Pensacola Hawg Hunters

2022 Season

Volume: 25

Minutes of the Meeting:

The June meeting of the Hawg Hunters was brought to order at Fournias Brothers restaurant by our President John Buck. We had 14 members present at the meeting. We started at the meeting at 7:00 pm.

Old Business

The minutes from last meeting were read and accepted.

The treasury report was also read and accepted by the membership.

The Booray pot is now over the $1500 mark for a 5.5 pound bass.

The 50/50 was won by Buddy Yates.

Club Hats: John Buck found a way to get the teal colored hats at a very good price. Same hats as we always had so we voted to rescind the White Hat vote and gave John to go ahead to pick up 36 hats. With the embroidery they should cost just under $20.

New Business

June is the first Summer Month so remember we start the 1pm weigh-ins.

Club rule changes are due to the e-board no later than the end of the August Meeting. Please submit them in writing with the Original rule written out, the change to the rule, and justification. The secretary will post them in the August Newsletter for everyone to see. During the September meeting we discuss them and then they get voted on at the October meeting. Remember to be eligible to vote on them you have to have fished/participated in 6 of our monthly club tournaments. Rule changes require a 2/3rds majority to get passed. We currently have 9 members eligible to vote.

From the Tournament Director:

The payouts for the May Millers Ferry tournament were handed out.

The draw was conducted for the 1-day short day Tensaw @ Cliff’s landing tournament. We drew out 6 boaters with 3 co-anglers brave enough to tackle the hot weather.

Meeting was adjourned 7:30 pm.

June’s tournament was a single day tournament held on the Tensaw River @ Cliff’s Landing. Everyone showed up on time and we blasted off right at safe day light which was pretty early this time of the year. Temps started out at around 85 degrees and climbed to 99 degrees come weigh in time and there was only a light breeze on the water.

Some of us got lucky and found fish early, others found them late and one other went we, we, we, all the way home.

As a club with only 9 members fishing we caught 22 fish weighing 35.68 pounds. Two limits were caught by our 1st and 2nd place finishers. Big fish was awarded to Jeff Weaver with a 3.96 lunker which beat out John Russell’s 4.03 pound dead fish after penalties reduced his weight to 3.83 pounds.

Tournament Results:

First Place

1st Place

First Place is John Russell with a 5 fish limit of 11.54 pounds. He said they were crushing his spinnerbaits fished around laydowns. He even caught a Grenel or two that managed to mangle up his spinnerbaits. This is John Russell’s 3rd time this season in the Money slots. He finished 2nd at two other tournaments.

Great Job!

Congratulations John Russell!

Second Place

2nd Place

Mack also had a limit of 5 fish. His weighed in at 7.45 pounds giving Mack his 5th payday this season. He hasn’t won one yet but I’m sure it’s coming soon.

Great Job!

Congratulations Mack!

Third Place

3rd Place

Jeff Weaver managed to find 2 fish big enough to take 3rd place. Combined they weighed 5.29 pounds. As mentioned earlier He took Big Fish Honors with his kicker fish of 3.96 pounds. Jeff has also had 5 paydays this season starting out with his Win in November at Lake Claiborne out of Isaac’s Creek.

Great Job!

Congratulations Jeff!

Fourth Place

4th Place

Lee Brannon rounds out our Top Four this month with 4 fish weighing 4.06 pounds. Lee has had the most paydays this season. This 4th place finish makes his 6th time in the money slots. He is being credited with 4 First Place finishes, 1 Second Place and now this Fourth Place all in this season. Maybe that’s why he’s on top of our AOY leaderboard leading the way.

Great Job!

Congratulations Lee!

AOY Analysis:

Place Top Six Hawg Hunters Points

Okay, 8 tournaments done with only 4 to go. Things should start to heat up from here in the Angler of the Year race. Leading it right now is Lee Brannon who has actually been leading it since December. Last month he Led by 20 points. This month he slipped some and now only has a 15 point lead.

John Russell stays in Second Place but is closing the gap on Lee.

Jeff Weaver also stays put in Third Place but now he’s 11 points back.

Mack Cramer back from Mexico jumps back up and takes over 4th place from Dave Bock who now slips to Fifth Place.

Finishing off our Top Six this month is John Buck who has a 10 point lead over our Co-Angler of the year Terry Smith.

CO-AOY Analysis:

Place CO-Angler of the Year Race Points
Gold

Silver

Bronze

Terry Smith keeps his lead in the Co-Angler of the Year race even though he couldn’t find a keeper fish in the tournament. Participation is the key. He now has an 18 point lead over Second place Carlito.

Our Third Place Co-Angler is Dave Nason who finished 6th in the tournament this month. He is 17 points back.

Hero to Zero Nominee:

This month Terry Smith finds himself in the Hero to Zero Category. Terry had a great tournament last month winning the Miller’s Ferry Tournament with 12.63 pounds. He also caught big fish of the year so far with a 4.84 pound Hawg. This month he only managed to catch a couple of Jefferies and couldn’t buy a 12 inch fish. Maybe it was because he was fishing with Jeffrey.
