~ Tensaw River ~

Cliff's Landing on the Tensaw River was the site for our November tournament. We had 21 fishermen participating in the event. The morning held cold temps but warmed into the low 60's by the afternoon. Thick fog had us bound in for a while, and you really had to be careful while riding. Most guys just idled toward their fishing holes until they broke out of it. We had an outgoing tide all day. The water level was about normal, and the clarity ranged from muddy to very clear depending on where you fished.
The clearest water was found in the backs of creeks and large basins.

Walter McCartney was my partner for this trip. We agreed on a plan and stuck with it. The only problem was that it never really started working! We caught several small fish each but could only manage 3 keepers between the two of us. We fished the Dominic Creek area and had really pretty water. Everything looked right, but the fish just didn't cooperate. We tried a variety of baits but only got bites on plastic worms and lizzards. I wound up the day with two keepers and Walter had one.
Although the fishing was slow we had great time swapping tales and lies!

At the weigh in several guys had limits. They had all gone south and fished the grass. As usual junebug was the color of choice. Dave Dyess brought 5 nice fish to the scales and claimed 1st place with 7.15 lbs. Jere Jailette had 5 fish which weighed 6.55 lbs. to take 2nd place. In 3rd place with limit also was Mac Cramer. His weight was 6.35lbs. This year we have started to pay the top four places, and with his first ever "big" finish was Jim Bailey Sr. with 4 keepers weighing 5.50 lbs. Jim also had the lunker for the day at 2.60 lbs. Look out guys! He's on a roll!! Congratulations to all who weighed in fish.
Also remember that this year anyone who wieghs in a keeper will receive at least a point for their efforts regardless of the number of fishermen who weigh in fish.

Lee Brannon still doing everything within his power to keep the "SLAMMER" for the 3rd straight year. This month he took Neil "Blinky" Springstead up Red Creek with a bad cranking battery.
This resulted in their being late for the weigh in because they couldn't crank the big motor.
The REALLY bad part is that they both had limits of fish and would have probably taken 2nd and 3rd places. No watches, no cell phone, sand bars, bad batteries……guys stay tuned for next month's "Adventures with Lee". One can only wonder who's going to be the lucky guy next month!

With the cold weather approaching, now is the time to make sure that your batteries are in ship shape. As Mac put it at the last meeting, be sure to check the water levels in conventional batteries, and if you have a maintenance free battery, use the battery meter on your depth finder or Lowrance while you are cranking the big motor to see if you are getting the proper amps and voltage. It is also wise to keep an extra set of dry clothes in the storage compartment. A mishap and you're all wet, and a long way from the landing on a cold day, can make for a dangerous situation.

Our December tournament is on the 21st. It will be held on the Tensaw River and will again be out of Cliff's Landing.

‘Til next time.
