Pensacola Hawg Hunters

2022 Season

Volume: 25

Minutes of the Meeting:

The November meeting of the Hawg Hunters was brought to order at Fournias Brothers restaurant by our Tournament Director John Russell Buck. Our President John Buck went on his annual Bambi trip up North. Rumor has it he found a nice one to bring home. We can’t wait to hear all about it!

So for the start of the new fishing season we had 17 members present with 1 guest. Bonnie Colluci the better half to our member George Colluci. Official start time was 7:00 pm.

Old Business

We started off the meeting with Jeff shopping for clothes at a dry cleaner. Great job Jeff.

The minutes from last meeting were read and accepted. The treasury report was missing as the Treasurer skipped the country on a cruise. Good thing it was also the start of the season where as our cash register drawer is empty anyway.

The Booray money is still there. Buddy Yates collected $24 more from each of the participating members of which there are 14 now. So for each month moving forward if no one catches the Booray fish $28 will be added to the pot which now stands at $1,326. Major change is because no one was able to catch a 6 pound fish during the last 12 months according to the rules Buddy laid out in the beginning we now drop the weight to 5.5 pounds. So in layman’s terms you now only have to catch a 5.5 pound bass to win the Booray money. Sharpen up them hooks boys!

The 50/50 was won by Dave Nason.

The Annual Awards Banquet is set for Friday night December 17th. We will be going back to Sonny’s Barbeque down on Navy Blvd and promises to be a great night to honor our Top Six. Are you one of them? It’s also a good night to bring your spouse for a fantastic meal and show our appreciation to them. We did a head count and it looks like we have 26 people making the commitment to come show their support for a great event. We estimate about $18 per person. If you weren’t counted at the meeting be sure to let John Buck know your intentions if you’d like to join us.

New Business

Your newly elected 2022 E-board met earlier in the month and based on your advice put together a great schedule for the coming Fishing Season. From the Tournament Director:

Payouts for the October Lake Mitchell Tournament were handed out. Great job to all those receiving checks. Funny how we can’t pay with a check….but we get a check. Well most of you…I didn’t so I ratted you out to the new 87,000 members of the IRS.

The draw was conducted for the 1st tournament of the 2022 season. We start our season with only 7 boats carrying the Top Three Co-Anglers for Lake Claiborne.

Meeting was adjourned 7:38 pm.

November’s tournament was held over in Alabama at Lake Clairborne off the Alabama River System. The majority of us went over Thursday/Friday morning to pre-fish since it’s a 100 mile drive. We had a cold front blow through Thursday so of course it was Tournament weekend for us. Friday had a pretty good north wind blowing down the river making it a little chilly. The skies were clear. Saturday morning we started out in the lower 50’s with fog rolling on the main river. Good thing we blasted off up in Isaac Creek otherwise we might have had to wait for the fog to blow over before the Tournament director felt it was safe. At least the wind laid down for the day and the temps did climb to the lower 70’s by the weigh-in. Tough fishing day but everyone fishing knew just by showing up to the tournament we’d be in the Top Ten to start out the Season. As a matter of fact we all started out Tied for First Place at blast off. It could only go downhill from there for everyone but one.

At the end of the day we caught 27 fish weighing 42.25 pounds with only 2 limits caught. Big fish was a pair of 3.03 pounders caught by Mack Cramer and Dave Bock. Mine hit a chatter-bait on the main river whereas Mack’s I believe was on a worm.

First Place

1st Place

The only one to survive and stay in First Place for the whole day was Jeff Weaver. He found a limit of fish weighing 7.49 pounds. Jeff hasn’t won a tournament for some time now as his last win was 17 tournaments ago where he won at Tensaw in June of 2020. Could be the start of something!

Great Job!

Congratulations Jeff!

Second Place

2nd Place

Dave had a real lucky day. He managed to bring 3 fish to the scales that weighed 7.44 pounds just .05 pounds or .8 of an ounce behind Jeff. Dave’s first fish caught himself as his fishing line was hanging over a small tree branch and hit the worm while he was trying to shake the line off the branch. His second fish a Largemouth tried to snatch up his worm and run away with it in the middle of a big laydown back in a small lake off the main river. The hook set was really just trying to keep from losing the rod. His third fish that turned out tied with the Big Fish of the tournament late in the afternoon also hooked himself. This time on a chatter-bait he was using after getting bored fishing a worm most of the day. What do they say? Better to be Lucky than just good? And all this after pre-fishing all day Friday and not catching a thing.

Great Job!

Congratulations Dave!

Third Place

3rd Place

Lee #2 Ferrell found a limit of fish too like Jeff just 1.6 ounces behind Dave. His limit weighed in at 7.34 pounds. This is Lee’s second time placing Third since joining the club last year.

Great Job!

Congratulations Lee!

Fourth Place

4th Place

Fourth went to Mack with only 2 fish. His 3.03 pound Big Fish of the tournament and the other totaling 4.32 pounds. Mack has been no stranger to the Top Four over the years. Just last year he placed in the Top Four 3 times and 65 times out of 152 tournaments fished since 2006.

Great Job!

Congratulations Mack!

AOY Analysis:

Place Top Six Hawg Hunters Points

Congrats again to Last Year’s Angler of the Year Winner Lee Brannon! It was a close race and this year I predict the same. Every point counts so make sure you participate and wear your shirt! If you need one talk to Mack.

Looking at the table above we see Jeff Weaver starting us out this season ahead by one point. Lee Ferrell and Mack tied for 3rd because of a Shirt & Hat. Returning newcomer Bill Armstrong sitting in Fifth with Lee Brannon starting out the season in Sixth.

CO-AOY Analysis:

Place CO-Angler of the Year Race Points
Gold

Silver

Bronze

Okay…all you have to do is fish and you will find yourself in the Top Three Co-anglers category. Now catching a fish really helps move you ahead. In First Place Gold Position we have Randy Cole who managed to catch 2 fish weighing 2.81 pounds. In Second Place Silver we have Carlito who squeaked out a fish weighing 0.84 pounds. And for braving the tough fishing conditions in Third Place using his Tournament points for showing up is Terry Smith. Terry caught all his fish Friday on pre-fish day.
