PENSACOLA HAWG HUNTERS
TOURNAMENT REPORT
DECEMBER 17, 2005

Swamphouse Landing on the Escambia River was the site for our December tournament..
The morning was cold and rainy with rain predicted for most of the day, in other words just about as miserable
a day to be fishing as you can
imagine.

Mack Cramer and I drew out as partners. We both had ideas about fishing up river above Quintette but decided to opt for the lower regions due to the heavy rains we received Wednesday and Thursday.
As it turns out the water was really
pretty good up there and the best stringers came from that area.
Anyway, Mack
and I ran over to the area near Jim’s fish camp and fished the Simpson and Little White for the day. We found the water to be low and really a good color. Mack immediately caught a keeper on a Paca C raw and I followed suit with a short one. He managed to get four keepers and I only managed two but we had a great time fishing together. Mack and I have been fishing with the Hawg Hunters for many, many years, and we haven’t fished together for about 6 or 7 years. We had a great time joking and remembering stories from the past.
We
each caught a number of fish but just couldn’t get the keepers we were after.
We basically fished the bends and sawgrass edges. With the good company the day went by fairly quickly and before long we were headed to the launch.

At the weigh in there were many fish. Several boats found them and caught good numbers but not much size. Tenth place finish had a limit. That says a lot for our group and not to mention on the Escambia River in December on a bad weather day. Most of the fish were caught on worms, jigs, spinner baits, and
plastic craws. There were multiple limits brought in from both upriver and downriver.
As one would expect the delta fish were small and the upriver fish
were the larger ones.

Making his mark (pun intended) was new member Mark Churchwell with a 5 fish limit weighing 6.15 lbs taking 4th place. The 3rd spot went to Frank Kelly who found a limit weighing 6.40lbs.
Tony Boyette found the lunker, a 3.20 lb LM
and 3 other fish to go with it for 2nd place totaling 7.25lbs.
The winner was
Sanbar Lee Brannon, who is also this year’s tournament director.
Lee found a
limit weighing 7.70 lbs. Way to go fellas and all who fished on this rough weather day.
Even though the fish were small in size, most folks were able to
catch numbers making for an active day on the Escambia system.

Our next tournament will be in the Tensaw delta do make plans to participate. As shown this month this is the time of the year that you can catch numbers in the delta regions.
As the year draws to an end, I want to thank Mr. Hook 1,
Jim Bailey for hosting the Hawg Hunters website and for allowing me to ramble about the fishing trips.

‘Til next time….Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year and don't forget....

Keep
your hooks sharp!
