t want you getting in trouble with
the 87,000 new agents. I hear some are even taking weapons training
classes.
The draw was conducted with 7 boaters and 5 co-anglers brave enough to
tackle the kids’ crappie tournament. Yep as it turns out at the
Hubbard’s ramp on Tensaw it was jam packed with kids and boats from
everywhere participating in the Kids Crappie Tournament.
Meeting was adjourned 7:49 pm.

Here's a little something for you older guys to enjoy since you aren't hip with the new TopGun Generation.

August’s tournament was held over at the Tensaw River out of Hubbard’s jam
packed full landing. We didn’t see that coming as there was also a
Kids’ Crappie tournament scheduled for the same day. On the water it
looked like Live Oak Landing had a big tournament too as we saw a dozen
bass boats flying north up the river. It was a pretty busy day on the
water. The weatherman called for 60% chance of rain but we never saw
any of it over the top of us. It pretty much stayed way to the south
and soaked the Olive Baptist club on the Perdido River during their
tournament. You should have fished with us Jere and Pete.
At the weigh-in we had 11 out of 12 members with fish. 31 fish
totaling 39.95 pounds caught amongst us. 3 limits caught with no dead
fish weighed. Big fish Honors went to Roger Gomez with a nice 2.72
largemouth caught out of Bill Armstrong’s boat which anchored Bill to
the weigh-in. Yes weigh-ins can be humbling but they are also a way to
show support to those who did well. You’d want us there if you smashed
‘em and won.

1st Place
First
Place is John Russell with a limit of fish weighing 6.29 pounds. He
beat out his Dad and partner for the tournament by 6 ounces. This is
John Russell’s second win this season the other being back in June,
also on the Tensaw River where he smoked us with 11 and a half pounds.
John Russell has placed in the Top Four 5 times this season.
Great Job!
Congratulations John Russell!
2nd Place
Second Place is John Buck, who fished with his son John Russell managed
to also catch a limit of fish. His limit weighed 5.86 pounds. They said
they caught 2 – 3 fish everywhere they went. It is hard to beat this
Father and Son team. This is John’s 4th time in the Second Place spot
as First Place seems to elude him this year. Maybe he’s saving his win
for the fish off.
Great Job!
Congratulations John!
3rd Place
Carlito finishes Third Place this month. He caught 4 fish weighing 4.60
pounds. This is Carlito’s 4th time taking our money not including his
recent Booray Win!
Great Job!
Congratulations Carlito!
4th Place
Rounding out the Top Four is Tony Boyett who also managed a limit of
fish. His 5 fish weighed 4.56 pounds. He had a little less than a 1
pound average but enough to be included in the money this year. I say
that because we have a rule change proposal that may make this spot go
away if passed. Tony has made it into the money slots 4 out of the 6
times he’s “fished” this season. The other two were recorded as being
in the “Also Fished” category.
Since we all know Tina did all the work
while fishing with Tony....we honor her with a picture in our
Newsletter!
Great Job!
Congratulations Tony!

Top Six Hawg Hunters |

The
2022 Season is almost done. We have only 2 tournaments left and both of
those are out of town two-day tournaments. The Race for the coveted
Angler of the Year is still going strong and getting heated up even more.
Lee left the door wide open this time with his dismal showing by
finishing last place this month. He only managed to bring 1 fish
weighing 1.15 pounds to the scales. He couldn’t capitalize on the solo
boater advantage as he didn’t have a partner this month.

For now Lee Brannon is still leading the AOY race but his 14
point lead has dwindled to just 4 points now. It looks like we are
going to have a horse race to the finish.
John Russell is still in Second Place but after winning this month’s tournament he’s gaining ground fast.
Jeff Weaver reduced the gap some to only 6 points now behind John Russell.
Mack Cramer stays in 4th Place and is currently 14 points behind Jeff.
John Buck jumps up and over Dave Bock for 5th Place to sit just 2 points behind 4th place Mack.
Dave Bock tied for 4th place last month, drops down to 6th place this month. However, he's only 1 point behind John.
This Top Six group of Great anglers may just be your year-end
Top Six as they are a whopping 33 points ahead of 7th place Carlito.
The key here is that this group has fished every tournament so far this
season with only John and Mack missing one tournament each. Participation
has a big impact on your standing.
Going back to Lee and John Russell’s battle between 1st and 2nd place….

Could John Russell’s end of the year momentum be enough to
surpass Lee’s beginning of the year momentum? We have two more
tournaments to figure this out. Last year we had a 3 way tie between
Lee, John Buck and John Russell where John Russell fell to third place
due to number of fish caught. Right now Lee has 3 more fish caught than
John Russell. Could Lee 3-peat as Angler of the Year or would John
Russell capture his first ever Angler of the Year title? YOU need to
make plans to attend the next 2 tournaments to see this battle first
hand.

Well
last month Terry Smith was leading by 3 points over Carlito and now it
flips just like Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl in the Pirates of the
Caribbean. Now Carlito is leading the Co-Angler of the Year race over
Terry by 3 points. It looks like we could have a horse race here too
between these two great Co-Anglers. Could Carlito pull off his 3rd win
of the Co-Angler of the Year Title? Or could Terry take back over the
lead and win his first Co-Angler of the Year Title? I can’t wait to
see. We might even get to watch it Live on the “Ocho network”.

Third Place Dave Nason is 31 points behind with only 2 tournaments
left and I believe he will have a hard time catching up unless the top
2 decide not to fish.
